Title: DB Shoulder Presses: To the Front or Down the Middle?
Post by: The_Hammer on February 03, 2008, 11:02:04 PM
When you do shoulder presses with dumbbells are you suppose to lower them to the front or to the sides of your head.

say what ?.....ok. Sorry. The idea of db shoulder presses is that your arms would follow their natural path or range...don't analize it...just do it.

Okay for instance Charles Glass says that you should keep your elbows in front to stress the front delt, but I just saw some video on here where Luke Wood keeps his elbows in line with his ear.

It depends on what you are targeting … having the seat set at 70 degrees and lowering the Db to get aligned with your ears is a good method … just make sure you don’t lock your arms at the top and don’t go all the way … cause after a certain range of motion (varies from one to another) the stress on the shoulder fades and heads to your neck … and depending on your elbow position you can manipulate angles of the exercise

what you mean is that if you use a heavy enough weight your only hope is to put it through the path of least resistance.  That's great if you're a powerlifter but as BBers our goal is maximal muscle stimulation not most weight moved.

The best way to hit the shoulders is over head flys lowered as close to horizontal as possible (or inverted iron cross press-ups on the rings if your strong enough).
