Title: Weird pain
Post by: Butterbean on February 08, 2008, 12:25:02 PM
I posted this on the Injury board but thought I'd post it here too.

My friend has had a constant pain above her left hip (just above the hip in the front) for about a week now.  She said that it's always there and is worse while walking.  She also said it's worse when she feels like she needs to urinate and also while urinating.

Apparently there was no external trauma that caused this.

Any ideas would be appreciated   :)

bladder or kidney infection?  Or stones, gall/kidney?

How old is she?  After the age of 40 or 45, you get mad pains (with no explanations) all over the place.  You even get cramp in the calve whilst waking up.

so I call them slight aches.

I have huge chest pains lately.  I call that stress, but I reckon I ought to visit the doc shortly.

~flower~?  although I hate to go off topic, I'm on this this thread now.  Thanks so much for funny pic of me, I managed to download it.

I get the most strange eye tics.  They don't hurt, but they make everything look weirdly painful.

STella, if your friend is still pre-menopausal, it might be the the approach of the menopause?

I read someplace that 70% of women over 40 have or will have incontinence problems, so that's extremely painful to have to cope with...  ergo I second flowers kidney or liver theory.

either that or her female interior bits are saying byebye.

Linda, it is possible that she's pre-menopausal...she's mentioned that before and that her periods are getting much heavier than usual one month and then really light the next.  This pain is new to her though.

I will also do a search on the infections/stones possibilities thanks Flowey.

A doctor visit is in order though. They can tell if something is inflamed and do other tests.  When she says it hurts to pee is it her side hurts or it burns?  Since it gets worse with a full bladder I would think urinary infection or something. They can culture her pee and find out!  Actually don't they sell those home tests now where you can find out if you have a yeast infection or something more serious?  I'd still go to the doctor no matter what it says.

Her side hurts when she pees....the pee doesn't burn.

I told her to call the doc today she said she wanted to wait till Monday ::)  I'll call her a little later and yell at her if she didn't call him.

Definitely should go to the doctor...sounds like kidneys if her side hurts.
I don't know much about STDs lol, but a doctor's visit is in order for sure.

Hope she feels better!!

You might also advise her to find a female doc.

The most common herpes viruses are herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). Usually HSV-1 causes cold sores or fever blisters on or around the lips and HSV-2 affects areas below the waist, causing genital herpes. But both HSV-1 and HSV-2 viruses can cause herpes outbreaks in either area. Other common herpes infections include chicken pox and shingles which are caused by the herpes zoster virus.

Chlamydia symptoms and signs
Symptoms usually appear between 1 and 3 weeks after exposure but may not emerge until much later. Chlamydia is known as the ‘silent’ disease as in many people it produces no symptoms. It is estimated that 70-75% of women infected with chlamydia are asymptomatic (have no symptoms) and a significant proportion of men also have no symptoms. Those who do have symptoms may experience:

Womena minor increase in vaginal discharge caused by an inflamed cervix. cystitis (an inflammation of the lining of the bladder). the need to urinate more frequently, or pain whilst passing urine. pain during sexual intercourse or bleeding after sex. mild lower abdominal pains. irregular menstrual bleeding. a painful swelling and irritation in the eyes (if they become infected). MenMen are more likely to notice symptoms than women, though they too may be asymptomatic. a white/cloudy and watery discharge from the penis that may stain underwear. a burning sensation and/or pain when passing urine. a painful swelling and irritation in the eyes (if they become infected). In both men and women a chlamydia infection in the rectum will rarely cause symptoms.

How is chlamydia passed on?
Chlamydia can be transmitted:

by having unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who is infected.
from a mother to her baby during vaginal childbirth.
by transferring the infection on fingers from the genitals to the eyes, although it is rare for this to happen.

If she feels pain while urinating it could be a urinary tract infection. She should go to the doctor asap. Get antibiotics if that's what indeed it is.

Cool, whatever you say STella, but when someone is attacking femaleland, I react.  Glad you like it, but I don't...

Was this supposed to be a funny thread?  Whoops, sorry, I missed the plot.

etc.

I very much doubt it's a urinary tract thing, her hips wouldn't hurt.
If it's a hormonal thing, it's far from funny.
