Title: Best Protein
Post by: RancherRanger on February 12, 2008, 12:42:43 PM
I haven't ordered supplements in around a year.  I was using Optimum Nutritions protein, cookies n creme flavored.  Most important is taste, followed by grams of protein, then cost.  Any suggestions?

Optimum Proteins and AST's VP2 are the only ones I buy. Great tasting and they mix well.

protein is protein to me.   they all taste alright..never tasted one that was fantastic, never tasted one that was shitty.

the best protien out there is pro-complex. its the absolute shit.   but its expensive.

i am just going to start making my own proteins from trueprotein.com.   i am thinking....50 % eaa's, 10% whey isolate, 10% egg white protein, 10% caseine, 10% leucine, 10% instantized bcaa's. + the vitamins and aminogen.    that would be perfect for before, during, after training.

Seems awful expensive to be taking those three times.

My during workout formula is the following: (put about 15 grams in my water bottle)
30% EAA's
30% BCAA's
40% Taurine

good mix , I would lower % of taurine and add more BCAA

I'm cheap that's why it's like that.  ;)

Seriously though. Before trueprotein had the EAA's I used to do 50/50 (BCAA's & Taurine).

i dont like those mixes much, guys. too high in bcaa %.... you are going to end up with a deficiency/surplus of amino acids in the body...      consuming bcaa's alone is not consuming a whole protein...in order for protein synthesis to occur you need all the essential amino acids available.    thats why i prefer to have a high 5of eaa's, then a little bit of bcaa and leucine just for stimulating synthesis of th eaa's and the whey mix i got going....

i got all this info/idea's from the patrick arnold/dave palumbo threads on MD...    they are interesting, you should give them a read

Good point(s) but my mix is only for during my workout(s). It's not something I'd take as a shake throughout the day. If I'm going to drink a protein shake I'll just drink some whey or the gemma protein. If I want the digestion slowed down I'll add some fat &/or fiber.

i dont have any blended/slow release powders...so what ive been doing lately is throwing two scoops whey into a bowl, couple tablespoons cinnamon, and warming up two tablespoons all natty peanut butter...and making it into a pudding.
