no, twice a week won't hurt but fair complected people need to be careful because dermatologists say that when you burn the chances for those problems increases drastically, use a very weak bed and don't use it for long.
-
OK, thanks for the advice!
-
Be very aware of the intensity of the bed - or you're grilled.
-
yes :P

I first tanned in a tann "stand-up" bed in 1978. I was 15 and we had to drive to a place 40 miles away in Hartford, CT.
The tubes had no real UV ray protection...we got burned...and turned lobster red several days later. Shortly after that, a place called "Toatl Tan" uponed up in North Haven, CT...it is still opened today. For the longest time, they were the only game in tyown. They had the lay-down beds and much hi-tech that was around at the time.
I've tanned at least 600 hours for a 60 contest career.
My skin is not the best, but did not really suffer any significant damage from the beds.
There is actually some good to say about the healing effects of heliotherapy

The dangerous, skin cancer-causing rays from a tanning booth are more pronounced in tanning beds compared to natural sunlight. Someone using them on the regular will only find out decades later that it was a mistake. Don't use em, find another way. Experiment with different tans in bottles even if it doesn't look as good.

I somewhat I agree. A prominent plastic surgery friend is ambivalent towards them ...use them sparingly and only if/when necessary.
I have had one in my house fopr years and its like working in a candy store: with time, the allure wears off and the thing ends up sitting there for months at a time, unused, with me stubbing my toe on it in the dark

Probably the models that allow you to an adequate tan in quicker times (Like the "Stingbee" model...$25,000)...would be safer and less hard on the skin.
They are more costly to use than the standard $5, 20 minute beds, though.

Yes it can. Laying in a tanning bed is so relaxing to me.

I try to only tan around a show
what about spray-tan ?
does it last a couple of days ? seems like a better alternative, they give you a nice color nowadays
-
I think if you use it a few times in the winter, or once in a while if you are competing.... I tdo not think that you will gat that much more risk of skin cancer.. No more than mowing the lawn outside with your shirt off....
I haven't used one since I competed last, but since I used to get up at 4:45 to go tan THEN work out, I used to like it.
The warmth and the humming of tha machine.
Best 30 minute nap ever.
