BAHRAIN's top bodybuilder Tareq Al Farasani was stripped of his under-90kg gold medal which he won at the 61st World Championship held at Jeju Halla Stadium in South Korea, the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) announced yesterday.
An official from the BOC said the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness also banned Al Farasani for two years after failing to pass a sample 'B' test held in South Korea recently.
The test revealed that Al Farasani was taking steroids during the championship but the Bahraini bodybuilder denied the accusation.
"I travelled to South Korea and was confident that I will pass this test but something went wrong and I am so disappointed now," said Al Farasani.
"I would never do something like that. This is the first time that I get caught and it's very much possible that someone included some steroids in my supplements," he said.
"The result means that I will miss the next World Championship that will be held here in November," added Al Farasani.
Rights
Bahrain won the rights to host the next prestigious event following a tough battle with other candidates, Iran and Brazil.
Al Farasani was one of two Bahrainis who took gold medals at the event besides Mohammed Sabah who came on top in the under-80kg category.
The two winners were among seven Bahrainis in the fray.
The other Bahraini bodybuilders were Abbas Makki, Bader Sultan, Abdulla Salman who all came sixth in the under-60kg, under-65kg, under-70kg divisions, respectively, besides Nooh Hassan who was eighth in the above 90kg.

Yes how dare they? These athletes toil for hours in the gym and use quality suppliments from reputable manufacturers like Muscletech. ;D
These men and women step on stage with dignity and honor after several gruelling weeks of dieting (and "suppliments" ;) ) To accuse them of using banned substances....well its just wrong. :'(

I hear that this time only two in each weight class were randomly chosen for drug tests:
Disqualified from the 2007 IFBB World Amateur Championships:
Super-heavy: Mathias Botthof (had been 3rd), Marius Dohne (had been 6th)
Heavy: Arthur Baron (had been 5th), William Ortuno (had been 6th)
Light-heavy: Tariq Jaafar Al Farsani (had been 1st), Anwar El Sayed (had been 2nd)
Middle: Edson Serafin (had been 3rd)
So if it is true that only two in each class were tested, then 7 out of 8 in the top weight classes failed.
Why no one in the lower weight classes failed is a mystery. No reason to doubt they weren't just as doped up.
In 2006, eight failed the drug tests. In 2005, four failed. In 2004, two failed. In 2003, thirteen failed.
