Title: ARMZ Appreciation Thread
Post by: Pete Dimano on February 13, 2008, 07:23:04 AM
I'm a bodybuilder in my late 30s, trying to relive my youth, now throwing myself into debt.

Do you guys think I made the right choice?

Going into debt to purchase something like a car is never a wise choice.

That philosophy is a good way for a middle-class person to at the very least ensure they'll never be wealthy, with a high likelihood they could end up destitute.

Bad choice imo, Vettes are too stereotypical, and that color is terrible. Should of went with a Range Rover, any BMW, Mercedes, would have been a way better choice. Not to mention a Vette parked at a Power House gym is just way too common ;D Also a nice Harley would have been a good alternative.

Good point.  Every guy going through a midlife crisis buys a vette!  Go get yourself something with some character like a 69' charger or a 67' chevelle, and for god's fucking sake get a new liscense plate.  I guarantee EVERYONE who sees you driving that thing will be making fun of you for that plate.  All you're doing is adding to the meathead/insecurity/compensation stereotype.  ARMZZZZZZZZ.  HOW FUCKING GAY CAN YOU BE??  Oh, and mine are 21" so no, i am not jealous

Let me guess...you pull into the parking lot of PowerHouse blasting some type of Metal (probably from the 80's), then you get out of the car carrying your gym bag in one hand and a gallon of water in the other, you probably are wearing some type of sunglasses (maybe Oakleys), you proceed to walk into the gym all the while keeping your sunglasses on until you hit the locker room.

Let me guess after you complete your workout you proceed to the parking lot, start up your car with the music turned up not too high but high enough to hear, you stand around by your car and talk to fellow gym buddies as you all drink your protein shakes for a good 20-30 minutes.

The one thing a personalized license plate on a Corvette does, is increase the chance that a douchebag drives it.
Average Corvette: 74% a douchebag drives it
Personalized Plate Corvette: 92% a douchebag drives it
Yellow Corvette: Add another 6% to the above numbers

Thanks for playing. ;)

*These numbers are taken from a poll of all Corvette owners.  Usually, bad asses in their own mind, douchebags to everyone else. ;D

I'd opt for a Porshe.

Especially if you live in Cali and are saving up to buy a house.  Who wants a 500$ car payment which could be going toward your $700k 1500 square foot condo in the Marina =)

Someone show me how to place images.

My cars:

2007 Range Rover Sport S/C
2007 Benz CLS55
2007 Lexus GS430-Work Car
Comming this month: Either a M5 or a pre-owned CL65.

Call me a liar all you want. A vette I dont dig vets. Something about them. I think its the whole dime a dozen thing. Anyone that can get financed for 30k can drive one. Or you can get a new one for 50k. Now a Z06 will get you some respect but in the Vette community of course.
It seems like everyone these days has a car with over 500+hp. Personally I like Mercedes over anything. AMG Motors crank like no tomorrow and I have not had any bad luck. It all depends if you like cars. Some people are car freaks like myself. My range rover my wife drives. I could have bought her a Tahoe or a X5 or a Escalade but it came down to the Rover or a Cayanne. Call me selfish but I didnt to come out of pocket over 100k for a child transporter.

I test-drove an M5 a while back. The problem with the M5 is it's too much car to drive in city traffic without being a real pain-in-the-ass.  On the track or the autobahn, I sure it's bitchin', but for real life a 550i is a better choice.

Problem with the 7's is they're too big. Even with the BMW suspension, you sometimes feel like you're driving a boat.  I think the 550 is a good compromise between luxary and sportiness.

Still a great car man.  And BMW's are notorious for having little space in the 3's and 5's.  Not with the 7 series though. Ton's of room.

You live in N. Amercia?

That was when I first got that particular car.  No plates or tags or stickers in my name there, and both pics were taken at locations that have nothing to do with me... one was at a strip-mall parking lot, and the other was at a hotel.  I wish Alex luck in trying, though.

All those are nice cars, but again, everyone and their mom has one especially C-classes, and 3 series. They are a dime a dozen and anyone that's from LA would attest to that they are like civics. Everywhere. I can see why with the lease rates from BMW and MB anyone can lease one at great prices. Personally I would have went with the upcoming E92 M3 and C63 AMG if finances would allow. But if not a nice Audi would do since they haven't been played out yet.

About the Range Rover, same thing, basically the wealthier mans' escalade. Overly played out in hip/hop rap videos, celebrities, soccer moms, etc.. ::) However, still a nice truck though. I would perfer the X5 4.8, or Cayenne turbo, or even ML63. Much more rarer.

M5 very nice choice, that new 7 speed is very smooth....back to the child transporter, a range rover is more expensive then all those other suvs

But my point is that my fucking wife wouldnt settle for a Tahoe,Denali or Escalade. You know. But when you get all into the Suburban Lifestyle she had to have a Range Rover so all the other moms could look and point. What ever I am 27 we are a fairly young couple. I tell myself I will eventually grow out of owning expensive cars but who knows.

My Infiniti G37S will smoke the cayman.

Cmon bro a G37 sure it could smoke a Cayman S but thats your little pride you have every time you see a Cayman. 99% of the rest of the population looks at the Cayman and says "Wow thats the new Cayman. Looks Nice I would love to own one some day"
Everyone else looks at a G37 and says "Fucking Infiniti cant seem come come out with a new body for their G series car so they alter the front and rear and call it a G37.....go figure".

Dont compare a Nissan to a Porsche. I personally dont like Porsche but I am smart enough not to dare compare the 2.

On a side note, american culture is too fascinated with rap/hip hop culture. You can tell in taste of cars, bling bling, escalades, range rovers, Chrysler 300c's, Hummer H2's, etc... Not necessarily you, but I'm just pointing some things out. ;)

Well, you do know that european car manufacturers tend to be doing this for decades. Bimmers, MB's, and definitely Porsche???? They tend to be conservative letting the cars evolve rather then to revolutionize them. I actually perfer this then to completely redesign the car. Vettes are another example.

Funny thing is, if you showed a Porsche to the general non car fanatic they wouldn't even notice the difference. Try comparing the previous gen 996 911 and the new 997 911. The changes are so subtle aside from a few things, nothing major.

You do have a solid points. The battle between BMW and Merc is good for the consumer. I have owned a few BMW's in the past the most recent was a 760LI. It was a nice car but a boat to drive. I test drove a new 750LI and a M5 over the weekend.  I am turning in my Lexus (my lease is up) and am looking for something that can sit 5 and I can take my wife and kids in.

I was at a crossing looking at Suv's a few weeks back. First we went and looked at the Escalades then the Cayenne Turbo (which is by far the fastest SUV I have ever driven 120k keep in mind). We finnally settled on a rover. It was my wifes call. We settled for the Rover Sport S/C. Nice car keep in mind. I love cars...bottom line. I dont care I wont let my wife drive a van.
I make pretty ok money and we can afford it so what. I write most of the payments off anyways.
I am looking at a CL65 with a few miles on it. Now that is a nice car!!!!!

Cool, good choice in the CL65. Those cars depreciate so much that it isn't necessary to buy new. Go for the new body style. Like I said, personally I would have gone with the Cayenne, but to each thier own.

Check this out the 05/06 CL65 are going for 50-60k at the auction right now with under 20k miles. I am most likely going to buy a pre-owned CL and hook it up with a ECU/TCU upgrade (700hp). And drive it on the weekends and fuck around in it. They are selling on lots anywhere from 70-90k. I could flip it and make a few bucks while I am at it.

Quite true, except his G37S can't beat a Cayman on the track

Parker, maybe not stock because the Cayman is 600 lbs lighter, although it would still be even, but with mods like my fujita dual air intakes i'd take the cayman on the street or track.

The CL65 are an awesome car. Although i don't really like the styling of the new model. My grandfather bought a 06 S600L about 3 months ago. Awesome car, doesnt have the thrust a CL65 would but still, he's 85, so its plenty fast for him ;D

Fake = A bunch of users on this site

If you have the luxury rides, and a nice crib...then just post a pic w/sunglasses or something but you have to be included in it.  Dont need to tell what city you are in.
Remember everyone has a Harvard degree on the Yahoo boards.  Dont fall into that circle on GetDumb.

Anyway...I've got a decent 3 bedroom home in Park Hill for the guys in CO.  They know the area.  I own an Accord EX.  It gets good gas mileage and I'm too tight for another car note. Plus grad school is a b###t.

Actually the Hyabusa and theZX14 are similiar in performance not straight out race bikes, but big and heavy with plenty of power,Unfortunately for us the japenese restricted the top speed of these bikes at 299km about 190 mile per hour.
The first Hyabusa was not restricted in 99 and i got it to 330km 200mph on a straight piece of road some time back.
I remember when i was 19 and my second bike was a RGV250 two stroke with a vicious powerband, and clocked a quartermile in 12.5 seconds at a local dragstrip. The ZX14 and Hyabusa will do the quartermile in the high 9s.
I loved dragging V8s on my RGV250 and after smashing there egos i would point to the decal 250.
If your a car nut test ride a modern sportsbike and be amazed by the power of a stock motorcycle.

Here's the deal with internet claims regarding wealth:

Wealthy people do, in fact, have internet access believe it or not, and are no less likely than anyone else to post on message boards.

That said, the type of wealth often claimed by internet posters is only seen in 1% or less or the overall population.  In other words, if everyone were telling the truth, only 1 out of every 100 posters would be an "internet millionaire".

Since 40-50% of all posters claim to be "rich", it's a statistical certainty that most of them are lying.  Now that doesn't mean everyone is, and it also a statistical certainty that there will be a small handful of people who are telling the truth, but most of them aren't.

Given that, I'm sure you can understand why people would be skeptical.

This thread is almost sad.  People bragging about very superficial stuff...

You can have a lot of money, a great house, a hot wife, and everything else, but still NOT BE HAPPY.

Success isn't measured by what you HAVE, its measured by your happiness with life.  Some millionaires commit suicide when it seems like to everyone else "they have it all"

btw, xfactor, i remember seeing that front pic of you a long time ago.  i was wondering if you havent any recent pics?  you are looking large and just want to see the progress.

Take comfort in the fact that I gloat in the fact that that when I leave the office, I leave in a car you will never own, and arrive at a home you could also never own, Arriving to a beautiful woman that you only can dream about, and travel to places you'll never have the means to.

I wish you good luck in all future endeavours Lifter4life.  Keep your head up, you can turn it around buddy.  And with that I leave you riding off in the sunset owned and bewildered.

LOL @ "owned and bewildered."   ;D

Actually, I'm pretty impressed with the guy. He's obviously made a good living for himself and has some nice toys to show for it. You seem bitter that his life turned out better than yours.

Of course, you won't have any problem proving us wrong and posting pics of your mansion, $200k cars and Omega watches, will you?

ALL CAPS posters are usually not very intelligent or very educated.  These types of people generally do not have high incomes.

Food for thought.

not trying to flame or anything, just serious interest.

Director for a software company.  The applications we  developed circle around MES and ERP in manufacturing type environments.  Customer base consists of 5 of the top 6 automotive OEM's in the world in addition to the top three life sciences companies in the world.

I started with an MBA, a shit load of debt, and no money worked my way up through the sales and maketing chanels of the company.

LETS SEE THOSE PICS OF YOUR "CRIB" DOUCHBAG, AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT WHY DONT YOU TAKE A FEW PICS OF YOUR NO TITS NO ASS SLOPPY GIRL YOUR SO PROUD OF AND POST EM UP. MY GUESS IS THAT SHE FOUND YOU AT THE LOCAL HOE HOLE/ BAR AND GOT A LOOK AT YOUR ROLEX WHICH YOU ARE NOW IN DEBT FOR AND HAS BEEN SUCKING YOU WALLET DRY EVER SINCE. AND IF YOU ARE GOING TO SHOW OFF YOUR PORSCHE MAKE SURE ITS THE NOT THE CAYMAN. DO I WANT A BMW 760 OR AN 325? YOU CHOOSE THE 325 OF PORSCHE. NOW GO TO WORK SO YOUR BITCH DOES NOT DIVORCE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE STIFLING HER LIFESTYLE BOTTOMBITCH.

Whats wrong with you man? Big fucking deal the cars we have aint shit. I know people who have Lambo's Bentleys Ferrari's and 20 million dollar homes. It aint shit man!!! Money isnt shit when you know how to make it. I get looks from sorry ass people who cant seem to figure out how to make money. When you are successful and eventually make it you have to just put all those haters away.
Hating on people who are making money isnt going to get you any richer or into a better house. Neither is the approach "fuck money I am happy with my Civic and 3 bedroom house"
Bro money doesnt make people happy but it makes life a whole lot easier. Why should I post up pictures of the cars I own or my "businesse's" or my "house's/homes"????
To make you happy or so you can sit there and say how much our homes and our cars suck?? Or how you can say that your girlfriend is better or how are wives are ugly???
This board is fucking lame I go on here for a laugh.
Talk to me about cars, homes and the finer things in life and I will chime in. But to sit here and talk about Nasser and other lame ass rats (99% of every IFBB pro) fuck that......Have fun. I will go back to the MB or BMW Board and sit there and discuss some mods I am going to put on my cars. Where the people on these boards actually own the cars and dont sit there and talk shit....why???

Because the people who own these cars are not little kids and actually have money any are successful!!!! The people on this board cant handle success!! They dont know what it is and just talk shit.

Good post.  I often put down certain cars that are "status symbols" for that reason alone.  I never see someone with a Porsche or a Ferarri and say, "What an asshole."  I find guys with Hummers/Escalades are class A douchebags.  This if from extensive research in the field.
To rank on someone's girl or house is utterly pointless.  It is funny to watch people completely meltdown because they can't handle someone else's success.

While it's not an expensive vehicle, it can keep up with many exotics on a straight road ;)  Have spent more on performance work than the car would even sell for.  It's currently getting rebuilt to a 383 stroker, which puts out about 500 horses.

It's not really about what Goatboy, Only and X have, it's about them getting ragged for working hard.  They've done well for themselves.

I remember Shawn dropping s##t on Only because of his bbing show, and look what happen to the CO Pro Show after just two years.  It was nice but didnt stand the test of time, and he found out just how hard it is to keep a show going year after year.  It probably would have been around longer if he had a kissing booth with Dina Al Sabah and some of the other figure girls.

It's funny how you guys argue over material things.  I think I have very well in my life.  I lived very good during my healthy years.  I was lucky enough to be able to travel a lot and most of the time getting it paid for and making money doing it.  I have had nice cars, a shitload of money and a nice place to live.  I have met many many people I never thought I would ever meet.  I was invited to parties and functions I had no business going to but the fancy people wanted me there.

Here goes the epic name-dropping------------I played golf with Dr. J (even a real basketball game), played tennis against Bjorn Borg, played baseball with Bert Blyeven, racquetball with Eric Dickerson, wrestled with Muhammad Ali, and a whole lot more.  But, you know what the thing that I like even more was the hundreds and hundreds of kids I help with the Special Olympics, or the tens of thousands of dollars I have raised for different charities or the kids I have spoke to and having them come up to me years later to tell me how much I influenced them or feeding the hungry people at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Believe it or not I really like that more.  And if you knew some of my financial disasters and how some of them came about because I would rather keep a friend or not screw someone than make a ton of money you would see what I mean.  Having money is great and having the toys is fun but really who are you trying to impress.  I have had shitty cars too, and my girlfriend was one of the hottest strippers around.  She had more money than I did.  But she like me regardless of what I had.

Anyway, it is apparent XFactor has done well for himself.  Good for him.  The guys ragging on him are either jealous or just don't like the fact he brags about it.  Being humble is something that some people find hard to do.  If anyone says on here his house looks like crap is obviously just jealous.  It is not a house I would want but it isn't bad either.  It works for him.  By the way, every car and everything I have ever had that was worth something I paid cash for.  I didn't owe a thing.  In reality if it isn't paid for in full it isn't yours.

I'm not talking about money. Let's set material things aside.  You just come across as really lacking any sort of culture, worldly experience, and education.  Once you realize the importance of those things the success will come your way.

You seem like a honest guy. How in gods green earth did you rack up 15 thousand posts here??? With everything you just said I would imagine you have far better things to do then sit here and rack up that many posts.
Wtf???

Well my life has changed pretty much in the past 5 or 6 years.  All that shit I did was many years ago.  Luckily though I am on a rebound and everything looks like it is actually going to be a lot more busy for me and getting out there will be increasing dramatically in about two months.  I am hoping to get to the IHRSA show next month.  Things are looking way up for me right now.  And most of my posts are joking around and posting great looking pics ;D  Plus, I work a lot on my computer so I just have a separate tab open with Getbig and occasionally read and post something  But yes I have a ton of posts and have no life.

How much is a rolex, anyway?

What is the attraction of owning one?

I don't really know too much about them.

'Bout $20 from your average street vendor in Manhattan.  ;D

Real ones go for anywhere from a few thousand to tens of thousands, depending on the model.

IMO, Rolexes are played out.  They were the "in" thing back in the 80's, and since then have become the coveted brand of both the nouveau riche and those who really can't afford it but go into debt to buy some "bling".  They are also by far the most commonly faked luxury watch brand.

A better bet for someone looking for a luxury watch would be a Tag Heur, Breitling, Cartier, or Patek Philippe.

Completely disagree.  Tag's are just as faked and not nearly as classy.  A rolex will and always will be considered the cream of the crop as far as watches.  This is not an opinion rather a fact, look at the price of a Rolex, used or unused they still hold their value. It has been this way for forty years and that isn't changing.  They have branded well in the marketplace.  All around great watches.

My post wasn't a slam on you... just my opinion of the brand.

Education: ur education is just a framed piece of paper with some names printed on it. to me education is what u achive in ur life due to hard work and how u behave and get behaved by others.

Traveling: i am so proud of my own home ,i dont really need to travel to other parts of this world just to see some others disgusting homes, im pretty much happy where i am

an education is nothing more than time and money spent to get skills, and a piece of paper that opens some doors for you.

Those who have one will often have an advantage, but you can do just fine without one.

when i look at nice cars like that, all I can think of is, "how long would it take for my kid to dump his juice box all over the back seat"?

i have done that before, my dad had the new mercedes 300sd in the 90s and i spilled coke on the back seat... sat on top of it so my dad wouldnt find out until we got home(30 minutes) and then acted like nothing happened, the day after... the fucking leather seat was ruined... i just blamed my little brother  ;D
