Title: Denise Masino's Muscle Elegance Magazine
Post by: OneBigMan on February 13, 2008, 09:55:54 AM
Looking back a number of years, posting this is long overdue so I was wondering what are your feelings about what Denise Masino has done with Muscle Elegance Magazine to maybe tarnish or perhaps improve the image of female bodybuilders. Also I just want to know if her magazine is as popular within the whole industry as it should be or viewed by some as representing a tasteless perspective to women involved in bodybuilding.

Some people covet vanity over taste just for the money.

I saw that once at borders of all places.  It was wrapped in plastic, first and only time I have seen it, was pretty porny.  I don't think they knew what it was there at first and I have never seen it there again...not that I have been looking for it or anything :P

Do I think it degrades womens BB?  I have to say no and have no problem with that.  See it's this way, its their bodies FBB didn't build them, they did.  So they can do what they want with them.  They don't have signs on their heads that say "I represent FBB"  They got hot, freaky bods and lots of people like to look at them, for whatever reason.  Its a free market and they have their niche.

I can imagine many women BB would find it tasteless and get bent out of shape but why?  Its all about perspective.

I kind of feel similar to Luv about this issue, as it doesn't really bother me, and I am a FBB.  I tend not to judge people for things that they may do, as long as they are not hurting anyone else.

Is she hurting the "image" of FBB?  Hard to say.  I'm not sure the image would be any better if she weren't doing porn.

I don't really consider Denise to be a representative of FBB...I could name 10 other women who I would consider to be true representatives of FBB and ambassadors to the "sport."  Denise IS an FBB obviously, but she happens to make her money doing porn.

She's famous for that, but it's the general public's fault if they don't know enough about FBB to know that she doesn't represent the majority of competitors out there.  I think it's unfortunate if people associate porn, etc. with what FBB is all about, and it does make it tougher for those of us who would like that perception to change, but it's just the way it is.

People gotta make a living, and it can be hard for FBBs to make good money in the industry.  I don't really pay much attention to what people do to make money...she's not hurting me, and she is certainly filling a niche, and she's doing quite well for herself.
Same thing goes for Men's Bodybuilding and all the G4P stuff...Kai Greene f*cked a grapefruit on film...I would agree that he isn't necessarily the best role model (same goes for Denise), but I won't hold that against him.  ;D

Bodybuilding is a cult kind of thing anyway, it's never going to be mainstream or popular with the majority of people out there.

I don't really spend too much time worrying about what the general perception or image of FBB is...it's an important issue, but for the most part, I worry about MY image and what I represent.

Agreed.  Anyone actually know someone who has bought this magazine?  Probably not anyone besides your run-of-the-mill schmoe.

Besides, shouldn't you be more concerned about how the public perceives women in general based on the pictures in all the other mainstream magazines?  That is going to have more an effect on public perception of women than Masino's little, poor-selling porn magazine ever would on female bodybuilders.

I see nothing wrong with the Muscle Elegance magazines. It is geared toward the bbdr loving community. If you truly appreciate the female body with muscularity, definetion and beauty, you will definately like this magazine. She did well for herself. Good for her.  :)

So, you're cool with the girls with the 4 inch long little dick/clits? Those things look a little weird to me. I would guess that 98% of the girls in the MS. Olympia are sporting those little suckers.

Don't exagerate the clit size and no it doesn't bother me. There is an old saying, if you don't like it, don't look at it.

No need to get defensive. I think if a man started taking female hormones and started to grow small breasts, and getting a higher voice, shrunken genitals, and was featured nude in a magazine, some people might think it was a little unusual as well. That's kind of the same thing these women do, take male hormones and begin to get somewhat trans-gendered. Nothing wrong with that, just find it a little curious. Yes I exagerated, because this Get Big and it supposed to make you laugh sometimes. If I was dating one of these girls, I would probably be vigorously defending her as well. Having said that, I have looked through a few of Denise's magazines and I found some of the women to be quite hot. In fact a few years back there was a great spread of Debbie Laszewski and she looked awesome. Her genitalia was still normal looking as well. She looked muscular, but feminine. I used to see her at the gym I worked out at and if she hadn't already had a boyfriend...who knows.? I've also seen some competitors that have very deep voices, have to shave their faces twice a day, are losing their hair and look terrible. They have obviously taken too many drugs high in Androgens. Most "normal" men won't find that attractive, but again, to each his own.

Fair enough. Don't forget that those attributes that you mentioned are all the result of taking drug use to extreme extremes. I've seen women in my gym who took only anavar and or clen and they looked amazing. No deep voices, no facial hair, etc. But when you get people taking test, d-bol, and tren its a different story. To each his own I guess.

No I really don't think it is the same.  These women's primary reason to get big muscles is not sexual, like your comparison.  They are not trying to turn themselves into men, they enjoy the big muscles and the look of it and attempt to maintain their femininity.  Unlike a transgendered male, who is trying to be a woman.

Cant people accept that maybe there are women who like to their version of a muscular, built person, just like men do?  Maybe they like the look and the way it feels to have muscles and be strong just like some men do, but they are women.  Its the perception of others that see this as unusual, people who enjoy judging others  ::).  "normal" what is that?

I think they like being women and are not trying to change that.  I don't know when I'm in shape and looking big and separated that is the look I like for myself and admire it in others also.  I just don't see how it cant be the same for women, if thats their thing, without a bunch of "normal" people telling them how they should look and what defines a women.

The problem with Denise Masino is not that she is doing porn.

The problem is that she has so many obvious signs of steroid abuse.

Her pussy looks like a roast beef that's been beaten up.

Terrible.

And her voice, the facial change...

That's the problem.

Not the porn in itself.

Common people that picks up her mag by mistake in the bookstore sees a nude person with something sticking out between the leg, and gets disgusted.

I support both female bodybuilding and porn. That's why I think steroids is the biggest threat today to female bodybuilding.

Without them, female bodybuilding would have some kind of appeal to the public.

Because tell me one parent who will knowingly lead his/her daughter into female bodybuilding?

I even doubt you will find any active bodybuilders who would do that.

I would have no real issues if I had a daughter that decided to enter the adult industry.

It wouldn't make me happy, but it would be her choice.

But to see my daughter start injecting shit that would put her health at risk, what's with the cancer and heart risks anyway, how big are they, is it just some media hoax?

I could not stand by watching shit like that go on.

If she wanted to operate into a male, that would be another thing. Then I would support her/him totally of course. 8)

Sorry Hedge, but you lost me on that one. You're fine with your daughter taking the loads of 5o guys at once(some of them probably with unidentified strains of venereal diseases, maybe someone whose AID's test didn't pick up some incubating HIV), but you're more concerned with the risks of her taking a steroid shot? Why can you not support a female bodybuilder who takes hormone shots to win a competition, but you're ok with you're daughter taking hormone shots in an attempt to become a man? I don't quite get the logic. My problem with women overdoing steroids is that I was at some of the MS. Olympia's that Cory Everson won and found her to present herself as a work of art. I just dislike how far some of today's women have strayed from that ideal.

Well, if you grew up watching a movie like Pumping Iron or saw the late 70's early 80's Mr. Olympias, you saw how well the guys posed, how aesthetic they looked. I like a lot of the guys today as well, but many of them have pregnant looking bellies, synthol lumpiness, stand , walk and pose awkwardly. Bodybuilding was never meant to turn into that. Kids today who see that think that's what bodybuilding is supposed to be, because they don't know any better.

I didn't really know that starting this topic about Muscle Elegance Magazine would solicit so many responses.

I actually thought that Muscle Elegance Magazine might be overlooked because of the way it was presented as porn. The issue about this brand of porn is that it is not always presented as "softcore" type of porn. That is what stands out to me because of the number of competitors with name recognition that have appeared in Denise Masino's magazine. I say that basically because if there was more emphasis on showing very tasteful sexual content rather than strong sexual content, then there perhaps would be more female bodybuilders and fitness athletes who would show themselves in her magazine.

The way porn is needing to be catagorized shows that ( to me ) it's a "diverse" and "expansive" form of media

there's an open market for any type of porn you can imagine

find a freak discover a fetish

btw I don't mean " freak " in a bad way

That's why porn is classified as "softcore" or just hardcore pornography.

I wish Muscle Elegance Magazine would not push the envelope the way it does. The reason is their porn crosses over from being tasteful and acceptable to becoming too much in the eyes of the beholder, which is what makes the female brand of bodybuilding so subjective.
