Has anyone heard about this procedure? I have a friend that is scheduled to have it done.

About the NovaSure Procedure
The NovaSure procedure is a quick, safe, simple, one-time endometrial ablation treatment. This minimally invasive procedure controls heavy bleeding by using energy to remove the lining of the uterus. The average treatment time is about 90 seconds, and only needs to be performed once to lighten or stop your periods. No pretreatment drugs are required and NovaSure can be performed in the hospital or in your doctor's office.
Without the side effects of hormones or the risks of hysterectomy, NovaSure has a quick recovery time so you can get back to your life sooner. Most women experience no pain after the procedure, and can return to work and regular activities the next day.
NovaSure reduces bleeding and much more
With more than 500,000 patients treated to date2, NovaSure is proven safe and successful. A clinical trial has shown that more than 9 out of 10 women return to normal or lower than normal bleeding levels following treatments with NovaSure3. For some women, their periods even stopped completely.
Many women also experienced a reduction in PMS and painful periods, as well as other benefits such as less anxiety, greater self-confidence, and a boost in energy. NovaSure clinical trial post treatment survey results reveal,
45% reduction in women reporting PMS
64% reduction in women reporting pain
68% reduction in women reporting anxiety
71% reduction in women reporting
a lack of self-confidence
Nearly 4 fold reduction in women reporting
a lack of energy
NovaSure makes a difference!
Many women find that treatment with NovaSure frees them up to enjoy more of what life has to offer. According to the NovaSure clinical trial post treatment survey, 4 out of 5 women report spending more time at work and daily activities and missing fewer social and athletic events because of heavy bleeding.
A half a million women to date have chosen NovaSure to reduce or eliminate their heavy periods and improve their quality of life. Women are very pleased with the results of the NovaSure procedure; 97% say they would recommend NovaSure to other women 3
Hear what women say about NovaSure as their endometrial ablation of choice
One physician's patients are amazed at how effective NovaSure is. Another doctor's patients are reassured when she tells them that she has had the procedure herself.
Listen to what these doctors have to say about the effects of NovaSure.
NovaSure is a procedure for premenopausal women for whom childbearing is complete. If you do not plan to have children in the future, you may want to consider endometrial ablation. In a small percentage of patients, side effects included cramping, nausea/vomiting, discharge, and spotting.
Hear women's stories about heavy menstrual bleeding and the satisfaction they have experienced following NovaSure endometrial ablation.

I hope she has done her research.

I have not heard of this procedure, but encourage anyone who suffers from suffering from heavy bleeding or painful periods to research and consider such before thinking of say...a hysterectomy.

You know what I find disheartening here is , the fact , we "haven't" heard of this. :-\
I think since we all have gyno.'s why isn't there some type of monthly newsletters geared towards age groups and common concerns ??? They have our stat.'s on records , and know or are supposed to know all the latest info. , no ?

Here is an update from my friend:
"oiy, f*ck...yeah, i had it done. the doctor made it sound like a total walk in the park...they put this kind of small metal mesh umbrella in the hootinanany and open it up, then run electrical current through it for a couple seconds....like nothing, outpatient. well, b*tch didn't tell me til i got there that they do a d & c first. had i known i would've chickened out. they must not've given me enough happy juice cause i felt it! and it hurt. afterwards in recovery, i asked for some pain meds and my very sweet nurse got me some of the 'good stuff', which sadly i was allergic to and started throwing up. son of a b*tch. extended my recovery time at the hospital by three hours. about two weeks of limited physical activity, some major cramping after.
she's got me on full time pills so i don't know if it stopped my periods yet or not. so far i don't know if it's worked or not....made me glad i never had kids tho....i'm a total baby about uterine pain.."

With the age of the internet anyone who doesn't google something they would like info on has them self to blame for not being informed.
Dr's and others are not always up on the latest info or they may be using their own biases on what info they chose to give you or the slant they put on it, so you must empower yourself and do some research.
