hey mes thats good stuff thats moving some good weight congrats i feel like an idiot for a guy whos around 200 (206) and not hitting 300 yet...almost.... another 30 pounds  to go....so props bro
Title: Re: New bench personal bench press
Post by: mesmorph78 on February 20, 2008, 12:18:45 AM
wsup man....
no need to feel anyway.... strength is relative....
there are guys 250lb who cant even bench 225 withought a spotter deadlifting it off them...
strength is relative
my thing is as long as you're pushing to failure good honest lifting no hands on bar pulling it off you
then poundage doesnt matter because your doing the best you can... and you arent cheating yourself  and as time grown you get stronger

yea man thanks for the sound advice i lift my ass off every time i hit the gym so i know ill get there....its about 8 months now since ive started lifting heavy and serious and when i started i could barely press 185 for one and i weighed ike 215 ...now im at 206 for weight and pressing 235 for 4 and 270 for one good one...so ive come a way but still more to go....congrats on your accomplishment

Very nice, congrats most don't get there. Even sweeter looking like a BB, unlike most guys with good benches weighing a ton with stomachs hanging out.

Good stuff Mes, I did 315 for a solid 6 yesterday, then dropped back to 225 and did 20. It felt good, the weight went up easier than usual for some reason. Did you have a spotter for those sets?
Title: Re: New bench personal bench press
Post by: mesmorph78 on February 20, 2008, 11:12:29 AM
thx for the shoutouts
i only have someone unrack the bar.. from there is all me....
all the way down to my chest and up...
i dont beleive in ...spotting once the bar is unracked.. if some touched the bar during the rep you didnt do it by yourself.. i see guys daily doin that i remember seein a guy bench 315 for 12 reps with his pate deadlifting it off him... i decided to volunteer to spot him next set with 315.... unracked the bar... and he didnt even get one... i had to pull the wight off him and rack it ...after which i said u just did for 12 now u cant do one... why because ur friend was doing all the work..
thats why you dont see many guys doing dumbells... because its harder to get help and you have to do it yourself

awesome job. You'll be hitting 495 soon.  ;D
Title: Re: New bench personal bench press
Post by: ngm21084 on February 20, 2008, 11:19:49 AM
mes i dont know what it is but when i bench with a bb i own the bar and pretty much have never use spotters for anything but i absolutely blow ass hole at db presses....i just suck at pushing out the first rep....i really dont do much db work for chest presses because of it...
Title: Re: New bench personal bench press
Post by: mesmorph78 on February 20, 2008, 12:08:33 PM
 ;D ;D ;D i dunno about 495 just yet that 405 was heaaaavy
...

dumbell presses are a bitch compared to bench but my bench went up after i started doin them i hated them at first but i slowly built my poundage up on them... i do dumbells now more often than bench.... so if u wanna get ur chest and chest pressing strength up i would recommend dumbell presses totally
.. here is a thread i posted of me doin some dumbell presses

thx man...
i would say to u incorporate dumbell presses...
even if u have go lighter than ur bench press because dumbells are heavier.. as long as ur going to failure you are putting in the work... and ur bench will increase...

what do you think is more beneficial for the barbell flat bench Meso, DB inclines or DB flats?
Title: Re: New bench personal bench press
Post by: JasonH on February 20, 2008, 01:22:12 PM
Nice lifting Meso - even the 315 for 10 is impressive because it was probably done with excellent form and you don't see many guys doing those bench numbers with good form. It'll be a long time before I'm hitting four plates on bench.  :-\

Post by: kevcat on February 20, 2008, 02:34:16 PM
Wow thats heavy liftin man.Youre right about strength Mes.I wont ever probably reach that, but i give my all every time i hit the gym and thats what matters :) I personally never BB bench becos it irritates my shoulders.DBs i feel alot more in the chest also. But damn 170s??? haha  :o
Title: Re: New bench personal bench press
Post by: mesmorph78 on February 20, 2008, 04:47:13 PM
most benificial to my bench i would say is flat dumbell press...
which i do after inclines.... on dumbell day..
they are bitch hard when it gets heavy
but these are what brought my bench up.. because i always used to do incline dumbell.. presses because i dont really like incline barbell presses. they hit my delts too much but yes id definetly say heavy flat dumbell presses helped ...a lot
wsup kev why do you say you probaly wont ever press that heavy... i never put a cap on what i can do like that... i just keep going... and seein all heavy weights as a challenge.... one day i hope to lift 200's may be 10 yrs from now or 5 yrs thats cool.. lifting is a life long thing for me... so its all good
as long as your going to failure for you thats all that matters.. keep up the good job man

what blows my mind is the volume you did leading up to that press! And how much more you could've done if you didn't do so many reps per set on the way up! maybe if you went 135x15x1,225x8x1,315x6 or 8 reps for a set...knowing how damn strong you are, you could've hammered it a few more reps!  :o
Title: Re: New bench personal bench press

mm i see ur point
i didnt plan to do it really..just felt good that day..
and with bench i like to pound the lighter sets before maxing out...so im warm and in the groove before i go really heavy...
on  other bench days
its usually 35 for 20
225  for15
315 for
3 and a half plates 4 reps
3 and 3 quarter plat (15kg) for a double or single

Excellent lifts, meso.  405 flat bench is always impressive raw, esp on a guy who weighs half that.  Props. 8)

Everyone can only try for their best; most won't reach 400 lb. not because of a lack of effort but rather genetics and/or injuries as the body breaks down under heavier loads. Those at 400 and above have a predisposition for benching, usually injury-free or something like it. Onlyme's an example, i don't think he's ever been seriously injuried while benching heavy.

i just never felt arms need low reps like anything under 6 reps...
and i only dont go up on certain arm excersises..namely olympic barbell curls because when i start to go too heavey i tend to start  to swing... because the bar is so wide.. where as with bench its harder for you to cheat
besiides and olympic bar plus a 45 each side gets the job done maybe one a month i go up heavy nowadays
all other arm excersises i pyramid up on... actually goods arm gains now legitmate 19's now..at this minute..
when i do camber bar curls ..i wll pyramid up alwas but i rarely do those..
at the moment what has given me extra size on my arm is workin arms twice a week..
one light workout ..consisting of 3 excersis
and on fridys my real arm session.. 5 excersises for tris 4 for bis
so my split is now
monday back - light bis
tuesday chest - light tris
wed  rest
thursday legs
fri.shoulders ..heavy arms
tho my arms are 19.. my delts chest and back grow really fast particularly mny chest.. and delts
so i g=hit arms alonside them to keep in proportion
anyway hows your lifting going?

Interesting split. You plan on doing legs twice a week too? ;D But 19 inchs guns :o  wow dude that's awesome!

My training is going pretty good. I just did my first leg workout in 6 weeks and now I can barely walk. I trained upperbody twice a week and got some size and strength gains from that.

I am trying to gain some strength on chest but my dumbells at the gym only go up to 100s. I am thinking of gripping two dumbells at the same time like a 100 pounder and 20 pounder. Hope that works. Keep up the great work!

I never claimed that. The point was that there can be little progress made whilst on such a diet. Maintenance at best.

I will be lucky at this age if I ever can bench 200 for reps.

If you insist on this pseudo-sarcastic, prepubescent tone, which your posts tend to smack of, I will smack back. Refrain now...

your gym dumbells only go to 100"s... mmm switch gyms i switch gym relatively oftem to keep the atmosphere fresh.. always get a lil bigger when i do
legs twice a week no... bad knee..not from athletics and soccer.. my legs are ok,... put some size on there.. genetically i wont have branch size legs or dorian calves... but i get down to it in the gym..
i prefer havin big guns to big legs tho i must admit...  8)    90% of guys probably would too.

Good point about the gym but I am getting a pretty sweet deal here. I volunteer for 1 1/2 hours a week at basketball and get the membership for free. All I do at basketball is just play with a bunch of friends. The nearest hardcore gym will take a while to get to because of traffic. I go to any YMCA on the island but they all have little weights. :( yeah YMCA! lol

last gym i was at... i was practically gettin free membership....
but it doesnt matter...
it got too crowded... guy put a boxing ring in
which made the dumbell section tight
so I left...
ur set up sounds like a sweet deal tho..
dont you drive?
ask the owner to get in some bigger dumbells...

Yeah I drive to the gym. It takes me 15-20 minutes ususally. It I where to drive to the hardcore gym it would be at least an hour in rush hour. I been mentioning it for years bro, get new dbs! lol you should see the people training there. All working on their "core" LMAO! But I do have my training partners there and they are monsters.. but not at their prime anymore. If you're ever in Canada hit me up and we'll get in a workout.
