She's about to give us President Obama?
are you kidding? She bumped him at an important point, but it's been all Obama since that. Huckabee got one hell of a bump from Chuck, which I underestimated at the time. Anyway, It's not like Oprah is on the touring with Obama. If he becomes president, I think saying Oprah delivered him the win would be vastly overstated. Helped him, yes. Helped him what? Helped him deliver his message as a candidate at a critical point. Oprah is Overated.

Bumped? You mean like she bumps books she talks about on her show that then become best sellers? Who else can do that? I've never been an Oprah fan, but the woman is powerful.

she is powerful, I don't deny that. but I don't see it going past her initial push. She hasn't gone out and spoken in a campaigning way since then. I will give she had an initial push in people looking at him, does that translate to her giving him the presidency, oh hell no. If his candidacy isn't there, he would have dropped like a rock. I'm saying you can't give the credit to Oprah for his success, that's a fact.
-
Yes, she is the head of the liberal media which controls all aspects of mass communication.
You read it here--a talkshow host controls our politics.

Did oprah play a huge part in winning women and african american vote? Very possible.
Obama is winning 80% of black vote, and splitting the woman vote. He won the last 10 primaries with a 33% margin of victory.
Clinton used to OWN the black and female vote. Did Oprah play a part in it? Who knows.

I was actually a richardson fan until he withdrew. Obama worries me. Very optimistic, positive, and a good decision maker, and smart too. but he is inexperienced, and 'learning on the job' is bad. If he and hilary split the delegates and end up prez/VP, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

I wouldn't call it a fact one way or the other. Really impossible to know what her true impact has been. Looks like it was significant. Just like being able to give the convention speech made him an instant rock star.

I'd take a flier at this one: Obama is getting a lot of the black vote b/c he, himself, is black.
-

Possible. But black voters, when polled, chose hilary at a 3-to-1 clip back in the fall of 2007. Today, they're polling the opposite (and voting that way too).
So it's a fact that some black voters have changed their allegience from hilary to O
-
Decker...this race is not about.....race. ;)
-
Actually it really isn't about race. Not a whole lot of black voters in Iowa where Obama won or New Hampshire where Obama almost won. Winning in places like South Carolina and Wisconsin shows his support crosses racial lines.
-
Well I disagree a bit....Blacks have the first viable candidate in their history. The one thing I find interesting. Obama does well in areas that are either all black or all white...but not as well in mixed areas. There is also Clinton fatigue....people hate her.
-
Decker...this race is not about.....race. ;)
How typical of you to play the race card.
Well I'm not buying your Politically Correct Shtick!
I had a hard time typing that without breaking up....

Bandwagoning becomes a lot easier when you can identify with the candidate on a level that is not policy driven.
Obama has the momentum...just like the Giants did in the Superbowl.
It's palpable.

funny how fast we're evolving as a society in the last decade.
Open to things that never could have been before.

I'm not sure what game ur refering to. I think if it were Clinton Vs Jessie or Sharpton u wouldn't see as many Blacks flocking to them. Obama can win....but some blacks on here have mentioned that he will face more issues about his "blackness" from fellow blacks. I don't care if he's purple...I don't like his politics.
240...and the rest. Regardless of what anybody outside the US says...we're close to electing a Black man as president...we've had several blacks run for that office...how many supposedly enlightened Western nations...especially in Europe can say that.

I agree Hillary hatred is playing a major role. You've noted this before, but there really isn't anything that separates those two politically.
I don't really agree on the race issue. I really thought it would play a larger role, but I was wrong. If you look at the crowds at his speeches and his performance in the race so far, the fact he is a Halfrican American hasn't hurt him at all.
Queen Oprah’s endorsement didn’t hurt either.

yeah, keyes got 3rd in Iowa in 2000. it's 8 years later, obama wins iowa.
the nation wants him. i know he's woefully unprepared, but in 4 years he could make some psitive change. McCain's had 30 years in congress and has done good, and done some bad. in 4 years, things won' tlook that much diff under mccain. they will probably look a bit different under obama.

Yep. She got burned by that guy.
Colin Powell's wife was concerned for his safety and I think that's primarily why he didn't run. Too bad.

Colin Powell was concerned that Karl Rove would make his wife's medical history public. That's why he didn't run.

Oprah's book pick sells at record pace
NEW YORK (AP) -- Even for an Oprah Winfrey book pick, "A New Earth" has been a sensation. About 3.5 million copies of Eckhart Tolle's spiritual self-help guide have been shipped since Winfrey, host of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," announced her selection four weeks ago.
The book has topped the best-seller list on Amazon.com virtually from the moment Winfrey's choice was revealed, and it is the fastest-selling pick ever at Barnes & Noble Inc., according to a statement issued Thursday by Winfrey.
It's also a record shipment in a four-week span for any book by Penguin Group (USA), which has published such million sellers as Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love" and Ken Follett's Winfrey-endorsed "The Pillars of the Earth."
Brian Tart, president and publisher of the Penguin imprint Dutton, told The Associated Press that a key factor was the upcoming Web seminars featuring Winfrey and Tolle, to be held for 10 consecutive Mondays starting March 3.
"Oprah herself has committed 10 weeks to talking to the author, and people from all over the world will be able to participate," said Tart, who added that more than 500,000 people, from more than 100 countries, have registered for the seminar.

correct. Mccain's wife had some drug issues a few years back, i think she went to rehab. I certainly wouldn't hold that against him. Clinton's hubby seems to have self control issues. Obama's wife puts her foot in mouth a lot and has a chip on her shoulder.
Nobody is perfect. Mccain left his first wife when she got sick. Clinton has done a lot of shady stuff. Obama did a lot of coke.
They're just people. It's the decisions they make that sets them apart as great.

Oprah 'doing the happy dance' over Obama win

Oprah hit the trail for Obama during the primary season.
(CNN) — Oprah Winfrey is ecstatic over Barack Obama’s apparent victory in this year’s Democratic presidential race.
"I'm euphoric, I've been doing the happy dance all day,” she said in a statement released Wednesday I'm so proud of Barack and Michelle and what this means for all of us, the new possibilities for our country.”
The talk show host, who campaigned for Obama in several key early primary states, added: “And if he wants me to, I'm ready to go door to door."

I said a couple of years ago that Oprah could win the Presidency if she were to run.
Later, she came out with her endorsement of Obama and it was at that point that he became a household name.
I believe that a Black person can win the Presidency during my lifetime, but my prediction is that the first Black to win the office would come from the Republican Party. With their operatives so deeply rooted in 'how things run', I don't believe I will see the 2-party monopoly undone in my lifetime.

Oprah on Obama: ‘I Cried My Eyelashes Off’by Associated Press
Friday, August 29, 2008
DENVER — Oprah Winfrey is leaving Denver with the candidate she wanted, but reportedly without her eyelashes.
The talk-show host said she was moved to tears by Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. And those must’ve been some serious tears.
“I cried my eyelashes off,” she said in the bowels of Invesco Field, moments after Obama accepted the nomination for president before an estimated 84,000 people.
“I think it’s the most powerful thing I have ever experienced,” she added, calling Obama’s words “transcendent.” On the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream Speech,” Winfrey compared Obama’s words to those of the civil-rights leader, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
“He’s not an African-American candidate,” she said. “He’s a candidate for Americans.”
Winfrey threw her support behind Obama early — even before the Democratic primaries got under way last year. She’s stayed active since, hosting rallies and fundraisers that even Obama has acknowledged have given him a boost.

Have no idea. I'll ask Him when we have our conference call. It's scheduled for a few minutes after the Obama campaign finishes theirs.
"Obama campaign's prayer conference calls went from weekly to daily four months ago, and will continue through Election Day. Supporters of the Illinois senator have started prayer circles, enlisting friends to join them online, on the phone or in person to pray for wisdom for the candidate."

Blagojevich makes TV rounds as impeachment trial set to begin
(CNN) -- Impeachment proceedings against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich are scheduled to begin Monday in the state Senate, but the embattled governor is expected to skip the trial and instead appear on several television programs.
Blagojevich is facing federal corruption allegations, including trying to trade or sell the Senate seat that became vacant after Barack Obama was elected president.
The second-term Democratic governor has denied wrongdoing.
In his first live prime-time interview, Blagojevich will appear Monday on CNN's "Larry King Live."
He spoke with ABC's "Good Morning America" on Monday morning and appeared later on ABC's "The View."
On "Good Morning America," Blagojevich said he considered appointing Oprah Winfrey as Obama's Senate replacement.
"She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way become president," he said. "She was obviously someone with a much broader bully pulpit than other senators."
The governor said Winfrey was one of several candidates he had considered for the position.

Blagojevich: Oprah Winfrey for Senate
Posted: June 28th, 2010
From CNN's Jillian Harding
Blagojevich considered Oprah Winfrey as a potential successor to President Obama's former Senate seat.
During his search for a successor to fill President Obama's former Senate seat, then-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich considered picking talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
In newly- released transcripts of telephone conversations from 2008, introduced into evidence during his trial on Monday, Blagojevich made his case for Winfrey, saying she was "the king maker."
Speaking with his Chief of Staff Richard Harris, Blagojevich continued, "She made Obama."
Harris countered by saying, "So is it that you're tryin' to shed some grace on thee, by picking her?"
Later in the conversation Blagojevich returned to Winfrey, an Obama supporter, as a choice who would have mass appeal, saying, "There's nothing affirmative action about her. She's a huge success, a mega success in her own right."
He added, "Whereas some of these other candidates I put there are just clearly affirmative action. And I'm putting an African American in there... who's not nearly as qualified as some other white candidates you see what I'm saying?"
Elsewhere in the discussion, Blagojevich spoke about the potential to make history with his pick.
"You know, appointing the first African American woman U.S. senator is historic," he said, though not specifically mentioning Winfrey.
Throughout the conversations Blagojevich frequently advocated choosing an African- American successor to Obama.
CNN contacted Winfrey's office but has not yet received a response.
The ousted governor is accused of telling his former chief of staff, John Harris, that he wanted "a good gig" in exchange for an appointment to Obama's seat, either in Washington or with a lucrative private foundation.
Blagojevich was arrested in December 2008 on federal corruption charges.

Oprah: I want O.J. to confess to me
Her iconic talk show may be over, but Oprah Winfrey still has a dream interview.
“I have a dream of O.J. Simpson confessing to me,” Winfrey said. “And I am going to make that happen, people.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the remarks were made during a Q & A at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association's annual Cable Show held at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center.
Paula Zahn, host of "Investigation Discovery," interviewed Winfrey Thursday, and the talk show host discussed being committed to growing her OWN network and that elusive guest she still wants to book.
“I don’t just want the interview,” Winfrey said. “I want the interview on the condition that you are ready, Mr. Simpson.”

Oprah Tells Obama 'No' for Obamacare Help
Sunday, 20 Oct 2013
By Sandy Fitzgerald
Celebrities may be lining up to push the president's healthcare insurance plan, but Obamacare will not be getting any Oprahcare any time soon.
Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, who went all out during the 2008 presidential election to help President Barack Obama win the White House, is spurning the Oval Office's advances when it comes to promoting the troubled Affordable Care Act, wrote best-selling author Ed Klein in a New York Post piece Sunday.
"The story of why Oprah has changed her tune and gone AWOL on ObamaCare goes well beyond mere gossip," wrote Klein, author of "The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House."
Editor's Note: ObamaCare Is About to Strike Are You Prepared?
"It speaks volumes about the convergence of celebrity and politics under Obama and about a president who thinks nothing of using and then discarding his most loyal supporters."
In fact, Klein says a close advisor of Winfrey's reported the media mogul gave the White House an "immediate, flat-out, unequivocal no" when she was invited to the White House in August to discuss publicizing the president's health care plan.
White House adviser Valerie Jarrett had phoned Winfrey in August to invite her to the White House to meet with a host of other stars, including Amy Poehler, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys to meet with Obama to discuss publicizing the law.
Winfrey instead sent a lower-level representative from one of her talent agencies. As the president's healthcare plan has turned into the train wreck its Republican opponents have been calling it all along, the woman who brought millions of votes to Obama's first presidential campaign has not lifted a finger to help him out.
Klein said Winfrey is still feeling snubbed because she did not get the unfettered access she expected to the Obama White House when she was stumping nationwide for him. While she campaigned heavily for him in 2008, giving her first-ever presidential endorsement, she backed away for the 2012 race, saying that she was too busy launching her new cable network, OWN, to join in the campaign.
"What was not reported was that, in return, Oprah was promised unique access to the White House if Obama won," Klein said. "She’d get regular briefings on initiatives and a heads-up on programs to give her material for her fledgling cable network, OWN."
A source close to Winfrey told Klein that there were big plans, and a team was put together to come up with proposals that would benefit them both, but nothing happened, and OWN has struggled since its debut.
"Oprah sent notes and a rep to talk to Valerie Jarrett, but nothing came of it," the source said. "It slowly dawned on Oprah that the Obamas had absolutely no intention of keeping their word and bringing her into their confidence.”
And while Winfrey has claimed she is too busy to become involved in politics, she did find time to host a recent huge fundraiser for Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who ended up winning his state's Senate seat this past week.
Winfrey's friends protest that the first lady of talk shows is on the outs with Obama and his wife Michelle. They note that Winfrey called the first lady after the 2012 election to congratulate her, and that Michelle Obama invited her to dinner with the family. But that dinner hasn't happened.
“Oprah was hoping there would be a genuine change in the atmospherics,” a friend told Klein, “But there hasn’t been. Clearly, she is being rebuffed at the level of Michelle and Valerie. And, just as obviously, President Obama hasn’t interfered on Oprah’s behalf.”
Klein noted that in "The Amateur," the first lady is jealous of Winfrey and furious that her husband was seeking her advice.
“For her part, Oprah doesn’t like being with Michelle, because the first lady is constantly one-upping the president and anybody else around her,” an Oprah advisor told Klein. “Oprah has struck back by banning the Obamas from her O, The Oprah Magazine."

Oprah Winfrey has announced she is supporting Hillary Clinton for president.
You get an endorsement! And you get an endorsement!
Oprah Winfrey is supporting Hillary Clinton for president in what she called “a seminal moment for women.”
“I really believe that is going to happen,” the talk show icon told “Entertainment Tonight” on Wednesday. “I’m with her.”

Clinton and Oprah in 1996.
It’s no surprise that Oprah, a trailblazer herself, is backing the first female nominee of a major American political party. Despite having grown up in a low-income household, the media mogul is one of the world’s only female self-made billionaires.
The news must come as a shock to presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, who has long said he’d “love” Oprah as a running mate.
Oprah spoke up for Clinton earlier this year after rapper T.I. said he couldn’t vote for a woman to be president because of her emotions, or something.
“Honey child, hush your mouth,” she said. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
She wasn’t always “with her,” though. In 2007, Oprah backed then-Sen. Barack Obama over Clinton, but said that she had “great respect for Hillary Clinton.
“I think I’ve said this before and it’s true: Because I am for Barack does not mean I am against Hillary or anybody else,” she said. “I have not one negative thing to say about Hillary Clinton.”

Oprah Not Running for President in 2020
By Joe Crowe | Wednesday, 18 Oct 2017
Oprah Winfrey said she was not considering running for president in 2020.
"There will be no running for office of any kind for me," Winfrey said Wednesday on "CBS This Morning."
"CBS This Morning" cohost Gayle King introduced the question of whether Winfrey would run by asking Winfrey about her possible running mate.
"2020. I'm wondering if you've narrowed down your list of VP candidates," King said.
"She's lost her mind now. No, I haven't," Winfrey responded.
In September, Winfrey sparked speculation that she might run for president in a shout-out to a columnist for writing that she would be "Democrats' best hope in 2020."

Gayle King: Oprah 'Intrigued' by 2020 Race, Not 'Actively Considering' It

"CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King said Tuesday she thinks her best friend, Oprah Winfrey, is "intrigued by the idea" of challenging President Donald Trump for the White House in 2020, but she's not "actively considering" a campaign.
"I absolutely don't think that her position has changed," King said during the early morning program. "I don't. You know, I was up talking to her very late last night. I do think this though, guys. I do think she's intrigued by the idea."
King continued that she also knows after years of watching Winfrey's television show, "you always have a right to change your mind."
"I don't think at this point she is actually considering it," said King. "Listen, there are people who have said they want to be her campaign manager, who want to quit their jobs and campaign for her. She loves this country and would like to be of service in some way, but I don't think that she's actively considering it."
Speculation started growing about Winfrey's political ambitions after her speech at Sunday night's Golden Globe awards, and was spurred more when her longtime companion, Stedman Graham, told the Los Angeles Times that she would "absolutely" run, but the decision was "up to the people."
King, though, said Graham had not understood the reporter's question.
"Stedman says that he thought the reporter said to him 'Would she make a good president?' And he said, 'absolutely she would,'" said King. "Stedman would never so cavalierly say absolutely she would do it, it's up to the people. He would never do that."
Meanwhile, King said the Golden Globes producers had wanted Winfrey to cut her speech to about three minutes long. She insisted in keeping it at six minutes, and after applause was factored in, it timed out at nine minutes.
"I think the producers thought that was worth going late for," King said. "She wanted that moment to be more than women wearing black dresses of solidarity. She really did want to speak to young girls around the country."

I could def see her beating Trump (course I thought Hillary was going to win) due to higher voter turnout/black vote.

I think she would have a hard enough time in a primary versus a Bernie Sanders type.
The Progressive Left would come UNGLUED if The DNC tried to pull shenanigans and gift her the nomination.
This whole thing reeks of a cheap publicity stunt.

She gives a speech to a bunch of hypocritical Hollywood degenerates and people are ready to make her Commander in Chief? I don't think so.

That's what Obama did.

True. His 2004 speech put him in the spotlight. Oprah helped push him across the finish line in 08.

so what
Trump made speeches to a bunch of scared bigots, racists and morons and they made him POTUS
As we all know, the only "qualification" for the job is winning the electoral college
Nothing else matters

Quite true. It was great how he exposed you and your type so voters could choose otherwise.

It matters not who she gave the speech to. What matters is what she said. Most agree that it was very powerful and relevant.

We already had one female black communist potus.

Not to worry, Oprah is probably too smart to take on that thankless job. But if she did, it would be groundbreaking and amazing. Many folks (like you) would probably have to off themselves. ;D

You make under $159k a year?
I've had years with an AGI above and below that number (2008 and 2009 were below that number)
I'm self employed (Schedule C but I might change that this year)
I could create a self directed 401k but I've had a SEP IRA for many years and haven't bothered with anything else yet

Amazing? Why - cause we get another emotionally weak african american female as POTUS?
-
There's absolutely no indication that she'd make and even competent president. It's like liberals trying to throw the most ridiculous person possible in the fire in spite of their own delusions they've made for themselves that Donald Trump has been a bad president even though his policies have caused the stock market to boom along with job growth.
It's like a double delusion. Very very sad most liberal women and liberal beta men are going through their own period of insanity right now. Good thing California doesn't decide the election.

You have to be joking
Trump lowered that bar 25 feet underground
The only thing a candidate is required to be competent at is winning the electoral college

Oprah Winfrey Reveals the One Thing That Could Make Her Run for President
MARY GREEN and ALE RUSSIAN
February 28, 2018
There’s only one thing that could make Oprah Winfrey run for president in 2020.
Amid calls for her to consider a run for the White House — from fans as well as her closest friends — “I went into prayer,” she tells PEOPLE in the magazine’s new cover story. “ ‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’ And I haven’t gotten that.”
The media mogul and star of the new movie A Wrinkle in Time found herself in the political spotlight after her inspiring speech at the 2018 Golden Globes while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Winfrey had the crowd of Hollywood’s biggest stars on their feet and in tears with her moving words and promise that “a new day is dawning.” She was surprised to hear the immediate response the rest of the country had.
“When I walked off with Reese [Witherspoon], I thought, ‘I got that done,’ ” she says. “It wasn’t until I was back in the press room that they said, ‘Do you realize you’re trending?’ ”
Winfrey says her best friend Gayle King urged her to take the possibility seriously and peppered her with messages of support from others who would back her.
“I had people—wealthy, billionaires—calling me up and saying, ‘I can get you a billion dollars. I can run your campaign,”‘ she reveals. “That many people saying something made me think, ‘Am I at least supposed to look at the question?’ ”
In the issue, the mogul opens up about working with Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and young newcomer Storm Reid on the highly anticipated A Wrinkle in Time and her emotional decision to finally say #MeToo and talk about her experience with sexual abuse.
Winfrey also says she had no regrets about not raising children with longtime partner Stedman Graham, saying instead that the South African girls she helps through her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls have been “enough.”
“It was just the right combination of mentor, mother, leader, guide. Just to see all of them blossom into these flourishing human beings,” Winfrey says. “They delight me. Make me laugh a lot. They have surprised me in ways that have brought wonder and great joy.”
Now in her 60s, and after decades of being a comfort to millions all around the world, Winfrey still says making people happy is what she loves most.
“Nothing makes me happier than to see other people in their purest moments of joy,” she admits. “Sometimes, honest to goodness, I’m just sitting around thinking, “What could I do to make somebody feel really good today?”

She's over 60, so I'd expect some sag, but the sheer size of them makes up for that. I would probably gnaw on that twat too. Just for the fuck of it.

Oprah Winfrey Pushes Bob Iger 2020: ‘Exactly What the Country Needs Right Now’
By WARNER TODD HUSTON 3 Oct 2019
She may not be running for president herself but it appears that Oprah Winfrey has found one person who she thinks could make a great president: Disney CEO Bob Iger.
Along with actress Jennifer Garner, Winfrey expressed her hopes that the Disney chief was going to throw his hat into the 2020 race for the Democrat nomination, according to Variety.
Presenting an award to Iger at the Save the Children Centennial Celebration: Once in a Lifetime Gala in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Winfrey was wistful about an Iger run for the White House.
“I’ll tell you the truth, this is not really where I intended to be tonight,” Winfrey told the crowd. “I was hoping that by this time in early fall, I would be knocking on doors in Des Moines, wearing an ‘Iger 2020’ t-shirt. Because I really do believe that Bob Iger’s guidance and decency is exactly what the country needs right now.”
Actress Jennifer Garner was also adamant that Iger would make a great presidential candidate.
“Mr. Iger is everything you could want in a leader,” Garner said. “I dare to say he is presidential. He’s dignified, he’s a risk-taker, he is down to earth, he is wise, and he has integrity. I would hand him any job I possibly could,” she added.
“Is it too late?” Garner added.
For his part, Iger invoked Ronald Reagan from the dais.
“Oprah, I am reminded of something that Ronald Reagan said to Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential debate, ‘There you go again.’ Please, I am not about to become the 25th or the 30th person seeking the presidency in 2020,” Iger joked.
He went on to say that he hopes whoever becomes president in 2020 will “make the safety and well-being of children their number one priority.”
Iger was rumored to have been considering a run for the Democrat nomination early this year and even took a meeting with former President Barack Obama on the issue.
