Actually, not just squats, but overhead presses, as well as heavy leg presses. Does the weight compress one's spine and space between the joints, resulting in shortening of ones height? Legitimate question, seeking legitimate answers. Thanks.

put it to you like this, i started squatting seriously in 1995 when i was 23, before that i was between a size 10 1/2 and 11 depending on the shoe, now in 2008 my shoe size is 12 and in some shoes 12 1/2, how do you explain that?
-
I ask because I just got back from Pump Gym and had a brutal leg workout. I nearly fucking passed out in the changing room after the workout and damn near puked during it. Anyways, I felt damn compressed after the workout, as if I was somehow shorter. Can continuous workouts like this take a inch off your height?
Funny about your feet growing Squadfather. That's a first!

totally serious here, one day a few years ago i tried on a pair of old 11's that i had and i couldn't have squeezed into them with a shoehorn and they used to slide right on without even untying the laces.

...don't you know that women often go up a shoe size or two during pregnancy? (due to swelling)
Or have all the women in your family lived their lives barefoot?

Dan
Temporary if you lift really heavy, it will be corrected back during sleep. Unless you sleep standing up. After extremely hard and long workouts, like strong man competitions, it can take several days.

Generally, if you are below the age of 40, you may lose up to one inch in height...but this effect is only temporary...it will last a matter of hours. This is because the discs are more of a fluidic consistency and they are more pliable...they will submit to the axial pressure of heavy squats. Won't happen with everyone, but it is possible.

I haven't gained an inch in height ever since I started training. 15 years old 6'4"

that seems odd...but 6'4" is pretty tall, obviously

Age. Gravity.

Age. Gravity.
Could be cartilage growth but unlikely.
HGH might do that- it can cause finger and toe growth/lengthening.
-
Not sure if this is true but heard when younger kids, under 18, lift heavy or squat heavy their growth plates can harden prematurely.
Possibly stunting their growth? ???
I used to do heavy box squats in High School and never grew an inch since then..

Dan
Are you fucking kidding me? Space between the joints ::) Height is decided trough the bones.
According to your logic, if you took a man bu his arms and legs and pull on both sides you will make him longer.
Please delete your thread, its very stupid. Its embarassing.

Let's not forget weight gain. I think Squad has noted his at 240lbs. Need some good stabilizers for that at 5'11"*.
*guesstimate: see matt c for definitive height/weight

Haha maybe you should use kiwiol's ethiopian elbows to stomp your foot in to the shue. Is that pic still on getbig where kiwi is sitting at a table outside with a broad. I swear he had some goddamn pointing to ethiopia elbows.

It does. I was a size 14 when I was 25 lbs heavier than I am now, and I am a 13 now.
-
Personally, i think that they do. I started training about 5 years ago. I have a friend that i was about 1/2 of an inch taller than. He don't train. These days I'm a half of an inch samaller than him. Ok, shoes etc may come into affect hear, but I'm convinced that they do make you lose height. After every session i always hang from a chin bar for bouts of 30 seconds to stretch out the spine. I don't seem to be shrinking anymore.
-
last I heard only stupidity does, but seriously, if you want to be shorter try an ax.
I know its uncalled for, couldnt help it...
