Quick one day project.
PM me.
-
Graphic design, i'm great just send a deposit to my P.O. box, PM for the addy and i'll be able to get started right away. Cool?

Alex23,
I have a degree in experimental physics from a good university... offer me a job so I can get out of this Irish backwater.
I'm lifting shit on building sites thanks to the jobs market over here.

I'm serious for once...
PM me if you're interested.

Alex23,
I have a degree in experimental physics from a good university...
Experimental physics? About the only thing you can do with that is be a researcher at a university... there is no practial application in the economy at large. That's like having a philosophy degree. ::)

That's the attitude that has thwarted my every attempt to procure a proper job... Not bragging, but I have a 130 IQ and a numerical/mathematical understanding of the nature of reality. I can literally turn my hand to anything... computer modeling; architecture; engineering; optics; chemistry; whatever.
I've worked as a proof-reader and script consultant in the Irish movie scene; I've built magnetic resonance sensors; I've been a film extra; I've taught survival training courses; I've worked as a documentary cameraman; I've even worked as an artist...
But what I mostly do is grunt work: lifting things on construction sites; building luxury furniture; making deliveries; mopping floors... whatever it takes to raise money for my treasure hunting and Bigfooting expeditions.
9/11 totally shut down the R&D sector across the globe.
You Americans don't know how lucky you are living in a country of such opportunity.

Anyone good in graphics design and want to make a few bucks?
240 or Bust.

Not really, many companies that are into optics, semiconductors, fabrication technology, materials engineering and much more employ many many physicists.
You need to understand that 99% of degree's are basically giving you the large picture of the field and thats all.You learn everything on the job, especially on jobs on those fields.
The thing is that physicists have good tools, they study lots of math and physical effects and can be turned into a good ______ with little training.

IFBBwannaB,
I wish the average Human Resources manager understood the subject of physics as well as you do.
I've been turned down for office junior jobs because (and I quote): "Physics? What, like with Tarot cards and tea leaves?"
A college buddy of mine has a PhD in "approximating numerical solutions to complex quantum mechanical interactions"... he's currently pedaling a rick-shaw around Dublin city centre (no joke) for tips (the job doesn't actually pay at all), and has been for the past 18 months.
GetBig brothers, help out a fellow lifter... anyone on here live in Ireland?

How did 9/11 shut down research?
-
... Not bragging, but I have a 130 IQ
Well above average, but still lower than mine.
So how is it you're working as a laborer on a construction site? Are you sure they didn't make a mistake when testing you?
-
No fucking use to try anything serious on here..
what as I thinking ::)
-
How did 9/11 shut down research?
-the markets get jittery
-companies start worrying about their stock price
-laying off 200 $50k-a-year employees saves the company $10m
-however laying off 200 workers sends the wrong signal to the jittery markets
-better to lay off 10 $50k-a-year physicists
-that saves the company $500k
-but that also saves the company $10m in R&D costs (lab overheads; expensive equipment etc etc)
-no one notices the lay off of 10 nerds
Here in Ireland, in the months following 9/11 the Big Three: Dell, Microsoft and Intel all announced 2 year moratoriums on hiring; that's 90% of Irish physics graduates out of work straight away. Two years later, the moratoriums were extended... around 2005 hiring started again, except they all stipulated that they would only hire those who had graduated in the last year (after not hiring anyone for five years).
Hence we have an entire lost generation of highly educated science graduates who are stuck working minimum wage jobs.
Add to this situation the fact that Irelands population is only 4 million. In 2004 Ireland opened its jobs market to workers from other European countries... within 6 months 400,000 immigrants had joined the labour force. That means a level of competition that has reduced everyone to the minimum wage.
You Americans have it easy.

Alex, What is it you do? I gather some IT related venture?
I want to know what it takes to sit on the deck overlooking the fairway sucking down cubans and fucking bitches all day.

WOW. ::) Combine that with your physique that blows Lee Labrada's away, and you're a regular Renaissance "man".

that's too bad, bro. Looks like "Teh Luke" went and hijacked yet another thread. He has been hijacking a lot of them lately. It must be lonely in the basement. :-\
