I did that with 185lbs a couple times....just goofin around in my college gym. I never tried 275lbs....I don't think I could do that.

Yeah, for real. Lifting 275 for a farmers walk type of lift is one thing, but add in the balance factor and it becomes a whole different lift. Very impressive.

yeah it's supposed to be... and yeah farmers are not only easier because they balance each other out but they're shorter. If you don't grip the barbell EXACTLY in the middle or standup smoothly...the offset or swing is enough to crank your pink or index finger right open and fuck up the lift.
These are supposed to help my core muscles out to help my squatting..here's hoping.

How humiliating would it be to just finish up a set with that bar and weight...then along comes this guy and he asks you if you are finished with the bar, you say yes ..then he just picks it up with one hand and takes it to another area of the gym.. :-\

If any one would bother to check, quite a few old time strongmen did mid 400's to 500 in regular workouts. Herman Goerner was in the mid 600 lb range I believe. Those were mostly the solid cast iron bars (and thicker gripped) or shot loaded globes on the ends of the lifting bars. Not the best balanced in the world. A guy named Cavattone did 562 one handed last year. Do not know his bwt. Experienced strongmen and trainers seem to agree that a lifter should be ably to almost do (with-in a 100lb or so) an equal amount with one hand as with both hands. Seem logical, seeing as how the arm(s) are gripping and hoiding the DL'ing bar in place while the back and lower body does the actual lifting.

Ive got plenty of power pulling off the floor but at the top when i go to finish the movement my grip is gayer than one of elton johns turds ???

This is Jon Pall one of the great strongmen in the world. Look at 3:41 into the clip he lifts what looks to be 500lbs+ with ease and waves to the crowd.

In all my time training, I've never considered trying to pick up a barbell from the middle and seeing how high I could go - my grip strength is good so next time I'm in the gym (Thursday) I'm gonna try it.

I personally like JPM and his posts but yes, there are peope like this. I had a girl ask me if I could bounce my pecs so I did. An aquaintence at the house said that "back in the day" when he played football and he was in shape he could do it better and that I wasn't doing it that great. I seriously laughed at him and asked "are you serious?"

those are wrist wraps not straps, the loop you see is the loop you put around your thumb to secure the wrap, can't really see a wrap making much of a difference for pulling except giving you a psychological boost of your wrist feeling thicker.

I went to the gym today (probably like most guys here who saw this yesterday) and tried standing up with a dumbell (I know, call me a gimp) no straps and I could do it it grip-wise no problems with a 150 but it is the balance thing that I had the problem with. I realized there is no way I could do it with a barbell with that weight looking like WT: he looks poised enough to eat a cucumber sandwich or change what song to program next. :-[

a dumbbell is a piece of cake next to a 7 foot barbell, i've deadlifted a 200 pound db off the floor easily but i don't think i could do it with a 7 foot bar.

the wrist wraps help keep my wrists locked down tight to keep them from twisting and rotating when attempting that.. trust me.. it's money well spent!
I'm going to try a single arm sumo 315lb dead next week but not suitcase style..just sumo and see if I can pull it off.
