5 years... a little less due to forced lay offs...more like 4....30 now....
One of my biggest regrets is that I didn't start at age 14 or so. I mean, I have shitty genetics but youth would have been on my side and I would have made greater progress. :-\

14 years. Started when I was 14, bought one year membership and have been lifting weights 3-5 days a week since then.

Starting in the mid-twenties is young enough to get most of the potential with the right training and hard work still young it won't make much difference.

Started working with weights at 13.
Started seriously lifting at 14 so roughly 17-18 years.
had bouts of up to 8 months of not lifting, but everytime something bad happens (diabetes, bloodpressure, etc) I hit the weights hard and everything falls back in place.
