Title: The 2008 Arnold Classic - Bodybuilding media history
Post by: 240 is Back on February 28, 2008, 01:28:50 PM
We have Bob and Dan doing the webcast.   We have MD's extensive coverage for MDtv.  We have Big Nation Radio and their fearless style.  Bbing.com has a few guys doing official pregame camera work.  We have a score of roving kids with cameras dying to be the first to get something new on youtube.

The 2008 Arnold Classic and Expo will be the most covered bodybuilding event in history, from an indendent media standpoint.  No one has a monopoly.  No one controls what info comes out of the place.  Should be interesting.

Who do you guys think does the videos the best, BB.com or MD?

PS - MD was mean to Ed in a recent clip.  Could have been funny, but didn't really turn out that way.  :-\

it's nice.  When one company does everything, any "gotcha" or embarassing moments can be stifled.

When you have 5 or more forces filming things, you're going to get the full story.

BB.com will soon own all of bodybuilding.  This is what I'm hoping anyway.

Stop hoping. It won't happen.

Some monopolies I want to see.  A monopoly ran by Ryan Deluca is alright with me!  A system is only as good as its people.  I would rather live in a well run dictatorship than a corrupt democracy.  I am against monopolies but in favour of anything BB.com related.  ;D  I'm gunning to be their #1 partner!

#25, but I'm not shooting for #10 or #4, but straight up #1.  It is realistic that I get there in time.  My website is still one of the biggest content based bodybuilding websites on the net.  Only BB.com I can definitely say is bigger.

My sucking up to Ryan doesn't mean anything anyway.  I don't earn more by doing it, and in fact I only spoke with Ryan briefly through e-mail a couple of times.  I do most of my dealings with Will.  My point is that there are some truly good people and truly good companies out there, and we need to encourage their growth.  In this dog eat dog world, all manner of amoral scum rise to the top in the name of efficiency.  I try to praise all of the good people who make it that far, and BB.com is one of them.  Again, my sucking up gets me nothing.  I sincerely mean what I say here.  I could say Ryan is a dumb fuck and it wouldn't affect my commissions.  Also, I'm happy to live off my website and other web projects and things like that.  I am not a 9-5 type of guy and have managed to earn a comfortable living since 2004.

I can appreciate that you work for yourself. I did it for 6 years and will do it again in the near future.

I was referring to you post about your miserly ways.

Yes, but there is more to it than that...

Let's be honest, we never know what the status of the economic and political world will be next.  I have no idea when Bush's puppeteers will orchestrate the destruction of the US economy and being in Canada, I am very dependent on a successful US economy.  In a time of economic collapse, it's important to have access to resources with inherent value, non-perishable foods for example.  By hoarding money or using it wisely in property investments, I think I stand the best chance of survival in an uncertain future.  I do not expect the economy to suddenly collapse and think that another relatively sound presidential term will take place, but I just don't know...

$50 a day buys me a very healthy and complete diet, life in fair sized home, a fairly new (2004) car, access to everything I want and plenty of time to spend on getbig and get more educated (scholarships cover my school expenses).  Overall, I have a pleasant and simple existence.  That said, I want to make as much money as possible - but I don't think I will ever change my meager lifestyle.  I am very happy to have access to a great deal of money without necessarily spending it on flashy extracurriculars.  A lot of my friends literally do not have enough money to go to the movies.

Is BB.com paying you?

Can it be assumed that a majority of the "thousands and thousands" of articles featured on BB.com were submitted by amateurs for free?

That's a good question.   I am a former BBing.com writer myself, having my column revoked after only 2 days by the "powers that be" because they disliked my creative leasures.  Such is life.

The Arnold rocked. I haven't had a chance to look at any of the content yet but people approached Ron and  I all weekend about the photos n videos on bodybuilding.com.

Wait untill you see the after party photos. One guy offered his girlfriend up to Ron.

BB.com only pays me on a commission basis.  The more supplements I sell on my website, the more commissions I earn.  I don't get paid for praising them in my posts on here.  I only do that because I sincerely mean it.  Speaking of which, people who do like any of my contributions to bodybuilding from my website should consider purchasing supplements off the affiliate links for the reason being that it allows me to continue with my website.  I carefully consider whether or not to purchase off affiliate links, as it does raise the price of goods, but it also supports websites I like.  These things need to be considered of course, but a lot of loyal site visitors routinely click into BB.com through my website because they want me to keep up the work on my website.  BB.com has always been good to me, but they have been that way for others too and I think they deserve all the credit they get.

The majority?  That's hard to say.  There are a lot of articles on BB.com which are less than stellar in terms of quality, but there are a lot which are extremely high quality.  Basically, BB.com is a content monster!   Granted, sometimes you have to sift through the crap.  Check the forum links for each article which offer reviews of the article.

Wait untill you see the after party photos. One guy offered his girlfriend up to Ron.

So they throw in a curveball where you have to sell their supplements in order to get paid!?

So can it be assumed that Ron and Isaac along with a few others are the only ones getting paid for their content on BB.com?

I heard from a very reliable source/BB.com employee that BB.com just lets amateurs come to them and beg them to submit their content with no pay.

Some creative management going on there...

Hehe. History is chock-a-block with dictatorships/autocracies and the one thing they all have in common is that they are poorly 'run.' Hell, the Nazis may have dressed sharply but they were organizational fools.

/time to get that compound of yours up and running matt. if you start now you can have a good perimeter in by summer   ;)

Then why don't you? You'd make more money than your first "sponsorship" for your show.
BODYBUILDING.COM (http://www.tkqlhce.com/en98ft1zt0GJIKNHIOGIHLHQMNI?sid=gbmessage)

I'm pretty sure I made more commission on the first sponsorship than I ever would with your affiliate program. I don't know maybe $10 a month from an affiliate program for you is a lot of money, not for me.

I was in meetings on Friday and Saturday, I caught up with Special Ed at the expo towards the end of Friday and Saturday. I did run into Ron Saturday briefly. I told him to give you my regards.

You're right, you don't have the traffic nor content to make much in an affiliate program. Take notes from MattC and one day you'll make a little more.

I make enough to where I don't have to run around an expo like a dong squeezing Bohemian monkey on crack. You're so big time!
