It should be whatever the economy dictates. If it was $0, there would still be bodybuilders willing to compete. If the business model works, why change it? I would pay less.

I am not certain of the year...but at one of Arnold's Olympia wins, there was NO prize money awarded.

I am not certain of the year...but at one of Arnold's Olympia wins, there was NO prize money awarded.
I'm not sure if it was one of Arnold's win. Larry Scott got a crown for his (the) first Olympia win, but he got no cash.
I do remember where the prize money dropped from $1,000 to $750. But, I forget what years those were.

They should make it five grand to enter and anyone can enter, top ten divvy up the prize money.
Every year a couple of hundred delusionites (Homo Goodrumus) would push up the prize money so they could say they competed against the pros...
It would also allow amateurs to earn their pro cards by placing (say) top twenty against a pro field without all the win the NPC/USA/other-national-championship-twice-and-beg-uncle-Joe bullshit.
