Jesus H. This is going to happen more and more and more.
I've been standing in line, or in a dept. store and wondered if it was just a matter of time before I'd find myself in one of these.

Gunman kills 1, self at fast-food restaurant
Three people in critical condition after West Palm Beach shooting
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A gunman burst into a Wendy’s restaurant at lunchtime on Monday, killing one person and injuring five others before killing himself, officials said.
The gunfire sent customers running from the restaurant. Motorists at the drive-thru window also fled, some leaving their vehicles running.
Palm Beach County sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera said three of the survivors were in critical condition. Two others had minor injuries, including one person who was injured while running away.
“I just saw a lady with a little boy in her arms come running out screaming, ’Somebody’s shooting!”’ said Sandra Jackson, who had been getting gas across the street. The woman said her husband was still inside, said Jackson, 43, of Palm Springs.
Several people were carried away from the restaurant on stretchers. Authorities did not identify the shooter or the victims.
The mayhem unfolded just after noon during the lunch hour rush. Palm Beach County sheriff’s spokesman Paul Miller said the shooter entered the restaurant and went to a restroom before coming out brandishing what appeared to be a 9 mm handgun.
Ashley Milton, 28, said she had just opened the door to get lunch when she heard the “pop pop” of gunfire and saw people running.
“I really didn’t think that’s what it was. I thought this can’t be happening,” she said. “You see your life flash before your eyes.”
The gunman went to the counter, Miller said, shooting a customer before slowly turning to his left and firing on others before shooting himself.
About 10 to 15 people were believed to be in the restaurant at the time of the shooting, Miller said.
Bob Bertini, a Wendy’s Inc. spokesman based in Dublin, Ohio, said the restaurant was cooperating with the sheriff’s office.
“This is a terrible and sad day for our restaurant and for this community. It was a senseless tragedy,” Bertini said.

I know. Big rash of shootings in the last 3 weeks. Campuses, mostly minor. media is leaving it alone for the most part to discourage copycats.
i played a show last night and actually stopped at Wendy's for a chicken sandwich for dinner. And I hate to make this a political argument, but I sure did pack my heat when I went in to order food, as I always do. You never know when some maniac is going to walk in and start blasting. Scary world. You owe it to yourself to protect yourself if your state lets you.

Maybe. Very depressed economy down here. Real estate market is just horrible. In SW Florida, 1 in 79 homes is in foreclosure. Lots of people losing everything overnight from rates alone. Local economy is slumped too.

Well even if you're packing heat, you never know what's coming up behind you. You might never get the chance to draw a weapon. This is a guy in a suit...do you think anyone in there thought "hey, this guy looks like a nut, i wonder if he's got a gun" :-[

i agree completely, I could get my lights knocked out just as easily as the next guy. My point is that it helps your survival chances. This guy hit at least 4 people critically. The moment I saw the gun or hear shot #1, I'm on the floor with my piece out hoping to get a shot before he gets me. I know it's a little paranoid, but you only get one chance at this ride, and there are some messed up people out there. The worse the economy gets, the more of these desperation incidents I'm guessing we'll see :(

you have to get background/fingerprint check, pass a written test, and fire 1 shot supervised. Takes 8 weeks or so for permit to arrive. I've carried for 11 years now.

it's been awhile, maybe 2 years or so, if you want to get some Wendy's you've got to drive over into Illinois across the river, probably a 25-30 minute drive, rumor has it that there's ONE open here in STL but you have to wait in line forever to get anything.

Hell yes. I have a conceal and carry permit and the only time I am not carrying is if I'm in the DC limits or in a government building.
I'd rather have 12 trying me than 6 carrying me.

it's your mentality and the fact that you believe you need weapons on you in everyday life..

I'm not sure how correct this is. I believe statistics show a much greater likelyhood of getting shot if you carry/own a gun than if you don't. I've never had one, but there sure have been times I wished I had.

it's a crazy world here in the US, everyting costs big money and 98 percent of people don't have the money and live paycheck to paycheck with 1500 dollar a month mortgages, 600-700 dollar a month car payments, 2000 dollar TV, credit cards maxed out and are desperate and then they snap one day.

That's understandable, but the gun control laws in the U.S are ridiculous, I could probably get a gun in the States within 48 hours, legally. There's not enough protocol for weapons.

It has less to do with the weapons than it has to do with the psychology. People in the US are attention whores and this is one way to speak up and be heard by that bitch at Walgreens who ignores you when you're nice and say hello, or your family members who belittle you at gatherings.
This is all about making a statement, crying out and getting attention.
See: Britney Spears.

you see it in the workplace, people on edge, they hate their jobs but are so desperate in needing them because if they lose their job they are FUCCKED, no savings and in debt up to the eyeballs, then throw into it the fact that 95 percent of people in this country are on some type of stimulant, ephedrine, caffiene, Rockstar, Monster, Red Bull, etc. and you've got a society of emotionally fragile people.
-
i'll say this, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO USE FOR HANDGUNS OTHER THAN TO KILL PEOPLE, they have no other use.
That is correct, and it's why I own the ones that I do. The people in question would be anyone that threatens my life or the life of my loved ones.
-

He WAS wearing a baseball hat with the suit. Jury's still out on race...

This mini recession isn't helping matters.. Now in addition to depressed young kids, you've got people who've lost their homes, or are in huge amounts of debt. Plus our government is climbing in more and more debt every single second, while the presidential candidates(despite what the fucking media might say) are a fucking joke and do not represent the average American. Congress is ignoring the needs of the ordinary citizen and is choosing to use investigate drug use in sports. They're not doing shit to labor unions in order to make american auto makers more competitive against the Japanese. They're not doing shit about inflation.
America is hell of a lot better than most countries still, but it could be loads better.
-
I think - much of that comes from domestic statistics... takes into account crazy ex's and idiot teenagers.
That could be.
So hypothetically....You're in line at Wendy's. A dude w/ a trucker hat and flannels (Sea Bass) is behind you. Another register opens and Sea Bass slides over, skipping you. Do you say anything?
Let's say you do. Sea Bass then turns and tells you to fuck off or he'll beat you til you look like Betty Pariso. This escalates until it looks like violence is necessary. At what point do you pull the gat, homie?

keeping up with the Jones', they get the Navigator with 23 inch rims and we have to get it, they get the 46" Sony Bravia LCD and we have to get a 52 inch, they have a 3000 sq. ft. house and we have to have a 4000 ft, one, all of a sudden you owe so much money that you'll be paying for 100 years all for shit that isn't even needed anyway, then all of a sudden your boss scolds you for not getting the report turned in on time and it's time to take the hunting rifle into work and blow off some steam.

LOL... I've been hit in the mouth by a kid at the mall when I was 22, shoved by some thug in the movie theater, cornered by some homeless guy years ago, never once pulled it. I'd take an ass kicking before I'd pull it. I know it could be life in prison if I screw up.
I'd let C-bass take my place in line and maybe suggest that he order a salad, and maybe mention that by the look of his wardrobe, he has to get back to the labor pool timeclock pretty soon anyway.. If he chooses to punch me and he has a nice truck, maybe I'll own it in 6 months. Maybe I win, maybe I don't, who knows. If he produces a switchblade, you know what happens.
-
If I could live in a 100% gun-free world, I would LOVE that.
But, it's impossible. If you banned guns tomorrow, there will still be a 50-year period when only the bad guys have them, til they rust or run outta ammo.
Living thru those 50 years sure would suck :(
-
The US is the freest and will stay that way because of our gun freedoms. You hear about all the bad stuff about the US and not the good stuff.
The US is the best place to live in the world. Thats why 20 million try to immigrate here a year! I don't know where Capt Equapoise is from, but if the US wasnt the best place to live, Id leave.

agreed. 2 years ago, two men with guns tried to rob my brother's pharmacy, with a plan to execute the staff after they got the shipmen tof oxycotin. My brother saw their masks and drew his own piece. By the time bad guy #1 drew, he fired once, hitting him in the stomach. bad guy #2 froze up and my brother didn't shoot him in the back as he fled. Bad guy #1 had warrants for attempted murder (firing at a police officer a month earlier) so no gun law would have stopped him, already an illegally armed felon. Gun in the hand of a legal citizen saved the day and his life. Local newspaper actually did a big writeup on it.

Oh shit Rob, not everything is politically driven!
This isn't about politics - the economy is heading into a tight place because of the actions of both parties, as well as many other world factors.
My point is that a guy whose home is in foreclosure, gets laid off, sees his life fall apart is much more likely to take the out route. Crime, suicide, depression all increase when economy tanks.

How 'bout preventing some other jackass with a weapon from killing me?
That's a pretty damn good use if you ask me. And since laws can't guarantee me that some other jackass who desires to kill me can't get his hands on a weapon, be it a gun, a knife, or a club... I'll be damned if the law has any right to deny me that use.

I caught it from when you first posted, rewatched again last week.On another point, Ive never felt any need to keep up with The Jones, I buy what interests me and anything that doesnt Ill buy the cheap shit, you try and compete with others in life your always on a loser, need to buy/do what interests you, not what keeps your ego afloat.

1. That depends on your criteria for what constitutes a good place to live. For you, it might be the best place. For someone else, maybe not.
2. The 20 million are mostly from horribly poor countries south of the border so of course they want to leave. The US is simply the most accessable civilized country.
3. Have you lived for an extended period outside the US? If not, what are you basing your conclusions on? Readily available fast food?
4. There are a lot of shitty places in the world. That doesn't mean the US is the only good place. See below.

I don't need to look it up Goat, I know about Palm Beach (even though you stated West Palm...something about your sister being there or something).
And once again..a townhouse is not an apartment. And there's nothing wrong with living in a working-class neighborhood, if that is what you would like to consider Palm Beach Gardens. It beat's living in Belle Glades.

Hi Bill O' Reilly

I live in south Broward county. We recently had a nasty rash of cops getting shot and killed, as well as a spat of other shootings. Decent folks are leaving, or ponying up the loans and cash to live in gated communities(barricaded fortresses). I carry concealed as well down here. It's goddamned dangerous, but probably not as bad as the Mad Max warzones of Detroit and LA.
I'm a bit tired of people blaming the economy for various killings. It's the asshole's own goddamned fault for getting 30 year adjustable mortgages, grabbing an assload of credit cards, and putting 0-down on their BMWs. Fuck them...let them pay the consequences for their actions.
The instant gratification mindset of the US needs to leave...and fast.
-

In Idaho if you have no record and have hunters safety or any military training you get yours. I am going down to get mine in the next week. Was waiting on a copy of my dd-214. Lost it with all the moving and god knows where my hunters ed shit is from 15 years ago.

The only thing I can think of after reading this latest murder story is why isn't there any emphasis on seriously considering having homicide prevention programs that are geared to make the public aware of people who might demonstrate behavior that could be known as what it means to simply be homicidal. That could make the public safer and more conscious when it comes to dealing with homicide since it should be considered a important criminal epidemic because gambling with innocent people's lives is like it is a game.
