Say what you will, but if you went to the recent Arnold expo, you know just how packed and hard to get around it was. Plus, to get a decent seat you have to purchase and early VIP ticket .
Yes, I had fun at the Arnold, but the crowds make it such a hassle, I don't enjoy the overall experience as much as other pro events.
Many on the boards cracked ad naseum on last years Colorado Pro show and some other events.
For my $$$ it is much better deal to get a good ticket at a fair price and see some top pros on stage without having to fight a million people to get around. Since my older sis lives in Columbus now, I will go to the ASC ,but won't go the expo on saturday due to the packed crowd. I will go BOTH finals (fri and sat) at the Vet theatre however.
I will be going to more IFBB pro events this year, but, the olympia won't be one of them.

He did and I loved the location and time of year for it.
I know Ron likes the big events like the Olympia but I prefer the "other" pro events for the reasons I stated above.

Are you going to start a thread about how you prefer T-Rexes to crocodiles next?

I would assume "getting a decent seat" at a bbing shows involves finding one without semen on it.

No , I was thinking more along the lines of the value of the Donkey vs the Mule.
Seriously, after all the chatter about the densly packed mob at the arnold i figured I would chime in with my 2 cents on the issue.

Why I prefer shows like the Col Pro to the ASC or Olympia
Guaranteed front-row seat for all attendees?

I don't do much actual posting. I just drop by a few times a day to "smite" everyone.

Brutal inability to get back at people IRL and go the internet route to feel better.

Where are the pictures of your wife? ???

The lack of crowds at the Col Pro is not a good thing for the promoters. If you are doing everything right there should be crowds.

The Olympia has the benefit of being in Sin City, not to mention its expo is not nearly as crowded as the Arnold. You're missing out if you're spending money travelling around to second-rate events yet not attending the Olympia.

I've only been to the Arnold and the Mr. Olympia. I opted not to go to the Arnold this year, mainly due to academic obligations, and also because I went last year alone and it was not nearly as good of an experience as it was going to the Mr. Olympia with two friends. I can write off the contests as business expenses so I have no financial reason not to attend contests, and two per year is what I would like to do, but the Arnold is too much of a zoo. The Mr. Olympia on the other hand, is considerably smaller (about 25%) and is in a better venue, better weather, and more bodybuilding oriented, rather than a giant sports festival like the Arnold.
I will go to the Mr. Olympia this year, but only with friends. The Mr. Olympia was a great experience. I agree with Howie on this one about the Arnold being a little too much and maybe I will check out the Ironman each year instead. Perhaps the Canadian Nationals too. I will give it some consideration.

Does anyone go to these contests to meet a Sheila? In the old days there were hardly any gyms and almost no women training. Something not right about muscleheads and the fitness/bb women.
With the webcast TV who needs to attend those contests except to meet people?
-
Hey Howie it was good meeting you at the expo!

The only problem with your thought Howie is you are in the minority. Cause it is obvious no matter how good the show was it made no money (lost a ton), and not enough people like it like you did. And the fact there is no show is the basis of this. The money people like I said from the beginning are not going to stay involved if it loses money. And obviously no other company wants to step forward cause of this fact.

Think about how much money Arnold makes off the expo weekend.
200,000 people over 3 days x $10 per person = $2,000,000
600 booths x $500 per booth spot = $300,000
$2,300,000 just off the expo, which is pocket change to Arnold, but still not bad for 3 days.

The booths are more than that I think and Arnold doesn't get much or any of the money. Lorimar gets most of it. Ands its more like 100,000 people. I went in 2001 and 2002 and they had 90,000 then. The expenses for the show are unreal though. The expo can make money and that one defintiely does. The center also gets a piece of the ticket prices usually. Was the BB show a sellout this year.

Yeh i think the finals bbing show was sold out. And i think its closer to 150,000, the line ups for tickets at the expo were huge! you couldn't even move. I can't believe people waited for an hour in line just to get a $10 expo ticket ???

It is time for change at the Arnold. The crowds have outgrown the current set-up, which has been in place for years. Going to the expo on Saturday is almost impossible, and I'm surprised there isn't a fire marshall shutting it down. Some of the sports in the convention center need to be moved to allow the main expo hall to expand and accommodate the crowd.

Post up a picture of your sister. Was she really one of the women on that HBO special "Hookers at the Point"?

The Arnold is still my favorite. The varieties is what make the even so huge. we already have the Olympia, there is no need to have another show exactly like the O. Yes, the Expo is hugely overcrowded and not many of us like to see somebody breathing in our face, but I guess with 100,000+ people, we expected this kind of thing.

Vegas is a great location overall, but, I think some may be missing my main idea here.
The Col Pro had a great line up on stage without the densly packed mob scene of the ASC expo or Olympia in Vegas.
Denver is a great place to vacation in the summer and one big perk is spending a few days up in the Rocky Mt National Park , 70 miles NW of Denver.
I look at the OVERall experience when I go on a trip , not just one factor.
