Title: Bob Chic's , War For The Worlds DvD
Post by: HowieW on March 07, 2008, 06:00:45 PM
This was Bob's docu-drama of the final 10 weeks leading up to his win at the 2006 IFBB Pro masters worlds. It is a well produced effort and a lot more than diet, sets and reps.
Yes, you get plenty of bodybuilding in the gym and diet info, but the best thing for me was Chic's subtle yet off beat sense of humor and deep passion for bodybuilding.
I cracked up when Bob and his lovely lady Taisha, consult the "Psychic Cat" for a contest prediction.
It was funny as hell when Bob trys to crack up his classic '51 Olds after retro fitting a couple belts and the motor squeals like a piggy LOL. No , I don't want Bob working on my car, thanks  ;)

On serious note, this video gives the viewer a good look at the mindset and sensible training lifestyle that is rare in modern bodybuilding circles.  It is more like a week by week bodybuilder sit com than a training video. I really enjoyed it.
No, I don't work for Bob Chic or bodybuilding.com  hehehe.

Bob's World Class physique DVD is pretty good too.  Bob is in good shape in it.  Not sure how much gas Bob would have to use to sustain that type of physique, but probably a fairly large amount (at least over and above a healthful HRT dose).  He had good size and demonstrated the various exercises well with good commentary.

Chic did look impressive as he closed in to peak shape, I agree. I think he didn't use an extreme amount of extra supplements however, just my hunch.  Howard

I would say he was still probably 250 at his height.  Not exactly small, nor was he exactly fat, but who knows.

Yeah, it was a good DVD. Too bad bodybuilding.com doesn't have a run like that with another pro.

Jay's latest DVD is similar to Bob's war for the worlds, but is more into the diet and training details and less into humor like Bob Chic. Jay has his own unique style and is one of those intelligent, sensible pro bodybuilders. I doubt too many pros could pull off a funny lifestyle video like Bob Chic without being a total bore.

why would Bob ever step on the stage again?

seriously....

he's the only pro bodybuilder that stays juiced all the time but does not step on the stage to lose money when he can be a commentator.

He's pretty smart actually.

Bob is a smart guy and I doubt he is as juiced as you think. I supect he uses a moderate doseage of basic AAS and some HGH, no more , no less. Of course drugs are everything....not!

If he became 100% off....he would be about 190lbs

I seriously doubt that. The guy has big frame and built a ton of muscle over many yrs, etc.
he would drop some size, no question, but you guys give too much credit to the juice.
If the juce made everyone a monster, where are the 100's of bodybuilders as massive as Jay or Ronnie?

I would say...pound for pound....Michael Francois was a better body builder than Bob

Look at him now

I would say...pound for pound....Michael Francois was a better body builder than Bob

Look at him now

Mike won the Arnold and was in his prime a better rated pro than Bob ever was, no question.
However, Mike F had some major intestinal issues , was quite ill and required extensive surgery, etc.
You really can't compare that to some bodybuilder that eases back on the juice over time.
Do drugs make a difference? Doah...of course they do. But they are NOT the end all be all for building a great physique, they do tend to make a great physique look freakish and that is something I am NOT for.
Pick out 100 rugged , strong , age 20's guys from various gyms. Have them train hard for a few years, diet and take a good helping of juice and see what happens. Sure they will get a lot bigger and more muscular but how many will look like Dexter, Jay or Heath? No too many. THAT is my point.
So long as the magic cycle to the pros exist, the juice will get sold on the blackmarket and the legal magic supplements will be sold by the millions. It is a myth and something I don't buy into.

Sure Bob got lazy as a bodybuilder...But with the width that he holds and will almost always hold, he does not have to do what others have to hold on to what they have...

Bottom line is Bob is as wide as a country mile...And if you don't have width, you don't have much

Chick was 198 pounds in the drug tested year in 1990 in contest shape, so natural with some HRT he would easly be 250 at 15%

Chick looks wider than all the pro's he interviews for bb.com... he's a big dude and probably always will be. Same goes for anyone with a big structure.

He has an article where he talks about the importance of building a good base and why alot of guys lose big amounts after they juice, and if you build a good base you don't lose drastic amounts like that. Of course everyone will lose some, otherwise the drugs would be ineffective.

I think he trained until 22 as a natural and by that time he had a good base because he started early.

Oh and LOL! to the guy that is comparing Mike Francois' size loss to how small Chick will get. Francois was sick and doesn't even train, Chick still trains and eats a lot i'm guessing.

RIGHT ON THE MONEY, BRO...

I get a kick out of these fools pointing out retired pro BBers and how much they've shrunk down in size, etc.   Take a look at almost any ex-athlete...of course they're down in muscl, etc...they don't train like they did when thy were at the top of their game and competing, especially Pro BBers given the fact that were at the top of the "extreme" as we BUILD muscle for our sport...

Drugs are merely ONE part of the equation, food intake and training (or lack there-of), age, injuries, etc. ALL contribute....

I think some here have no idea how young you were when you started,I believe you did your first show at age15?
Plus, it took 13 hard working years of national shows in the NPC to turn pro.

Bob, you need to get the "psychic cat" on Santa Monica Blvd to do an interview on Pro BB weekly. :o

Question is....why do YOU seem to are so much?

Bob is around 42 and may not compete again. His last show was the masters worlds which he won in 2006.
Maybe if Bob takes up running marathons he will then be a lot smaller.

Mike F- already told you, he was very ill and had major intestinal surgery.
Tom Prince- had major health issues and was hospitalized , I belive he had kidney troubles and variety of other issues that almost caused his death from drastic drug abuse of various things.

Bob Paris- If you read his book "Gorilla Suit" you would realize he wanted scale down for health and appearence reasons. Bob is middle aged now, very fit and involved in other fields now.

Look, this is like having some retired NFL player be judged by how he can still run block or tackle years after he takes off the pads.

Drugs are merely ONE part of the equation, food intake and training (or lack there-of) . . . ALL contribute....

Drugs may be "merely ONE part" of the equation, but ummm they're kind of a BIG part don't ya think?  Or are you telling us that they're more just a finishing touch?

Take any pro . . . Kevin Levrone for example . . . and if he trains just as consistently when he's "off" (as compare to when he's "on") and if he is just as meticulous with his diet when he's "off" (as compared to when he's "on"), his natural physique will look nothin like his juiced physique.  The differences in his physique will be like night and day.  So to say that drugs (or response to drugs) is "merely ONE part of the equation" is to downplay the role that drugs play in creating the chemical monsters that compete on stage.

I loved the series.  The only thing missing - and perhaps justly so, was about his supplementation.
He went into detail on preparing his breakfast, then he simply summarizes is morning:
1.) Cardio's done
2.) Breakfast done
3.) Supplements Taken. He didn't have to share EVERYTHING,but it would have been nice to name a few.  I know in an earlier vid, he introduced us to a guy from one of the supplement labs who prepares personalized stuff for him. Perhaps that's what he meant.

Anyway, again, great vids Bob:

1.) Did you ever get that car fixed?
2.) Did the 72 year old former playmate ever cover up? - Best part of the series is when her
daughter told you not to tell anyone that that was her mother, and you basically said your
secret is safe with me, then looked at the camera with that look.  ROTFL funny!  ;D
3.) Did you ever burn any of those videos to DVD?  You may want to as you have a lot of precious personal video, and I'd hate for your VHS player to one day get hungry and start chomping on them, as has I'm sure happened to many of us in the past, plus VHS does degrade over time.

ODE TO KNNY:

Back when I was a kid, life was going swell.
Till something happened, blew every thing to hell.
That night my daddy stumbled in, all pale and weak,
Said, "A woman up the block just gave birth to a geek."

Mom said, "Sell it to the circus, what the heck."
Dad said, "Nope, this one's a pencil neck.
And if there's one thing lower than a side show freak,
It's a grit eatin', scum suckin', pencil neck geek."

You see if you take a pencil that won't hold lead,
Looks like a pipe cleaner attached to a head,
Add a buggy whip body with a brain that leaks,
You got yourself a grit eatin', pencil neck geek.

(chorus)
Pencil neck geek, grit eatin' freak,
scum suckin', pea head with a lousy physique.
He's a one man, no gut, losing streak.
Nothin' but a pencil neck geek.

Soon the geeks were poppin' up all over town.
You couldn't hardly sneeze without knockin' one down.
After a nice juicy steak, if you need a toothpick,
Just reach for a geek, they'll do the trick.

One day we cut one up for fish bait.
Learned our lesson just a little bit late.
Soon as the geek hit the drink, the water turned red.
Next day, sure enough, all the fish were dead.

chorus

Most any night you know where I can be found.
Yeah, stomping some geek's head into the ground.
So keep the faith, 'cause in Blassie you can trust,
I won't give up 'til the last geek bites the dust.

chorus

They say these geeks come a dime a dozen.
I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes.
Its gonna be real hard times for all of these
grit eatin',
scum suckin',
boot lickin',
drop kickin',
gut grindin',
nail bitin',
glue sniffin',
scab pickin',
butt scratchin',
egg hatchin',
sleazy,
smelly,
pepper bellied,
dirty, lousy, rotten, stinkin', freaks.
Nothing but a pencil neck geek.

Pencil neck geek.
Pencil neck geek.
Pencil neck geek.

Bob,

I'd be very interested to know just how much of a "base" you managed to build naturally before you decided to take things up a level.

I'm a lifetime natural who's always been pretty chubby (~25% bf), and now that I'm finally dieting down there's a lot MORE muscle on the bones than I thought there'd be (I'm 210 @ 17% right now).

Could you let me know how much muscle you managed to build naturally?... I don't think there's any point asking any of the other pros as I doubt any of them trained naturally long enough to reach there supposed natural limit.

What was your:
-heaviest natural contest weight?
-heaviest natural off-season weight? (and approx bf%)

This may also help to answer the questions regarding how much mass a retired (?) pro such as yourself can retain when off the juice... (I'm not hijacking the thread)

The Luke

I trained from 13-22 naturally.

I competed in the 1990 Nationals at a bodyweight of 198 lbs....clean and tested. (and no, I wasn't taking GH, etc...)

Don't know how far I could have maintained naturally, I suppose in the low 200's (contest weight)...

I was only in the 230 range at my heaviest when natural...BF...I'll guess at 10-12 % as I was pretty lean, and had to build UP from a wirey kid..

Fuck off already... you've contributed nothing to the thread. Are you simply jealous of Bob because he's got 100lbs on you? Anyone that's been named that has shrunk down is because they stopped training altogether and don't eat half what they would have to.

Tom Prince- Can't even eat 120g of protein a day because of his health problems. I also doubt he trains much, but if he was able to train and diet 100% i'm sure he would, but he doesn't have that option.

Mike Francois- Got ill, lost size. He doesn't eat much now or train at all because he doesn't have an interest anymore, which is cool. He's got no interest, he didn't even know who the current Mr.Olympia was until he was going to the ASC this year.

Kevin Levrone- Lost size intentionally for acting jobs. When Kevin takes time off, it's completely off. He's said he gives his body a complete break from the cardio, weight training and diet.

If these guys go from eating 6,000-8,000 calories a day when they were at their biggest and now only eat 2500, wtf do you think is gonna happen? If you were to look at retired guys that are natural but still train, you'll see they still have alot of size and quality muscle. Look at Rich Gaspari, Lee Labrada, Bob Chick, Charles Glass, Lee Haney, Larry Scott, Robbie Robinson, Bill Grant. These are all guys that still love to train and probably always will.

 ;)

wow.

i just recently joined this site, and have been posting over at bb.com for quite some time now.

i can't get over how much sh*t people talk on bob over here.  it is ridiculous.  i really dont understand how anyone can have any beef with the guy, unless its something personal.

bob has been awesome for this sport.  he kicked ass as a pro, and now does more for the advancement and marketing of sport that any other pro in history, imo, that includes arnold.  look at the success of pro bbing weekly and the fit show.  he does an awesome job with that and i give him mad props.

additionally, he still looks pretty damn good, and its quite evident he still trains and eats right.

again, no idea whats with all the sh*t talking, aside from just pure jealousy.
