Could improper injections into the lateral upper thigh and glutes cause damage or pain to the IT band that runs from the lateral upper hip area to the lateral knee.
I have modeled my injection sites after some on the net, steroidlogy, etc. but was wondering if there is a layman's way to always inject in the right place, especially the glutes. They say to quarter the side of the glute and use the upper lateral portion to inject.

Upper outer glute. Its not that scientific.

for glutes just divide the glute into 4 squares (2x2), and inject in the upper outer quadrant

Thanks for all the advice. I went to arnolds suggested web site and just copied the area's I want to inject. I actually like the delts and tri's better than glutes and quads but I know I have to switch them around especially since I am using prop.

Like Trab said, put your hand to your side like you were wearing a holster. Flex your butt cheek and you should feel that muscle just to the back side of your hip poke out like a ball. You can hit that straight in from the side. I use this all the time and it works very well.

Poor trab...where has thou gone?

Yeah no shit I miss Trab!

As others have stated, upper outer thigh........always.
The further down and inside you go, the higher your chance of hitting veins, nerves and the IT band.
Of course, if you do hit the IT band you will surely know it before you penetrate it.......

what do you think is worse, hitting IT band or sciatic nerve?

Quad injections can be pretty painful after awhile. I suggest using a 25 gauge needle with a 1 inch tip.
