China hits back at US on rights
The US said China had not undertaken democratic reform, China has accused the US of double standards over human rights in response to an official US report which labelled Beijing an authoritarian regime. Beijing calls Washington's rights record "tattered and shocking".
The Chinese report cites rising violent crime in the US as posing a serious threat to the lives, liberty and personal security of its people.
The foreign ministry said the US should stop posing as a rights watchdog and concentrate on its own problems.
"Stop exercising double standards on human rights issues and wrongly meddling in the internal affairs of other countries," said ministry spokesman Qin Gang.
He added that China's achievements on human rights had been "widely recognised by the international community".
The Chinese report accuses the US of arrogance and is particuarly scathing about the Iraq conflict.
"The invasion of Iraq by US troops has produced the biggest human rights tragedy and the greatest humanitarian disaster in modern world," the document said.
Beijing's report, gathered from US and international news sources, quotes crime statistics and cites particular incidents such as the Virginia Tech massacre to back up its claims.
The report comes in response to the US State Department's annual survey of human rights across the world.
Although the report accuses China of denying its people basic freedoms, the country is not listed as one of the world's most systematic rights violators.
When ya got China calling you the producer of the biggest human rights tragedy than you know the worlds gone for a loop.

When China stops running people over with tanks or executing people for embezzlement then maybe they can start talking about human rights.
Until, then all this is political blabber...

Right now, they need us as much as we need them. If the US economy goes in the tank, the Chinese producers of all those goods we're buying follow right behind. The best strategy for them is to keep the status quo going while they slowly transfer wealth out of the US and into China over decades.

Correct. When you owe the bank $10,000... they own you.
When you owe the bank $10 million, you own them.

You guys overestimate the situation. Unlike us, China has 1.7 trillion in "CASH" reserves, We have negative 12 trillion. They may call in on their money by accepting more land and property or just eat it. They hold the cards and could even stop the 12 million dollars a day were borrowing and destroy us in a matter of minutes, finacially.
Also, with inflation rising we are buying less and less each day..(Including from china) this is pissing them off also as the dollars they borrow us are losing value by the minute.
Indeed, they may be getting NO RETURN on their money in a few days. For gawds sake even the interest on the loans they made to us, we are recieving from them....

I disagree. They do not need us in anyway. They are a nation that produces, they work hard and they save.
They are self sustaining like we were shortly after WWII
