Title: Chuck Liddell: Fedor Emelianenko is overrated
Post by: Bluto on March 23, 2008, 08:09:30 AM
“I truly believe [Fedor Emelianenko is] overrated. I’ve heard he picks and chooses some of his fights. You’ve got to wonder why he chose to fight a guy like Matt Lindland –- who weighs 185lbs! I heard he was negotiating with some other people who were heavyweights who would have been more of a challenge to him and he turned those down. He doesn’t have a great shot, he doesn’t have one punch power and to my knowledge he’s never knocked anyone out from his feet standing up. So I think anybody that can stop a takedown is going to be a good fight for him if they can strike.”

He's obviously overrated, half on the internet thinks he is the second coming. Question is how over rated is he?

man, its already difficult to see people say stupid things on the web and such, but its something you can understand...but a professional fighter as he is, HAVE to think twice before saying things like that...

why the fuck dont he challenges Fedor then if its so easy????

I think it's kind of chicken shit for a guy in one weight division to be rippin on another guy that's in another weight division knowing that he'll never have to face him...

everyones entitled to their opinion but factor in the fact that liddel is dana's little pet and chucks view of anyone outside of (and threatening to) the UFC is meaningless

Chuck calling somebody else overrated.

Gotto love the irony.

As long as he's getting 500k/fight he'll say whatever Dana tells him to.

Fedor is simply the best...

He should prove it in the UFC then.....

Which has a vastly improved heavyweight division in the last year.

how did chuck do against rampage? oh yeah he got embarrased twice

how on earth does a guy who couldn't outstrike the "dean of mean" talk shit about the great Fedor? ???

Matt Linland weighed 213 when he fought Fedor.

yeah, improved with a lot of ex-Pride guys who Fedor already beat, some of them, more than once...

Fedor is no doubt awesome. In Pride.

I'd still like to see how good he would do in a cage.

Yeah, with the guy holding the belt already having been completely DESTROYED by Fedor three times already. What would fighting the UFC prove? That he can beat guys that aren't even in his league? Tim Sylvia is arguably the #2 fighter in the UFC HW division. What a crock.

I would say Nog is in his league, but in reality, he's not. The destructions at the hands of Fedor prove it.

The only guy capable of beating Fedor right now is most likely Barnett, and he's not in the UFC.

He probably makes a shit load more money in Pride anyway.

Dana White would probably offer peanuts compared to what he makes per fight.

Still would love to see Couture fight Fedor.

not sure that it ever was,but the more time pass's the more the ship has sailed on randy's chance to even be physically competitive with fedor.....

for me the interest in seeing Couture and Fedor faded a couple months ago

This Randy hype is so old. The guy beat Tim Sylvia and an incredibly overrated Gonzaga and got wrecked by Liddell before that. Why is there any reason to think that he's in Fedor's league? It just goes to show how terrible the UFC HW division is when beating Tim Sylvia warrants a top 3 HW ranking.  :-\

The Randy hype is definatley old. At 44 years old, probably not a good idea to step into the ring with a much younger, in his prime Fedor.

But on ground and pound skills alone, those two would throw up counter after counter move unil Fedor's youth and stamina took over.

Its becoming like boxing because of political shit, look at all the big fights in boxing that never happened or happened far to late (lewis - Tyson), this is whats happening with MMA now

the difference is that, with boxing, you had big names that drew huge box office on their own, whereas a lot of dana's money is made on the cards he puts together. guys like chuck and randy will pull crowds on their own but no one is going to pay big dollars to watch chuck beat up joe hillbilly smith like they would have for a tyson display.

the problem is, guys like sylvia and tito have bought into the hype and want to be paid big just for showing up like tyson was. unfortunately, the reality is that without dana hyping the shit out of them, guys like sylvia won't draw flies (who wants to see tim box a boring shutout on a tomato can?). so these guys say, 'fuck you dana, you don't appreciate me.' and run along to another fed, only to find out that, without the hype, they were nothing to start with.

as the prestige of mma goes up, more and more guys are going to branch out on their own with their own teams and thus price themselves out of fights that the public want to see.

mma fans have enjoyed top fighters fighting each other in the past because 1. there were less federations and 2. there were no big names. fighters had to fight each other or they didn't make any money (much like boxing used to be many years ago).
