Brew crew b4 the Cubs
I was gonna go that way, but in the end i think the Cubs have a better staff and that will give them the edge IMO. The brewers have a great line up, better than the Cubs i think. But Sheets can't stay healthy and Gagne is abig question mark. If they get consistant pitching then the Brewers should win the division.

Jeez the AL is friggin stacked this year :o

Actually, it looks like the Tigers starting pitching might be their problem.

Verlander is a stud and might win 20 games. I don't think Willis will ever regain the form he had earlier in his career, but he could be a 2 or 3 starter. After that there is questions.

Agreed on Verlander, and Willis is a wild card. He had a great '05, decent '06, but was poop in '07. If he reverts back to at least his '06 form, that puts him just above average. If he reverts back to '05, then he's a stud again.

My picks would be
AL East Yankees
AL Central Indians
AL West Angles
Wild Card Blue Jays
NL East Mets
NL Central Cubs
NL West D backs
Wild Card Braves
world series Yankees over D backs

If they can stay healthy, the Blue Jays are a dangerous team.

The teams should all be withing 3 games or so of each other, so any one of them could easily drop off the list.

The sox will struggle a bit over the first month due to the trip to Japan. They will hit there stride and get stronger at the close of the season to win the division again.
-
AL East - Yanks. Sox finish third and Red Sox nation collectively drowns themselves off the coast of Cape Cod.

I think the Yankees have improved upon a team that missed by two games last year, whereas the sox basically stayed the same minus their #2-3 starter. Fluke injuries notwithstanding, if Kennedy and Hughes are servicable, they should make the playoffs.
As for your team - I have no idea why they would name Ellsbury the starting CF, then sit him in GAME TWO for Coco, especially when Crisp could have easily played one night in RF since Drew's hurt again.

Giving him playing time to drive up his stock. The japan trip was a major drain / distraction, it's all hands on deck until everyone gets back in to the swing of things IMO.

Good answer dude. Makes sense - I didn't think of the showcasing angle.

Agree the Red Soxs will strugle for the first mouth of the seasion I hope the Yankees win it all this year.

The Yankees are projected through PECOTA to have a 30% chance to score 1000 runs. The next closest teams are tied at 2%. The offense looks very good. I give credit to Girardi for calling all players' agents in the offseason and telling them that they'd better report to camp in shape. This seemed to have impacts ons Giambi and Abreu and Damon healthwise, although Damon's spring hasn't been special.
They won 94 games with a staff that averaged 4 2/3 innings and had a ridiculous amount of injuries in the beginning. They were easily the best team in baseball over the last 120 games.
They have greatly improved the bench, and the bullpen looks to be solidified from the mess it was last year.
If healthy, they should have no excuse for not making the playoffs.

Girardi was a great choice to manage the Yanks..he did a great job down here with the Marlins..he and the front office butted heads though...will be interesting to see how off the field relations will be dealing with front office things... 8)

President Bush will throw out the 1st pitch tonight in Washington...it won't be to catcher Paul LoDuca though, but to one of the coaches ..I think..This is due to LoDuca being named in the Mitchell Report..OH SHITE!!

Speaking of Verlander, I was at his no hitter last year. Absolutly amazing.

The more i think about I don't like the Tigers. Don't get me wrong, they have an incredible lineup. After Verlander they have a huge drop in the rotation and the bullpen is shaky at best. Pitching wins titles and right now Detroit doesn't have it. Cleveland is the team to beat in the AL right now.

I agree. There's been a number of us at my home site that think Detroit's overrated. Their starting pitching is completely suspect after Verlander, and their closer sucks.
If they get to the playoffs, it's anyone's game, but it should be a fight to get there.

I hate to say it but you may be right. Unless something crazy happens the pitching or lack of will sink them.

Mass04, Rimbaud, and Grape Ape looking smart right now in terms of Detroit. Let's see if it holds up.

damn tey got smoked last night

I was down at the Marlins game Sat. night vs. Pirates...Jacobs hit a granny to seal the deal..Hanley Ramirez is as good as advertised..that guy can really do it all..3rd base is , of course, a concern..with Cabrera gone..Jorge Cantu started at 3rd Sat and he fckin sucks..I don't know how in the hell this guy is in the big leagues...the next day they acquired Wes Helms..thank god...I'm guessing he's there to play 3rd base..u guys been to any games yet???
-
Hanley is a stud. Another great young player the Marlins have acquired. They have an incredible eye for talent. 2 championships in the last 10 seasons is pretty good for a team that stopped spending money and includes the disgracefull sell off of a championship team by Huizenga. I really wish Cleveland won it that year.
-

I was there...I ended up leaving in the 6th inning. I've been to about 30 games since the start of 2007 & that was only the second I left early (I was sick at the other one).

Sad to say, he'll probably be another great player they trade away or leaves.

I know--shut up! :)
The O's do this every year. Come out of the gate strong, show their true colors, and then falter come summer time.
They are winning 6-0 over Texas right now though. ;D

Beckett, Penny, Pavano, Burnett, Willis, Cabrera, and soon, Hanley. You must enjoy pain. At least Pavano and Burnett are pretty much always injured.

Yeah but at least you have 2 championships in the last decade. That's 2 more titles than 75% of the MLB teams have in that same period.
You have a hell of a scouting team working for the Marlins. Still don't understand why they traded Cabrera. Guy's not even 25 years old yet.
-

His would have been awarded a salary in arbitration that was probably 60-70% of their total payroll. Plus, they were able rid themselves of Willis in the process.

Cabrera put on about 50 lbs. in the past 2 years hangin in Little Havana........not to mention the HGH!!!!! I could see this guy looking like Cecil Fielder in a few years... :o
-
No team has ever started 0-7 and made the playoffs.....hmm..I may wanna change my prediction about the Tigers!! ;D

Yeah, he is turning into a porker. What's up with the weight gain? It's not all muscle either.
He'll become a liability defensively if he keeps it up. Strictly DH'ing in a few years.

I'd would've rather the Tiger's got some decent relief pitching then him.

Cabrera can def hit a damn baseball...not even a question about that..he will put up BIG #'s at the plate and always will...he's lazy as hell at 3rd base though..I saw that your Tigers finally decided to win a ballgame! 8)

No shit.
-
Now don't get me wrong I know Cabrera can hit but they proved they could win without him - they could've kept Inge at 3rd & used the cash for some quality much needed pitching.
-

Cabrera's one of the top 5 hitters in the game at age 24. The numbers he's put up at ages 21 - 23 are sickening. It doesn't happen that way. His only enemy is the burrito. If he can defeat that, he's an ARod type hitter.

what happens with Inge when Granderson returns? Inge is a really good ballplayer and def needs to be in the lineup everyday

Inge will remain the utility player. One possibility is to put him in left field.

If by "is a really good baseball player" you mean he totally sucks, then you're right on the money. Inge is bad. His OBP the last three years is mid-low/low .300s. He slugs in the mid/low .400s and slugged UNDER .400 in his last full season. 04-07 were the years he played full time and he approached league average twice, and was way under the other two years.

No, just the most important thing.
Yes, Brandon Inge is a good defender, possibly one of the best in the A.L. But that defense doesn't prevent enough runs to offset his putrid offense. Please don't try to make the unquantifiable "intangibles" argument that most people try to when defending shitty ballplayers.
Brandon Inge is an out machine, has low OPB, SLG, etc. In his last full season, he k'd 150 times compared to 120 hits.
He's just really bad. Now, a team with the Tiger's offense should be able to handle someone as bad as Inge, but then Cabrera would have to be put elsewhere.
-
I'd still take Inge over a lot of other ballplayers...anyways, "Grape" , where r u from..who's ur team? .....I'd take Inge on the Marlins any day!!! 8)

Listen to this combo - I live in Massachusetts and love the Yankees more than any team in history.
I do like baseball in general, though, and try to follow other teams besides these two. It's good to get other fans' perspectives on things - like yours.
I've always admired the Marlins for their ability to scout talent. I HATED them after they were dismantled '98, but that was all directed at their owner. I'm still amazed by the staff they would have if they had an owner who had cash.
-
Marlins off to a HOT start...chance to sweep the Braves tonite..however, they are facing Smoltz tonite..they can def hit the ball..Jacobs is off to a strong start and Hanley is amazing..I could see this guy winning a MVP in the near future..this stretch is the longest the fish have held a division lead since '04...haha hope I can say the same in Sept/Oct...I know, I know..... 8) Anyone follow Josh Hamilton..I hope he stays on track...he almost threw his entire career away..that would have been a shame..he can really play the game ...I don't think the Rangers are coming to south Fla. anytime soon

From a Fantasy BB perspective, I have Smoltz, so I'm hoping your team gets shut down. As far as Hamilton's concerned, I was able to steal him very late in the draft as my fourth OF. So far, soooooooo good.
-
Oh well, 2 outta 3 aint bad..we'll take it...the Braves hit the hell out of the ball and the Marlins bats were ice3 cold last night
-
Inge is the man at third base. He can throw someone out on his knees from third. So what if he'll only hit 230? I actually like Cabrera at first & Inge at third (Tiger's have done it a few times late in the game). I know they've got Gullien.
-
Well, I'm in as much disbelief as anyone about the Marlins HOT start...I know..It's a L O N G season! Hanley signed a deal that will hopefully keep him around for a while..Uggla can hit with anybody but he's a horseshit 2nd baseman..Lets Go MARLINS!!!!! 8)
