Stepping forward and back to where I started. When I do them walking my knees hurt.
-
lunges are great but i have a hard time fitting them in my routine
-
One of the very best quad/glute exercises there is. i do them after squats.
Try pausing at the bottom, makes them much more effective.

If you like these try step ups with a barbell on your back.
-
Do one leg at a time with the lead foot on a small platform..............12-15 reps per leg,3-4 sets after squats or leg presses.
Very good exercise that I used to think was just for women.
Try Walking DB Lunges too.................very humbling and you`ll be as sore as hell for a couple of days.

A lot of guys think that. ::) I've seen MAYBE 3 guys at my gym doing them.

It's good, should definitely incorporate unilateral leg exercises in your routine like Db Lunges, Barbell Lunges, Bulgarian Split Squats, Step ups, etc.
-
I do walking db lunges as well when i train legs. The next day I am sore as hell including by glutates or case of TAS meaning tight ass syndrome.
-
As JPM and The Coach have said to me, single leg work makes you more functional and will improve your squat.
-
I do reverse lunges with dumbells sometimes
I do this when my back is sore from squats.
I definitely think they have their place.
-
awesome exercise.

Try pushing off your ankle, rather than your toes. This will help you use your quad more than your glutes.
I love BB Lunges, done up to 225 for 6-8 reps. I mainly prefer using a BB, but I've done DB's too.
If I can find the room in a gym, I will do walking lunges a la Ronnie. This is the best version that I prefer, though getting the BB on and off your shoulders can be challenging if you even have the room to do it. Squat racks are great in this case.... :P
