Underrated. Should have won in 81. Franco was not even close, it was so ridiculous. They should have replaced the judges and put a pannel of blind guys with guide dogs, it would have been less of an embarassment.

81 was the worst decision ever. Platz, Callender, Padilla, and I will even say Dickerson (although I can't see him ever winning either) all should have placed ahead of Franco. He was the only legless Mr. O...and with horrid Gyno to boot. Its very hard to find pics from that show and I think video is non-existant.

Is this the pic? The year where Franco won the Olympia in 81'?
I remember he had a bad gyno and smallish legs due to a broken leg from the previous year when he took part in some strongman comp, carrying a 500lb fridge while running.

Yes. Thanks...that is it. The injury was stained while carrying and running with a fridge strapped to his back during the 'World's Strongest Man' competition. I have read that he won a 1 million dollar suit as a result of his injuries.

Great link, thanks. Callender looked great also. Him, Platz or Padilla. This just confirms Franco looked like shit. His legs are a disgrace, the worst thing since...well, the '80 Olympia and Arnold's own chicken legs.

I assume this guy didn't do better because he is tiny, but he seems to have an awsome structure, look at his lines compared to Franco, not even close. I think he may be one of the most underrated over looked guys out there.

Yesterday, on Danny's birthday, photographer Ed Taylor sent him another previously unpublished photo that he shot at the 1981 Mr. Olympia contest.

It is, in my humble opinion, an insanely impressive most muscular pose.

You can see it about half way down the page at:

The best short bodybuilder ever. Should have won the 1981 Mr. Olympia.

Happy Birthday.

That's what I'm saying!  >:(

But when the promoter happens to be your best friend, is it no surprise Franco won?
