Wouldn't you rather look like this?? CLASSIC

One of my goals - don't dig the throbbing penis look of today, though sometimes it's impressive.

he looks hundred times better then our current mr olympia.

AGREED. To look human is SO much more appealing to ALL.

this thread is totally unnecessary if you have musclephone.

how much did he weigh back then?
-
sure, reeves had a great physique and this pose suited him very well. if the judges went back to judging physiques that were standard in the 1950s, a top natty bber could be mr olympia.
the way bbing is, - bigger is better. we've moved on in terms of what is possible muscle-wise and condition-wise, which is y guys who look like Reeves did would place dead last. maybe its a sad fact, but i think a more dexter jackson type of physique is what the ideal should be for this day and age.

Not sure - Prob around the 205/210 mark, BUT does it matter? Bodybuilding is visual.
-
Om quite sure almost everyone can look like that just by a few years naturally in the gym..
Or maby 1 year with a little cycle.

"Spinnis" looked like Reeves before he even touched weights, and like arnold after one year training.
Next summer he's gonna do his first cycle and then take the O in autumn. ::)

he looked good, strong too, i heard he could flat press a pair of 80's.

Are you talking about dumbbell benchpress ?

I watched a big german sheppard take a huge dump in my neighbor's yard yesterday....I laughed for ten minutes.

they were very shaky reps, but impressive nonetheless . . .

is your neighbor the type of guy who wouldn't like such surprise fertilization?

He's a good guy.....his Mustang gets loud late a night, but I ain't mad a man in love with his musclecar. The dogshit made for good beer conversation.

What excersise are u talking about ?
-
That look would be great. There truly is no need for anything more.
That build is:
-Liked by ALL women
-Works perfectly with suits & all clothing (I've yet to see a Pro bodybuilder that doesn't wear tailored clothing or the classic windbreakers with a big white T-shirt)
-Not scene as a freak of nature
-Healthy
What bodybuilding should truly be,

Did he have any sheep with him, or a dog?

trev, u fail to realise that although reeves has a perfect physique for attracting women, it's nothing special on even an amateur bbing stage. he lacks cuts and size. if this was a show judged on who could be the most artistic with their physique, or who has the most aesthetic physique, guys like reeves, arnold and co. would clean house with most guys from today. but thats not the case.

You're missing the point. I'm not talking about modern competition, I'm talking about The Bodybuilding Lifestyle - IF you don't stand a chance of making a fantastic living from Pro Bodybuilding, why would you risk your life to try and achieve the modern pro look. They look disgusting. SO, I'm saying shouldn't us "Lifestyle Bodybuilders" should for the Greek Ideals demonstrated by Reeves, Nubret, Zane?
-
well, it comes down to what ur building your body for. women? to be the big man on campus? functional strength with a little muscle on the side? big big, but no intention to diet down to comp size?
everyone has different goals. the ideal to one might not be idea to another.

Wow, we have an Aristoteles among us. ::) ::)

Indeed. If you have plans to compete at National Level and beyond, you will indeed NEED to shoot beyond this ideal. In today's world, I can't for the life of me see why anyone would want to risk their life to stand up on stage and flex for a bunch of pencil neck judges who will judge more on who pays their wages than what they are looking at.

can you explain this bolded part a bit more?
what are they doing that is risking their life moreso than those who shoot for the Greek ideal?

DRUGS Mate. NOBODY can place high even at National level without taking life risking drugs any more.

that's what weight classes are for. as for the drugs, i very much doubt theyre as life threatening as u think. only in the doses that are needed to maintain a heavy/super heavyweight physique. there are guys that have been using for years in their youth and even today, that have lived to an old age. zane, oliva, schwarzy, pearl, park, scott, robinson, and theyre just some of the top level guys that come to mind.
-
He looks great but it's a big minus that he never rolled his trunks into the crack of his ass and showed us them glutes - that would have got some serious cheers.
-

even though you're joking...reeves was actually pretty strong

You've just named guys from YESTERYEAR!!!!!! Ive already stated, I am talking about TODAY, bodybuilding 2008. Don't be deluded.

yes, the drugs are different and there's more out there, but i don't see how it's anymore dangerous than yesteryear's drugs, provided they're using similar doses and similar drugs (dianabol, deca, test, etc).
guys like sergio oliva, arnold, robby robinson, lou ferrigno - they're the size of middle to heavyweights today. i mean, arnold weighed a reported 240-250lbs at his biggest at 6'2" height, which isn't small by any means. his quads and calves were the size of some pros today, not even mentioning his upper body. so if he's still around and was reportedly popping dbols like candy, among other drugs, how does this make it any more dangerous than pros who are on similar stacks and similar sizes to the yesteryear pros?

You are losing your own argument. Yes, the guys of yesterday were on drugs and yes they were HUGE, but todays guys are loading on ridiculous amounts of drugs, many of which are far more dangerous. The whole point is that us mere mortals who bodybuild as a lifestyle, not to compete should aim to look like the Steve Reeves of this world.

we dont know exactly how much these guys are using, nor do we know how much the guys from yesteryear used, so there isn't a whole lot to be argued about.
there was alot of big guys in the late 60's and 70's who did train hard, yes, but ur suggesting that their training was superior to the guys of today, so much so that their drug usage was considerably less? if anything, there's more training knowledge today than there was back then.

No I'm not.
The drugs the guys are using today were not available then.

well, im pretty sure dianabol, deca and test as the main musclebuildes, were. igf-1, slin and gh obviously not, but i have yet to see studies that say the latter 3 types of drugs are worse for you than the first 3 that i mentioned.

ANYbody with ANY knowledge of bodybuilding in the 21st century knows I'm right.
I am finishing by re-stating that Bodybuilding has COMPLETELY lost it's way. We should be seeking the Human Ideal, that's plenty of Muscle for us and looks super impressive in and out of clothes - http://www.musclememory.com/images/vintage/ReevesSteve_6-Spartan.jpg

well, without studies, im not gonna believe either way.
and ur thoughts on what 'we' should do are flawed in so many ways.

well, without studies, im not gonna believe either way. You are very new to this game arn't you??!!!
and ur thoughts on what 'we' should do are flawed in so many ways. Its an opinion backed up by 99% of REAL Bodybuilders and probably all of the old timers YOU mentioned mate. Nuff said.
