Title: If they were alive today?
Post by: 240 is Back on April 10, 2008, 04:15:52 PM
What would Mike Mentzer be like?  Would he and his brother Ray be bitter icons on the message boards?

Dan Duchaine... would have have started his own forum which would be wholly owning every other board out there?

Andreas Munzer... just how ripped/dry would he have taken it if his body hadn't failed?  Some vein grid appearance?

And what about that 400-pound guy... Trevor Smith?  He dwarfed everyone.  Imagine if he'd taken 5 years to lean out and met 2001 with a 330 pound physique?

You know the thing that's interesting about all the people you mentioned is that I have the impression that we saw all they were gonna do with themselves.  There wasn't much else for them to do if you ask me.  "They were out of shit."  That's usually when it's time to go anyway.

you make a great point here.  Did all of these guys peak?  Would munzer be unmentioned if he'd done 7 more years of competing and never match that competition level again?

I think Mike would've been o.k. . He seemed to be coming out of his drug haze. I would bet he would've been a bitter old man though, still gripping about Heavy Duty, Arnold, and Rynd.

Someone would of set him up with a magazine column and he would lived out his days like a "one set to failure" preaching version of Vince Gironda probably.

I think he would've did o.k., but the "guru" scene is so congested now, some of his luster would've probably wore off. He also seemed more interested in the endurance scene and his bicycle business later on in life. Too many years of baby sitting bodybuilders, maybe:).

Shrug.

A 21st century Vic Richards/Chuck Aherns?

Mentzer would probably be flinging doo doo cupcakes at commuters somewhere along the 405. And maybe attacking invisible governors, like this guy:
