...a full thickness tear, with retraction.
I am having my 4th surgery...this is the worst injury though.
I'd like to know of anyone who has returned to full, hard bb training after this.
My surgeon's prognosis is less than glowing...

Pretty shitty.
When did it happen?
Did you strengthen your cuffs properly?
Get well.

Thanks friend.
Fell on ice in December.
Have had one sx on the right wrist, just had trhe cuff done....need another on wrist in 6 weeks to remove distal radius.
Can't pratice right now. Strengthened it, but docs said never do anything overhead again dt impingement.
Just looking for some who may have successfully bucked that trend....

Tore mine a couple of years ago. Full recovery after about a yr to a yr and a half. When you first get to lift again benching a bar will be all but impossible but if you keep at it, everything comes back.

Sheee-it...really?
I am impetuous in that one to 1.5 years seems too long...but that is what I have been hearing...so I will invest the time and take it slowly. Thanks

I heard it can be spread to others, you should have yourself 'put down' for the good of humanity.

I know I'm due. Moosejay, pm me, I do a lot of rehab on rotators, I did the post rehab training for John Rocker after his surgery.

BTW, after surgery and recovery.....nothing straight bar, ever and limit or get rid of any overhead movements if possible.

I had right shoulder surgery in 1995, which took 6 months to fully recover (done while bench pressing). Had the left done in 2006, which took 4 months (not sure what actually caused this one) and just had the right done again in Jan (incline DD presses. Came down and bam). It has been three months and it is still as painful as the day after surgery.
Good luck..

Powerlifting living legend George Halbert suffered a very bad shoulder injury several years ago and has rehabbed himself to the point he is currently making a comeback.
He swears by the following exercise for prehab/rehab shoulder work:
George performs this movement twice weekly utilizing a heavy and a light day. On the light day he performs reps in the 11-20 range using a bit of momentum to get the dumbbells as high as possible at the end of the range of motion (ROM). Heavy days consist of 5-10 reps with a more limited ROM. He prefers to perform the exercise on his back training days, but says that doing them on other training days is acceptable.

I hurt my rotator cuff in the army, fell out of a German APC, but at that time being very young and stupid I never went to a doctor
and It never healed properly.
Years later
As soon as I hit some decent weight with should press and must have maxed out - massive pain and couldn't lift for 2 weeks, I just did the clever thing and left it alone did not train shoulders and worked my way back up.
Now for a strange reasons my shoulder are the part of my body (not the biggest) but the part that has enjoyed the biggest grow what I can lift.
Do the right thing and rest your shoulder, there is no thing like work through it it's stupid, if you are injured you need to heal./

Sorry to hear that buddy.
I had Rotator Cuff surgery done about 11 years ago. Unfortunately, the shoulder is nowhere what it once was.....to this day, pain is still there. pressing is a bitch, so I can't press much. :-\
Hope it works out for you......

I do a variation on this - I just do two sets of 20 arm circles. Seems to to be a good palliative. And I don't go heavy on barbells, just dbs. I think that latter point is key.

yeah...left shoulder had done twice...only partial and got back to full strength...right side is second time full tear retraction both times...so I will do my level best but am not hopeful of total restoration...

I had mine repaired in 2004. It took me about a year to get back to real training. I had a problem with scar tissue post surgery. After I tore through that and I mean tore through it i haven't had a problem with it since. Fortunately my shoulders are my best bodypart so I don't have to drive them into the ground to make them grow. Good luck to you!!

i think squad has had it many times....
between having to carry his fat ass arms and chunky fingers around all day,
he also has to lift his girls many fat rolls to access her rotten twat.
This, combined with many burger lifts to the mouth, has cause him great pain.
Obsess much little man?

had mine done in Feb of this year. the first souple of physical therapy sessions i swear my arm felt like it was being torn off. now i'm finally starting to strength train again. 20 lb dumbells feel like 80lbs. benching sux also. but the strength is coming back slowly.

you might get flamed / guffawed at in a 'hardcore' gym - but i'm guessing im stating the obvious here when i say those rehab elastic bands are actually really good for building the strength back with the sustained resistance
-
well...I don't care how 'hardcore' someone is -if you have a full thickness tear with retraction...you will be rehabbing with bands...simple as that :)
-
yeah like i said, you already knew that :P

Thanks, Pandaemonium. Just had it 4 days ago, and, I must say hurts more than any sx I have ever had. At least the healing can begin...I hope to be back as good as ever...it can take up to a year of my life, though!
