Title: Talk about some bad luck
Post by: UpTheDosage on April 19, 2008, 04:42:54 AM
My little brother's friend killed himself on Monday. 18 years old. On Wednesday his Uncle got killed in a motorcycle accident. So his dad lost his only son and brother within 2 days. I can't even begin to imagine how he feels. Anyone else have any gut wrenching stories like this?

Damn, that is sad.  I lost 3 grandparents in one year, but that's nothing close to what that guy is going thru right now.

Exactly... all the kid has done is make everyone close to him miserable and his parents feel like it's their fault.

Friend of my wife had her grandmother die, then on the way to the funeral she got a call that her mother died that morning.

Fuck the parents.  It's his life and he can end it if he chooses.  They brought him into the world without his consent because they wanted a cute little baby to take care of.

Sadly, many seriously depressed people don't take this seriously.

Everyone has to have a reason to keep going, especially in difficult times.  Victor Frankl author of "Man's Search for Meaning" was a survivor of the Nazi death camp, and he stated that "a man that has a why, can deal with any how."

For many it was the hope of seeing their families again, for him it was the goal of writing his book and continuing his work in psychology.

The default for most humans is to have a wife and children, this gives them purpose and meaning for their life, ensuring their survival and replication.

Now someone like me that doesn't have a wife, and had a vasectomy at age 25 requires something more than pumping a load into a female and creating children to keep me going.

Yeah i dont see how its selfish. like real depression is pretty fucked up shit. They're so depressed its really almost impossible to think of what other consequences there could be. They're practically suffering every hour of every day. Im not sayin suicide is right, or that they'll go to heaven, but saying its selfish?

I bet you were pretty depressed about that spider bite.  How it basically took everything away from you.  Did you wait a long time before getting that checked out cuz I heard on the radio people were calling in that were bit by a Brown Recluse and many of them only have a red blotch on the skin and no damage.  Most of the people were asleep when they got bit and woke up with tingling, burning, swelling and redness in a wide area.  I thought of you of course.. ;D

Man....... that's the most selfish thing any child could do.

Don't always judge people when they kill them self, I have been in moment in my life where I know for a fact that If
I wouldn't have been stronger (mentally) I would have easily decided to kill myself.
There are certain pains you think they never go away, and in today times were in general most people feel lonely and crave
attention and somebody they can lean on, if you loose the only partner you deem to be the one sharing your soul and this
partner fucks you over or leaves you killing yourself to stop the pain becomes easy.

How do you know. What do you think is the reason for getting children? Or should mankind just stop reproducing and wipe themselves of the earth? Is that what you're trying to say? You sound bitter there, chief.

we can't judge anyone who makes that decision to end it all.

I can tell you today I'd never do it.

If I was all alone in the world, 80 years old, and ravaged with painful cancer of the ass and every minute was torture and I was too broke for morphine?

You never know.  It's easy for us in our 20s/30s with hope and health to say we'd never do this or that.  Was the kid nuts for killing himself over a girl?  Of course.  But we can never know what was happening in his head.

No, I never said people should stop reproducing.  However, we need to be honest as to why people have children.  It is the autopilot for self worth, and stimulating the ego.  People act like there is so much meaning to life, well that is easy to identify when you have brought a life into this world that is totally dependent on you.

If I did have my own kid I would have the same manufactured "feeling of importance" that everyone else has.

What would someone like 240 be doing if he did not have his family?  Could he hack it through difficult times?  Knowing that he could disappear tomorrow and it really wouldn't be that big of a deal, except to parents and a few close friends.

The point I'm trying to make is if you take away the wife and kids there has to be a real meaning for your life and most people do NOT have it, that is why they push the button and have the family.

The feeling of importance is second to none, in keeping humans functioning and productive.

I don't think people realize how little it takes to stop someone from killing themselves.  Just calling them up and saying "hey, I was thinking about you and wanted to hang out, lets go to lunch and see a movie."

Now think to yourself if that is really all it takes, and the person that killed themselves did not even have that much going for them.  Can you really blame them for ending it?

i agree.   if you ask for something that takes time and energy, then give it back then that is selfish.

if you didn't ask for it and don't want it then it isn't.

No pity for fools who kill themselves. It's a selfish weak minded act. NO PITY!

When his life ended...his soul came out of his body and he looked around for a minute. Then everything became super dark and an intense disgusting smell permeated everything and it got scorching hot. Then black souls and demons grabbed him and tortured him for a while before throwing him in fire.

 True Story!

Suicide is an escape, it is weak. Seriously life is pain if you can't feel any pain you are dead.

I think it is more selfish for people to have kids than it is for a kid to commit suicide.

I don't think it's selfish to kill yourself. I think that a lot of peoples' opinions here would change if they ever experienced serious depression.

It's unreal. I'm sitting here trying to think of a way to describe it....it's like everything you used to take for granted becomes an effort. Getting up in the morning is hellish, you constantly question what the point in life is, where you are going and how nothing you do can make you feel any better. Death seems the only alternative when nothing else has worked. Having experienced serious depression myself, I can say that suicide does appear entirely logical at the time. Like someone else here said, the poor kid probably wasn't right if a girl was all that it took to push him that step too far. I hope his family recover from it

Ive been there..People attempt or commit suicide to stop the pain...The pain is unbearable...What do you get in help? Medication that takes atleast a month up to a year to give results....

where i live North Belfast in ireland.

It has the highest rate of suicide in europe among young people. In my parish which has maybe 2500 people in the last 10years i think it has had over 20 suicides. majority were under 30years old.

Its so common suicide here in north belfast and i dont know why. recently a mass was held for those who committed suicide and the names read out. it was astounding how many people did it but also how many i knew and also how many i forgot ahd done it.

my friends cousin committed suicide a few years ago hanging from the scaffolding of a church by his jumper. in the following weeks 5 or 6 of his friends did the same. one hung using a rubber hose and due to the weight of him and stretching when he was focund he was on his knees on the altar looking like he was just praying.

aso most of these are found with broken finges scratches on their neck after trying to save themselves.
