Title: McCain advisor with interesting quote this AM
Post by: shootfighter1 on April 20, 2008, 12:02:29 PM
"We must change the government to make it easier to cut gov spending than raise taxes on our citizens".

What a wonderful statement!  She said this was one of the main ideas McCain wants to change in Washington, besides cutting off all earmarked bills.  McCain's plan outlines several significant areas of spending decreases.  I'd be sold if he also plans on decreasing military expendatures outside this country,  I doubt that he or Obama much plan on that...but I hope I'm wrong)

Good to hear.  Quite a contrast from Obama who wants to raise taxes through the roof and increase spending.

He spoke on a new tax system in a speech on economics, anyone have any of the details (not guesses, actual facts that were stated)?
The only responsible way to cut taxes is to also cut spending.  With the amount we are wasting in Iraq, its going to be tough to balance any budget.  We must change the spending habits in Washington.  Both parties have been irresponsible with our $!

Obama's proposal to raise capital gains taxes makes absolutely no sense economically.  Economists have already pointed out that lowering capital gains taxes creates more federal tax revenue by spuring business growth, raising capital gains taxes accomplish the opposite...its not debateable.  Countries like India and China have the lowest capital gains taxes and are flourishing, while Japan, with one of the highest, has seen its economy decline.

Over 100million people own shares in the market or small businesses, its far from just rich people as some would have us believe.  Anyone can invest in businesses or the market.  These people would be affected by raising taxes.  Its hard enough to make small businesses survive already.  Anything that negatively affects small businesses (which create far more jobs than state, federal and local governments) is illogical.

I'd like to know who McCain is getting his economic policy ideas from since he's admitted that economics is not his strength.

not a chance in hell McCain will significantly lower spending

McCain (like all republican presidents)= tax cuts for the wealthy+same or greater spending= increased budget deficit the next president has to deal with

traditionally, yes.

but...

none of these free-spending repubs has been faced with the sick debt and falling dollar like this.

what was the year they raised interest rates to 20+% to fix a similar mess?  I see that coming.

Ah.  The reagan years...early 80s.    But the dollar was still worth about .50cents tho.   Those were the days.
