More intelligent, no--more informed and educated, yes. Many atheists were once followers of religion. They didn't magically become more intelligent once they disavowed supernaturalism.

I voted no. I've been wrong enough through life to learn that what I might think is right now might actually be wrong so I always keep an open mind. My wrongs have given me a defacto respect for everyone's current believe. You have to balance this respect I speak of with a true search for truth and deliver your opinion in a way that hopefully has a positive outcome... It's hard to do and I fail sometimes but I try.

Depends on who is asking the question in the poll...If the guy in your avatar asked me the question i would quickly without thinking, answer no....I voted yes though which suprised me...I was honest with myself though...Some introspection is needed...
If you lived in Alabama, in the bible belt, you might answer yes too because you get so sick of the fundamentalist christian beliefs around here....My inlaws are so religious and when you differ in opinion on religion, they fire down the mountain from upon high....Oh according to my mother inlaw, did you know the bible says races can not mix? Did you know that the earth could not have been around for millions of years because the bible does not say so?
So i answer yes to the poll out of frustration and anger....

I met many Presbyterian Seminary students who said that one of their many requirements was to learn Greek and Hebrew in order to get their PhD. You can't learn Greek and Hebrew with a low IQ.
But Theology/Divinity aside, you still have people like Arthur Peacocke, Russell Stannard, John Polkinghorne and Francis Collins, just to name a few of the good scientists who are sincerely religious.

If it helps you with my answer, I'm from Wyoming and am surrounded by religious wackos and I'm a lefty in the middle of that. And I mean I'm surrounded by religious nuts. The fucking morons tried to cure my mother's cancer by casting the demons out ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) eye roll to infinity :) :-\ :'(
On a side note, this is not the Wyoming I grew up in. If you went door to door here with your religion, you were likely to get your ass shot at when I was a kid and I actually witnessed this happen to two missionaries. There were NO religious programs on the air. Now half the channels are filled with the crap. Our doctor went from normal to religious nutcase stupid ass bitch. They were telling us that if we didn't convert and repent, we could be the cause of my mother's death ::) ::) ::) eye roll to infinity....
but each day I do my best to put my feeling aside and have some level of respect for where they're coming from. As I said before, I'm not always successful but I give it a shot. You kinda have to when some of the nuts are family.

yup, a doctor was casting out demons, I kid you not. :-\ I would have readjusted their thinking but would never do anything that would disappoint my mother and I didn't think she'd like seeing me in prison, actually I know that would torment her soul. It was very confusing and frustrating. On the day they did this, they basically took her from the house, lied to us and said they were going to give her a nutitional iv and we went nuts when she wasn't back after hours. Then we found out what they were doing. It was pretty much over for her after that. I guess at one point she begged to leave and they said it was the demon... That was from one of my "believer" family members that participated...
And just that morning we had a good laugh together.

When someone has a strong opinion on a topic or believes with conviction a certain way...not only regarding religion, they may came across, unintentionally as being smug or unreasonable, perhaps even condescending when you present your view to them. This is easier to see in person.
On a message board though there are always those who like to project themselves, their image, as being more intelligent, more wordly than they actually are. They can research subject matter, formulate what they want to say, then post it. Having an actual conversation with them would be much different. They tend to talk down to people, trying to make them feel stupid when they post.
