The Ultimate Warrior Announces His Return To Pro Wrestling

Staggering news resounded in the NWE Arena during the Madrid show on April 19th. More than 15,000 fans had the chance to see the award presentation which celebrated the career of professional wrestling icon, The Ultimate Warrior; who was in attendance to accept his award. However, controversy erupted during the presentation when NWE Champion Orlando Jordan mocked a young fan of Warrior's at the event. Warrior was quick to come to the defense of this fan which led to a heated conflict between Warrior and Jordan.

On June 25th 2008 in Barcelona, after a 12 year absence from the ring, The Ultimate Warrior will officially make his wrestling comeback in a match against Jordan. The news was confirmed this morning by Warrior's agent, Bernie Gernay in a statement.

"For over 10 years this is what the entire wrestling world has been waiting for, the return of the Warrior. We are excited to bring back the greatest character and energy to ever get into the ring. Ultimate Warrior is an incredible marketing machine and has kept a tremendous value to his name which is why the NWE has stepped up with a substantial deal that worked very well for both sides. There is no disputing that Warrior left a mark on professional wrestling that no other talent did and the reason why still today he is often imitated, but never duplicated."

Over the next few days the NWE will inform fans of the preparations for one of the biggest and most important wrestling events ever to be held in Europe. As the news progresses it is sure to be the headlines of wrestling news and forums throughout the internet and will most certainly have all in the wrestling industry and fans alike in great anticipation to see what the Warrior will deliver on June 25th, and perhaps beyond.

The "entire wrestling world" is hardly waiting for the Ultimate Warrior to come back. Bascially, there are only two promotions that could possibly get him close to being what he once was: TNA and, of course, WWE. And WWE certainly DOES NOT want him back.

BTW, who exactly is imitating him today? You can count on one hand the amount of wrestlers who paint their faces and act the way he did.

Now, NWE will get the pleasure of watching him screw up matches, not show up on time, and alienate himself from the other wrestlers. I give him a year before he get canned.

Can't remember who was the original ultimate warrior. Either of them was entertaining for a few minutes but the act only consisted of running in the ring and shaking ropes.

Maybe all die hard wrestling fans are morons because it's pretty amazing how many times/ways they've tried recycling the character.

AHHHH!!! The rumor that just won't die is back.

This all started back in the early 90s. In 1991, he got fired from the then-WWF, for threating not to show at SummerSlam, unless he got paid (reportedly his $500,000 salary) in advance. Vince McMahon, after staving off a plot by Hulk Hogan to beat Warrior up in the locker room, reluctantly agreed to his request but fired him immediately after the PPV.

The Ultimate Warrior returned at WrestleMania VIII in 1992. However, he'd cut his hair and was about 20-25 lighter than he usually was. That's how the rumor got started.

There is (and has been) only one Ultimate Warrior. And that's the man, born Brian James (Jim) Helwig, who legally changed his name to "Warrior" in 1993, shortly after being fired from the WWF a second time.

Anyone who changes their real name to "Warrior" legally is fucked up. Middle age crisis going on here.

Considering that he did that about 15 years ago, I don't think it's a case of middle-age crisis.

His doing that may have been for professional purposes. As his former boss, Vince McMahon, put it,

"I guess he thought, 'OK, if I change my name legally to Warrior, then Vince doesn't have any hold on me, in terms of the intellectual property because that's who I am'. When, from a business standpoint, if you establish what's known as an intellectual property, then it really doesn't matter if someone changes his name or not. But I think that was his motivation."

That's rather weird to me. That'd be like working at McDonalds, getting fired, and legally changing your name to Quarter Pounder w/Cheese.

Warrior's 49 now and his arms are strangely withered (?). However, the man's awesome, and Fortress will always be a fan.

He was extremely strong and explosive in his heyday. I watched him lift in the late 80s at Gold's in Toronto. Overhead barbell presses with 275 like a JOKE. Reps and multiple sets. And he was huge, as well.

He was an NPC competitor before wrestling. Check out photos and pics from his very early wrestling career. Not as cut but VERY monstrous and powerful.

He looks like prestage Kovacs there.

And for him to be so anti-gay is ironic considering that when he lived in Atlanta, he would frequent Backstreets and rent himself out for muscle worship and escort scenes.

Ironic but not unusual.  All these anti gay attitudes from men in thongs and their admirers reminds me of a little piece of gay history from more than thirty years ago.

On the night of June 22, 1977 just three days before San Francisco’s Gay Pride Parade, 33 year old Robert Hillsborough, and his boyfriend Jerry Taylor were attacked by four knife-wilding young men just outside of Hillsborough’s home in the city’s Mission district.  In the midst of the attack the two victims made a run for it; although severely injured, Taylor managed to escape but two of the attackers, John Cordova and Mike Chavez cornered Hillsborough. Cordova fatally stabbed Robert fifteen times!  The motivation for the attack: bigotry.  It was a simple hate crime.

Cordova was later convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Following his release from prison, John Cordova would go on to have other, less serious, run-ins with the law: burglary, theft, larceny, etc.  Imagine the community’s surprise when he was eventually arrested while dressed as a woman!  That’s right: many years after his hate crime, Cordova came out and lived/lives as a transsexual!  :'(

Good for what... a bodybuilder?  No.  A wrestler?  No.  A man pushing 50 does not belong in the pro wrestling ring.  Like Sampson, Warrior was depowered when his hair was cut.

Because Flair relies on wrestling holds, leverage, technique, and a charsimatic character. He can adapt as the years go by. Warrior, on the other hand, relied on pure brute strength and explosiveness. As he gets smaller and weaker, his lack of in-ring skill becomes more apparent. Plus, he hasn't really change his character, as have guys like Flair and Hogan.

Exactly!  For all his past appeal, Warrior was a one trick pony.  Look at those arms; the trick (no pun intended) is over. Time to move on.  Like Lex Luger, this guy made a pretty penny in his day; he should be lying on a beach somewhere eating bonbons. Or at least have moved on to something outside the squared circle.  I like old muscle dudes as much as the next guy but seeing him in the ring at 49 trying to play the same game from twenty years ago is not pretty.  :-[

Why can't these guys find wives, girlfriends (or boyfriends) that can help them better manage their earnings?  You'd think by now they would all realize that it's a short ride.  ::)

Dayum!!!

Feel like I've been verbally bitch-slapped by a Star Trek nerd for ignoring some essential trivia, LOL!

The guy was pretty limited but entertaining for a really short gag. He just didn't have the charisma of  Hogan, Flair, Stone Cold, etc...

I will admit having been more of a Legion of Doom fan at that time, LOL! They came, kicked ass and left.

In other exciting news, I just took a shit, after eating 12 dozen egg whites with 1 cup of oatmeal.  I also decided to switch back to wearing white socks this week.  The black socks weren't as comfortable.

if Ric flair is still around, why not the Ultimate one.... ;D

From what I understand, Flair's ex-wife took him to the cleaners in a divorce settlement. That's why Flair had to keep wrestling.

Sorry I upset you.  I can see the WWF is still a big part of your life..haha, just sad.  And by the 2nd grade put downs in your post, you're either 15, or have a sub par IQ.
It's cool, you're in the majority bro.

Could that also spell the return of Hulkamania to the WWE?

Think "Warrior vs. Hogan III" would draw any money?

those silly Asians arent shy about throwing out a good slap or two in public

I remember I was with my boy who was half-chinese, and we spent the day in the city (smoking weed etc...I was in high school) and at dinner we made our way to china town to have a huge dinner with his chinese relatives.  Well I couldnt understand shit, but the food was dope and after eating for a little bit his 90+ yr old grandma said something that annoyed her husband and he straight up hit that bitch in the face with a half hammer punch/ half slap!!!!!!

I almost pissed myself----I had to bite the shit out of my inner cheek to keep from screaming in laughter.  Great Day!!!!!!! ;D
