Title: Feds want to require visitors' fingerprints when leaving US
Post by: Hugo Chavez on April 22, 2008, 08:01:59 PM
So what Hugo, it's only fingerprinting.  So what Hugo, it's only full body scans.  So what if we're starting to look exactly like a bad 70's totalitarian flick.  They just keep adding on these things one little item at a time.  It already looks like the security line scene from The Running Man, how long till we do look like that bad 70's flick...  hmmm, with food prices maybe it'll be Soylent Green :D

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration would require commercial airlines and cruise-line operators to collect information such as fingerprints from international travelers and send the information to the Homeland Security Department soon after the travelers leave the country, according to a proposed rule.

The proposal, which will be announced Tuesday, will close a security gap identified after the 9/11 attacks and identify which visitors have overstayed their visas.

It seems a little too much like collecting evidence before a crime to me.

That being said, I'm witholding an opinion until the ACLU chimes in.

fuck!!

Minority Report Commercials

MINORITY REPORT - IRIS IDENTIFICATION
Quote
The scene from Chapter 14 when the 'suspect' (Tom Cruise) is subjected to forced Iris examination by police robots to confirm his 'identity'. Technology now available to so-called 'law' enforcement agencies is bringing closer the day when the police and spooks will attempt to predict criminal and/or terrorist behaviour.

They creep the shit in like this, it becomes the norm and there is always a next thing.  What will it look like in 10 years at this new rate of change. :-\

Lame. When a person leaves the country, it's already too late.

exactly... The point being you look at the first steps and gaff them off as not a big deal and or a pointless move by an inept government.  There will be a next thing and a next thing and the end result will look like a crappy 70's totalitarian flick.
