Whatca think folks????
-
I think they both look good, and both have annexed overall titles, Melvin.
-
11 years can be a long time in Drug years.Drug years are sort of like Dog years you get a whole lot older quick.
-
im not familiar w/ any of them...but i prefer the top photo
-
chick at 15 smokes the old guy.
-
Jeez here is thread Goodrum started that is sure to be a huge backfire. Melvin stick with shoving your tongue is Queer Vissy ass. That is the only thing you can do naturally.
-
Chick should've been on That 70's show.
-
Here is Melvin Goodrum at 30.
-
Why Melvin doesn't take any advice strikes me as odd. He thinks he knows it all because he has a couple of phony titles.
-
Both looked great.
How big was VinceBasile(odd name ;D) at his peak?
-
I think they both look good, and both have annexed overall titles, Melvin.
+1
As usual goodbum backfires on his own self....
could you actually go to the gym and perhaps do some cardio or train or even eat a good diet.
You look terrible boy. :-X :-\
TERRRIBLE ;)
-
Chick at 15 looks impressive. However, he is standing alone, reinforcing the illusion that he is more than what he appears.
Not knocking him, however a reference point is needed to make an acccurate assessment.
Vince, when he won Mr. Canada looks to be no more that 180. I'd say his arms would be around 16''.
-
Those are more than 16 inch arms. Both look real good, epecially for the time. Chick looks AWESOME for 15 and Vince epitomizes the 1970 GOOD amateur phyisque there.
-
But that's the point, these men are standing alone there is no reference.
I remember thinking Jean Claude Van Damme was an absolute beast when he hit the screen. I then saw him in real life and was bitterly disappointed. The guy is a midget, looks like he has borderline dwarfism, serious.
-
Both dominate a 30 year old Melvin Goodrum
-
awsome how vince has the balls to rag on someone else that showed up in a BB show....wow.
-
I haven't ragged on anyone
Chick stated in another thread that his physique as a kid could smoke Basile's best showing. So I put up the two for comparison.
-
Goodrum, I can't get over how shitty you look... you're clearly doing something (probably a lot of things) wrong in your training and nutrition. Have you considered working with somebody who knows what they're doing for your next show? There are a lot of trainers/coaches who post here... I'm sure one of them could help you.
-

Stop encouraging him, damn you!!

There is no way Goodrum ever trains...he has zero muscle.
On top of it he has gyno ::)
-

No, it's possible... he just isn't very good at it. :-\
-
Basile went from have a filled trophy case to filling a dog cage ...
-
I kept only two trophies and gave the rest away. I will give the Mr C trophy to my ex. The best legs trophy is a statue. I didn't even keep the Best Poser trophy which is amusing. Can you imagine if Goodrum won stuff like that? We would never hear the end of it.
My arms were 17 cold and I could pump them to 18. I weighed 190 at the contest. I am heavier than I look. Calves were also over 17 cold. I don't exaggerate or lie about matters of fact. I was a bit bigger in 1975. The photo is about a week or so out from the Mr Australia where I placed last in the tall class out of 7 thanks to Paul Graham and his mate Arnold S. I have a letter from Frank Burwash about the fix.
-
Vince-are you from Canada or Australia??
How did you end up in Australia???
BTW, how old were you when you won the Mr Canada and what year did you wint htat show???
-
Whatca think folks????
after all theses years and you still look like a sandwich bag with shit in it.When will you give up the dream of ever looking like a bb. And to top it all off you try and criticise others. sad just sad.
-
Both guys look great - Chick looks amazing for a 15 year old - you sure he isn't older than that there?
-
No, he is 15 there...
-
Being a natural Vince B. looked better in the 70s than any non-competitor getbigger in 2008. Although there was no ultra ion-exchanged super-filtered whey protein matrix at that time... ???

;)
-
I prefer Vince's physique. Much better structure and shape.
-
But, in fairness, Vince was much older than Chick in that photo...literally man vs boy
-
But, in fairness, Vince was much older than Chick in that photo...literally man vs boy
...and on the juice...thats the point of the comparison
-
I dont understand why somebody so into bodybuilding doesnt do it,please explain Vince, wouldnt you feel more accepted if you actually trained and got a decent physique?
-
In those pics, Vince does look better than Chic. For 15 or whatever Chic looks good though.
-

It looks like Melvin had a thin layer of water on him that prevented him from being completely shredded.
-
Vince B-
What happened? You went from that, to Peter McGough? ??? ??? ???

Man on drugs...vs young boy on his own genetics
Vince is pwned once again
-

More like a thick layer of fat. ;D

Well, it stands to reason that since Vince Basile invented bodybuilding he will always be older than someone else in any bodybuilding photo. How 'bout just being grateful to him for giving us the sport?
-
lol, keep believing that bob didnt do steroids.
-
lol, keep believing that bob didnt do steroids.
Believe what you want, Pyle....I never touched a steroid or a supplement for that matter until i was almost 22. I competed in drug tested natural shows my entire teenage career

I am glad he invented dumbbells, weight plates, & Joe Weider
;D

when i was in highschool there were kids doing steroids at 14 and 15 years old. don't think that a young age means that steroids arent being done. as for chick, i have no idea whether he did at 15 or not. nor do i care.
vince basile looks great in the photos posted. chick looks good in the photos ive seen of him on this board, but there was probably "massive" drug use involved in chick's success. not that there isnt with "any" of the pros, so i guess its a mute point.
i think rusty looked better in the show that chick won though. my younger brother just competed in the mr. wv show and was robbed because the judges were all friends with a couple of the guys competing. my brother weighed around 205-210 lbs on the morning of the show. the guy who "won" ::) weighed 140 lbs and looked like a small kid... its a sad state of affairs these days.
There is/ was a big diffreence between when you went to HS, and when I was in HS...NO ONE was taking steroids in HS in 1983...at least not where I came from. I was aware of them, read about them in the mags...but saw no need to bother as I was already winning shows.
-

Chick's right...I graduated HS in 1982...one kid on my fb team was using...but I went to the best prep school in CT (we actually used to play against Avon Old Farms...which is where Dave Draper went to HS... ;))...and every good athlete was at my school from all over the state, like 30 towns...so it was likely one or two may have used.
But nothing like today. Not even close.
I was in the front row at the 2006 NY pro. Chick deserved the win.
I have judged and promoted showsa for close to 20 years and competed for 25, trained for 30.
Just my expert opinion ;D
-
and this is probably a true statement. i am a good bit younger than you, so i think it has become more accessible and accepted in recent days for kids in highschool, college, etc.
Dude...it is SO rampant...I have had kids (before throwing em out on their ear) coming onto my clinic, laying out vials and syringes, and asking me what I thought.
-
when i was 18 (1984), i had been training for at least 5 years very disciplined. i moved to Calgary from a small town. a trainer at the gym asked if i was a natural, and i replied,"fuck that, i been training my ass off for years". i thought he meant i looked like that without working out!
i was pretty naive, never became a juicepig for several years after that.
-

Bob deserved to win the 2006 New York Pro?
Phil Heath might beg to differ:

Well, with a little pressing thought, you can probably figure I meant the master's.

Competing in drug tested shows does NOT mean you didn't take steroids. That means zilch and you know it. Especially back then. I have asked this before and you ignored it. What steroids do they test for now and how about back then.

They test for zipo right now...
Back then, it was all polygraph testing....I have no reason to lie. I competed throughout my teen years drug free, and again in the 1990 Nationals, which was tested by blood sample.
-
Bob can you post those Blood test results. That would have cost a fortune to test everyone doing Blood tests. At least the IFBB Pros of today never have to worry about being Drug tested.Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Yeah..I just happen to have them here on my desk from 1982
-
You said Nationals in 90 and I am sure you would have them in your desk close at hand just to shut up all the guys and girls that say your all Drugs. Those Blood tests showing how clean you are must make you PROUD.
-

Stop it Goat, Moosejay doesn't understand your kind of humor................... .......yet. ;D

Ever heard of blood doping?

Or maybe you really meant The NY Pro, since he didn't deserve the World's.
-
I prefer Vince's physique. Much better structure and shape.

Whatca think folks????
I think I can stand with Vince when I was 24....
Me at 15 next to Chick at 15...NO...he smokes me AND most 19 yos, as well!
-
heres me at 15. (1979). i know i don't compare to Chick (seriously, i think he has a phenominal physique), but not bad for a small town kid training in his parents basement.
-

for 15 that is damn good...these days, the average teen is often obese! Good job hazbin...

you're right, most teens are obese nowadays. keep in mind these pics are almost 30 years old, i think i am about your age. here is me this august (2007)
-
chick wins
-
Chick was an early developer for sure. Great arms for a teen. When I started my arms were 11 3/4! I was amazed at guys with 14 inch arms.
Hard to tell who had potential when they start. A kid like Larry Scott didn't have much when he started. Shows what can be done with enough motivation.
-

yes...congrats on maintaining superior and ever-improving form for a 25 year span. Only a tiny % of the world's population is so responsible. You look outstanding.
-

I did one with blood testing as a teen...and I had enough $ to take the test...don't recall what it was, but the cost WAS NOT prohibitive.

Nice...was that your first cover? How'd that feel the first time you got one of those?

First cover...freaked me out, as I was in the store looking at the mags with my arm folded..and as suddenly looking myself!
-
You cant argue chick was a BBing prodigy........ Same with that other guy that posted the his pic at 15 ... had a better back at 15 than I do now..... same with Chick....

which back exercises were you doing back then?
-
Betcha he was doing a lot of pull-overs...can tell by the serratus tie-ins...and/or stiff-arm pulls downs.
-

That must've been a crazy feeling.. especially for a 21yo kid ;D
Did it raise the cockyness?
-

Haha...that is a surreal moment...did you want to turn to someone and say...hey..."this is me"??
-

I think the checkout guy figured it out when I bought 5 of them!
-
Betcha he was doing a lot of pull-overs...can tell by the serratus tie-ins...and/or stiff-arm pulls downs.
pullovers, yes. they were usually listed as a chest exercise, but when i did them my lats would be sore the next day, so i changed them to back day.
i also built a t-bar row and lat pulldown in shop class and did tons of those. ironic that back was one of my best bodyparts, but my spine has been messed up since early teens and was the limiting factor in me never becoming a good bodybuilder.

Here is Melvin Goodrum at 30.

It is amazing how guys like this piss poor delusional piece of crap can look at those pictures of himself and see there something else than shamefully excuse of wannabe bodybuilder, who look worse than average fat ass toilet cleaner who hasn't done any workout in his life. What I mean is that if we take any urban ghetto, randomly choose about 10000 "never have any exercise at all"- afro americans and put them on stage in posing suits, 80% of them looks better than Goodrum in his prime. Those 20% who look worse has more than 40% of body fat, and every one of that bunch has at least 50% higher IQ than he has. I wish that some afro activist's take that silly monkey and kick him out from the afro race ;D

Hey, Chick, post that first MD cover at a larger size. Deserves more than a thumbnail.
Funny thing about covers. When Joe was based in Montreal all the Mr Canada winners featured in his magazines. The Brunet brothers who were twins and both won the title come to mind. I missed that era and by 1970 Joe was in Los Angeles. I think I was on the cover of Strength and Health re my visit to Fiji. That was it. After that the closest I got were covers of Arnold and Mike from the 80 Olympia that I took.

i probably have a couple copies of it (don't worry Bob, i'm a fan of your physique but not a wierdo - i own a gym and have had thousands of mags donated to me over the years). i'll dig one out and scan it in the next couple days.

Look at the small waist and tight skin 80s were good years for gear What a difference 25years make IGF1, HGH, INSULINE, TEST IN GRAMS not mgs what a shame. ::)

I'd say you are a very good bb
-

Three other guys that I can think were young Body Building prodigies but their career never seemed to blossom:
Casey Viator
Mike Quinn
Eddie Robinson
These guys started off awesome....& just faded as they got older.
-
Actually, Casey did very well on the Grand Prix circut...winning a couple of them...he'd always go against Dickerson (Don't ask me how Dickerson would beat him...I put Dickerson with Franco as the worst Mr. O's)...and Casey placed high in the Olympia towards his high point

I was just thinking when he was younger....he was dubbed as being the next Arnold....but it never happened.

casey did make a comeback in the late 70's early 80's. here he is backstage in 79' and spotting Mike Mentzer.

yes...i am srprised the yr he won 3 gr prix he only took 15th in O
i remember reading that he trained so hard that by Olympia time at the end of the bb season his system would turn catabolic due to overtraining and he would eat all his muscle.
-
that is interesting
