Title: The Best and Cheapest Buffet
Post by: Michaeloz on April 25, 2008, 03:55:49 PM
So yesterday was cheat meal day so I decided to join some friends at a local all you can eat joint.  Was blown away meats included duck, chicken, quail, beef, lamb, pork, venison, shrimp, crab, muscles, 4 diferent types of fish, squid and camel.  Full salad bar with over 30 dishes, 3 noodle dishes, assorted rice dishes,  15 assorted vegetable dishes, sushi bar, fresh fruit bar 12 different seasonal fruits, and a full desert selection of 10 different dishes.  The chefs bring rods of meat to your table and carve it off on to a plate in front of you.

All this cost was $10 US ( doing the calculations from Chinese 69RMB) ;D

What is the best and cheapest buffet you have been to, and what is your favourite regular haunt?

Buffets rock.

Golden Corral in the USA is a little greasy, but great place.  Piles of everything, lots of picky old people who complain a lot and assure quality.  $7.59 for the whole meal, a few years ago.

Wow thats cheap :o .  I find chinese style of cooking to be a little on the greasey side also.  It doesn't matter what style of food they cook (eg italian thai) it always seems to be cook in the chinese  fashion of every dish must have oil.  I still feel stuffed after last nights meal.  Leg day today to burn off what I ate.

Yes buffets do rock

Anybody in the LA area should know the best brunch buffet in Burbank called "Castaways"; actually the clubhouse of the golf course of the same name, 40$ will buy you from 10AM to 3Pm of non stop omeletes on demand, all breakfast. sushi, crab shit, cheap champagne... & more..

Pretty sure Alex A and Ron know about this one ;D

Is it similar to these Brazilian places around here where waiters walk around with a sword with pieces of meat on it all night?

I like these places.

I don't eat a lot of red meat because of the cost of it here, but I chowed down on it last night.  Probabley why I feel so full and bloated this morning.  I love telling the boys to just keep on carving until our centre plate was overflowing. This place is supposed to be Brazillian but like most things here, the only thing Brazillian about it was it's name

Las Vegas, The Rio Hotel and Casino

All you can eat Seafood buffet, includes everything that a buffet has, but also, all-you-can-eat seafood, which includes lobster tails. They have stations that will also cook you whatever you want, and their dessert section has not only every dessert you can think of, but also has a pastry chef that will make u also whatever u want if they dont have the desset u want,,its like 50 dollars a person or I think a little cheaper now,but really good. As you wait in line, there are tons of shows going on and a bar right next to it with bartenders who do tricks with glasses and serve drinks.

I agree. I can handle a breakfast buffet in Vegas if I am hung over, some pancakes, sausage and coffee if they are fresh. But I can't understand how people can eat food that 10 other people have already put their filthy feces covered hands on. :-X

Is it still only on Fridays? I had it once, it was pretty good for a buffet.

When my friends and I are in Vegas, we make it a priority to hit that buffet.  ;)

On a serious note, if and only if you eat the "good , healthy" stuff, a buffet can be a bargain for an off season bodybuilder. Having said , I have rarely shown any actual selection and /or portion control on too many buffets.
I used to go to this mega Chinese place in Dallas, that was incredible for the $$$$.
I actually ran/plodded with walk breaks around White Rock Lake back in 1994 (aporx 11 miles) for cardio and then drove over to that Dallas buffet and ate back the calories I burned  ;D

The buffet at the Bellagio is great.  They have a lot of fresh stuff made.  The pizzas are unreal.  The pasta bar at the Tropicana is the best in Vegas.  I don't go as often as I used to since I am watching my girlish figure now, but I occasionally will go and have a bunch of chicken or turkey.  My distributors were here from Australia a couple weeks ago and we ate at the Luxor Buffet.  It wasn't that good

I also went to sunday brunch in mandalay bay where i was staying. It was $34 i think but had excellent food and good champagne and oj. I miss vegas. :)

Buffet at Planet Hollywood is also good - especially the breakfast one.

The sunday brunch at the Four Seasons is among the worst I have had.  Food was not fresh and the service horrible.  It took forever to get our drinks and they fucked that up.

I'm not up with the gossip at the moment so forgive me, but are you still obese?

(I don't ask that question like I'm hoping you've basically progressed nowhere)

Yeah when i was in Vegas we ate at the Bellagio and the Luxor. Bellagio was really impressive. It was about 2 years ago or so, but they had a shit load of fresh seafood, huge long crab legs and lobsters and shit. Just a shame i don't really like seafood ;D The desserts were kick arse though..

Luxor was ok. Nothing to rave about though...

Forget those buffets! Have the steak or prime rib special at Ellis Island on Koval Lane behind the Paris Hotel/Casino. You won't find it on the menu, but you just got to point to it on the menu cover. I still think it's one of the better meals for the price in Las Vegas - about $12 and that includes a tall glass of their great home-made beer. Or a Root-Beer if your under age.

But if you still want a buffet, go off the Strip to Henderson to a Sushi Buffet that Onlyme can identify and tell you about.

I've been in every Oriental part of the world and have to admit that the sushi at this place is the best I've ever eaten and each piece looks like a work  of art. And if you are "prejudicial" against sushi, they have loads of other American type foods on that Buffet line.

And at the end, scope out the chocolate waterfall!
