Bodybuilding.
Although I've thought that before, I can never just quit.
I'm thinking on doing cardio only for a while,
but I can't help pickin up my barbells at home and curling
or just droppin down and doin pushups till failure.
I'm sick of it
-
You think Jesus quit on the cross?
You think Dusty Roads quit when the 4 horsemen attacked him?
Quit complaining you fucking homo.

I quit for the past year after doing it for 9 years straight. I can't say I really miss having my life scheduled around eating protein, and it's nice to talk to people and not have the first thing out of there mouth be some stupid comment about working out.
I went from 250 lbs and now only eat once or twice a day with almost zero protein and I'm still holding 190 lbs well over a year later.
I never thought I would be able to stop, but it just kinda happened. Looking back I don't miss it as much as I thought I would.

All y'all lack of willpower sickens me

I think that is him at 250, he is 190 now, that doesn't look like 190. Anyway it is good to take a break from bodybuilding being said.

Its not really will power, just need a change of scenery. The chicks at my gym are not even hot these days.

Sounds like the reason you're doing it for, is wrong.
Do it for the feel of the weight, the pump, the leanness in the mirror, or another challenge of weight/reps with the bar.
Not for the chicks or a fucking plastic trophy.
It's funny how Bodybuilding went from a lifestyle, to what people do for money....the chick aspect of it always went along with it, but things got skewed when that was the sole purpose of the journey.

Looking great - arms and delts especially.

Must require a lot of thought. Good thing you're reaching out for assistance. Richard Feynman often reached out to his colleagues when he needed help on his most difficult thoughts.

What was that like, when your friends and co-workers were used to seeing you huge?
-
I think if you need to take a break from lifting, then do so ... Sometimes 6 months turns into 2 years , or forever.....
BUT..... I all ways found that I missed working out... I enjoy the "me" time in the morning. and my personality is more agressive or easily aggitated if I do not workout regularly.
I do not think I will ever quit working out, until my body quits on me. However I have a more balanced life now, i.e. my days do not revolve around working out and getting big anymore.

I have felt like this at various times and here is my advice ( after many years in/around BB)
1. Take a break from the wts and all bodybuilding stuff for a few days.Go run, hike, and do some active stuff besides lifting in a gym.
2. Watch a variety of other things or sports and relax.
3. If you feel the need to be involved again in bodybuilding, do it on your terms:
compete in a local show, attend a pro event or just workout and enjoy your progress

Yeah, thats what I'm doing. I'm still doing cardio, eating good, actually eating great, just not like a bodybuilder. Eating 5x a day is not easy, especially been doing it for years and I don't compete.
-
had to be done.
-
just quit imo
the training tanning eating every few hours is annoying after a while
plus the high protein intake is bad for your kidneys, and the weights are bad for your joints

My boss, the VP of Product Development will make remarks sometimes in meetings, calling me a fucking pussy for quitting and getting small. He is joking of course, but it gets a bunch of laughs at my expense :)
Other people were slow to notice, my old buddies that I used to bounce with ALWAYS give me a hard time.
What I'm not really looking forward to is all the smart remarks when I do go back and muscle memory allows me to get back all of my gains within several weeks time.
Looking back, all of that training and hard work was rooted in insecurity. I'm not so afraid to be normal now, and it actually helps with business and women, to be normal, dress sharp, and focus on making money.
-

You are packing quite the set of cannons yourself there Mars.

Like Youngblood is saying.. I think you were doing it for all the wrong reasons... Hell I just went from working out at a college gym to working out at a rec centre with a sea of seniors cause my year of school vacation is over and I gotta head back to work. Sure I dig me some fly hunnies son, but that's far in the back of my mind when it's training time.
-
Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!
-
This is a sad topic.

I guess because those of us that took it seriously have some attachment to it on a deep emotional level. Growing up with He-Man, GI-Joe, Rocky Movies, etc.
When I think of bodybuilding in the 90's it makes me want to train and I respected all those physiques. When I think of bodybuilding from 2000 to present day, it makes me think drugs, gay-4-pay, distention, politics, and no real differences between the competitors.
-
i could give a shit about the industry. i like keeping up on pro gossip, contest results, etc for the entertainment value.. and I work out for myself. For my own health, improving my strength, and to feel good. Lifting weights is a good stress reliever, helps me sleep better at night, improves my digestive health, and of course the benefits of the cardiovascular work are nice too. I can't imagine ever not lifting. I can see taking a few weeks at lighter weights or a week off 2-3 times a year to let my body rest and recover, but stopping completely? Never gonna happen unless i get in some industrial accident and lose my limbs.
-
As I've always told the my fellow team members at work when they start to complain.
Shut up or quit.
-
go ahead and quit, we wouldnt want you to hurt your pussy
-
hey bro do what ever makes you happiest.. :)

Translation: I quit after I realized that the iron game left me with nothing but a motivational poster on my wall and the shirts that I had made by sewing together a few dishrags.

Don't quit lifting...Just change your approach to it and life in general...
I suggest
a. Get off all hormones and stay off...If you need HRT, then so be it but if you are under 30...Clean up for good
1. never buy a supplement and/or protein from here on out...99% of the stuff is worthless...You only believe it helps because your mind believes it helps..
2. Only workout 3 days a week in the gym...Full body workouts...No squating, no deads and no benching...Nothing that is going to really test your strength and get you depressed because of what you used to be able to do...Tons of drop sets, supersets, giant sets...
3. Workout with speed...Very little rest times in between sets...
4. Think more about dropping bodyfat then putting on muscle...In fact from here on out, don't put another pound of muscle on your body...Just think about getting a healthy, lean look...3 days in the gym can do that with relative ease...
5. Still eat 4 to 7 meals a day and keep them small but now don't even worry about the protein intake...Don't worry about getting a protein meal in every meal...If you do, you do and if you don't, who the fuck cares
6. Eat a ton of fruit and still drink a ton of water...
7. Don't sweat missing a workout...You are now doing full body workouts. Even if you miss a workout, your still hitting a bodypart within a week...
8. Work the cables and the machines...These are simple and easy...esp/on days you don't feel like being there...
9. Stop talking about hormones with your buddy's who do hormones...When they start talking about the new test that is around and how its the best they have ever done, don't buy into it...Your buddies when on will start to look alot bigger then usual only because you are off...Don't let that mind fuck get the best of you...Bottom line(who gives a fuck what your buddies look like)
10. When Aholes come up to you and say "wow you lost alot of size", again don't read to much into it...Just tell them that you don't work out much anymore and are into swimming..
-
techno your an extreme supporter of psych drugs but not hormonal drugs? whats the difference bro?
EPIC HYPOCRISY

i don't mind hormonal drugs...I just stated to get off them because there would be no need for them anymore if the guy wanted to quit lifting...With that stated, i will say that natural psych/drugs if taking properly can reset the human mind...Sort of like how Ctrl/Alt/delete resets your computer...
And for what its worth, I do believe that hormones can make you batshit crazy...Or at the very least, help you on your way to nutville...Just go to a any bodybuilding event on the planet and take a good look at what is walking around at these events...Its 3am Walmart with muscles/and designer knock off everything

yes i think mushrooms are the "reset" button bro.... weed gotta be the "slow mition" button, ecstacy gotta be the " zoom in" feature..cokes gotta be the fast forward.. 8)
people are crazy BEFORE bodybuilding, not after. 8)

Some believe that DMT is the real reset button...And every night we sleep and dream, we get a taste of it..

Good post.
If I did this shit (torture myself) for chicks, fuck, I'd have quit a long time ago.
Reality is, I enjoy the lifestyle, the discipline it requires, et cetera. The way I see it right now....I'll be bbing for as long as I can help it.
-
-
if you get sick of it then you can allways just take a big break. do like Levrone. train 5-6 months then take the rest of the time off completly.
but it seems like you dont want no part of bb'ing what so ever anyway so i dont know..

You're quite the motivational speaker, "Mars".
-
Take a break... have that lay off, you'll be in the long term better off. People who have trained for long periods ie many years take breaks that can be over 12 months.
-
when i have these moments i say to myself. it can only get worser than it already is. go bust of your ass.
i can't understand this sentence mars.
-
agree short breaks are very usefull sometimes, you will come out stronger than you were, with more motivation and a monster pump.

i can't understand this sentence mars.

Man I said I am quitting like a million times, and each time I do, I last maybe 3 days and start thinking I'm fat and small, so I start training and dieting again because I'm too scared to look just "normal".
Its a vicious cycle!!!!

Anyone?

DID WE QUIT WHEN THE GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR...?
The Japanese actually did that. Inevitable because we embargoed their oil, and necessary that FDR allowed it to happen so that we could crush Hitler while he was tied up fighting USSR and UK. He would have been on our shores in 3 years using the vanquished armies if we hadn't intervened.
-
do what makes u happy mate. its not the be all and end all. i found myself obsessing over this more than i should, though thankfully now im 22 i can appreciate there is more to life and more important things. having said that ill always love weight training.

Quit spending oodles of time worrying about bodybuilding (if that is what you are doing) but never quit lifting weights. This is one of the primary reasons why I would not use steroids. I would never want bodybuilding to be such an effort that I could not stand just lifting weights natural and without worrying too much about diet.

So in other words your one of the typical gym members that goes into the gym, appears to be training hard, yet you never make any noticable physique changes and you don't look like a bodybuilder - yet always make remarks about how you got good results from such and such routine/exercise and asking the bigger guys what supplements they take.

what's wrong with that as long as he is happy?
Maybe he doesn't want to suck cocks for money to afford the GH to be able to step on stage, or bust his ass off in the gym, juice hard yet never step on stage.

Hah, you're wayy off.
I'm a guy who lifts weights, makes slow but solid progress and never takes it so seriously that if I had to go back to just doing that, that it would be hard to be enthusiastic about being very basic (and obviously, not progressing as fast as I could do if I were expending more energy).
I never speak to big guys about supplements, I only use one supplement and that is the occasional creatine. I don't talk about my weightlifting to anybody other than my gym partners. I don't wear tight shirts or give a shit about anything like that. Just trying to lift more weight is a constant novelty to me.
If you want to go all out thats your thing, I'm all about still being enthusiastic about lifting weights when I'm geriatric. You won't find me ever saying I'm sick of it all because I was 300 pounds when I was living a 24/7 bodybuilding lifestyle and now that I'm 180 and clean I have no motivation.
