Title: Training Frequency for over 40
Post by: MassAtAllCosts on April 30, 2008, 02:35:21 PM
What would benefit a 40 year old more, training muscle groups 2x per week each or 1x each. Currently do 1x , but wonder if 2x would prove better results. I know my recuperation isnt what it was when younger, but might give it a shot.

Take it easy gramps  ;). I don't know, I prefer to beat the shit out of a muscle and let it rest for a week.  Some people train small stuff like biceps, calves, abs, delts twice a week. If you do try it i wouldn't do the same workout or movements twice a week.

If you do try it I would say that you would know within a month if it is for you or not, either you are going to be dragging or you can't wait to go to the gym.

Once. Remember, the joint-crushing days of 2x a week are long gone. We have to train harder and smarter! You will continue to improve.

I'm in the same boat as you MassAtAllCosts. I hit the weights like this: 1 on 3 off. (Chest/shoulder/tris) (Quads/Strings/calves)

(Back/traps/Bis/abs) I continue this training all week long...no breaks, unless my body is just to cashed in for that training day.

Also I work in light cardio for about 10-15 mins. for a finish. It works for me. :)

I am 40
I hit the muscle groups once a week, if I feel more agressive once every 5 days.

Gramps lol once these guys reach 40 they'll realize there's not a huge difference if the workouts and nutrition's there, wake up kidz.

Workout frequency use the same rule before/after 40; experiment with each for a while then decide what works for ya. And yes, go to failure if you want to try for something special vs. just status quo.
