We all can see how lifting weights is detrimental to ones being, the injuries, bad joints, arthritis, back problems, and I could go on and on. In the long run it runs down your body. Unless you are a competitor like Ripitupbaby, or Bigbobs, why would you workout? Is it for attention for girls? Narcissistic? What is it, because it can't be for health.

Why did you quit training?
-
I needed a break from the constant workouts, and have been looking back on why I worked out so hard, I question now why I did.
-
lifting is good for bone density
-
How so? I always heard milk was good for bone density, wouldn't lifting put pressure on the bones causing them to be brittle?
-
fights depression
good for self esteem

Good answer, I can see how lifting could help with both of these.

Some of us actually enjoy going to the gym and lifting weights..

I person that worksout has a better chance of being healthier vs a couch potato. Do you disagree?

No I do not disagree, but I would not go as far as couch potato, lets say a person who works out vs a person who goes to work, eats regular and goes home.

To attain the swimmer look. :D

the guy who worksout would be healthier. Add overtraining, drugs, pills and powders, improper techique. Then health would become an issue.

initially i did it for my health, very over weight all through high school and college. About 240 was the last time i stepped on the scale before i dieted cold turkey. Got a gym membership for my birthday and kicked ass from that point. Got down to 167 and was so happy. You cannot put a price on that. Now i do it for the love of it. The challenge and lets not forget the hot pieces of ass in the gym! Met my fiance' there and i know i wouldn't have nailed her if i still fat. lol

I workout because it's fun. I just love it. I was pretty over weight when i first started out, now i actually weigh more (at a much lower bodyfat) than i did when i started. My self confidence has grown as a result and i look and feel better. I'm still young though, so i wanna get into comp bb'ing in the next couple of years. See if im up to the challenge...

lifting weights is good for you. It is constant hardcore heavy and strenous training that is bad for you

it's not bad for you if you do it with good form and not act reckless. You need that challenge to improve your physique
-
Lifting weights is very beneficial to your health if you train sensibly, IE, with good form and an exercise selection that mechanically suits your body's structure, and you stay away from hormones etc.
In some people it may be good for self confidence, which in turn aids mental health.
Narcissism? Maybe, but who cares if you are not hurting anyone.
If i were to upload a picture of myself on this board, I'd instantly own everyone even more than i do already (save for the other big 6 members of course).
