For those who like to pontificate about their physical 'accomplishments'
"Numbers have nothing to do with how you look. Getting hung up on numbers is analogous to not seeing the forest for the trees.
If numbers are useful at all it's only when they are correlated with photos (thus, for those of you who post here without photos and boast...your boasting rings hollow).
You must learn not to rely on numbers when it comes to ascertaining your degree of physical development.
Photos are the most useful measurement of apprearance we have.
There are two types of people in the worls:
-Those who look better than the image they see in the mirror (typically this is what people with low self-esteem experience) and those who look worse than what the mirror reveals to them( those with big egos fall into this category).
The way you see yourself is a product of your belief system.
You see wht you expect to see.

Wrong. I am a firm believer in increased weight and or reps correlate with increased size and muscle appearance/definition. Benchpress 225 for 3 sets of 10 for eternity and never even try to add weight or reps and you will always look the same. Add 100 pounds to the bar for the same reps, and you are bound to be much larger. Increase in strength always equals increase in size. I have yet to meet a man that can bench over 400, squat and deadlift 600-700 that wasn't impressive physiclly in appearance. I have met many who use the same weight/rep scheme every workout, week after week, year after year who look the same all the time. The above quote may be okay for an individual who has lifted for many, many years, but for everyone else, its pure sh$t.
-
Hey moose how is the sex change operation going? haha ;D
-
If numbers mean nothing, why does EVERY single bodybuilder [other then Ronnie]lie about the weights they lift?Apparently, numbers mean a great deal to those who lift weights.

No, it means you are a middle aged loser who has no friends, so you have to make up a list of pretend friends, and the majority of them don't want to be on your sad, pathetic list. You must be weak as well, seeing how numbers "don't matter" to you, only weak guys think like that.
-
No...it means that I don't have a mushroom-cap sized penis like you...hence, all of your anger.
Work on your self esteem beyond the weight room, 'Lame-o"
;)
-
Self -esteem beyond the weight room?Is there anything beyond the weight room.I thought everything else was just killing time between workouts.
-
Yeah...I used to think that as a kid
-
Haha exactly, people who say numbers don't matter are weak as hell.
-
Frank Zane said this.
And he had a stronger squat (by far) than the Mighty Arnold.
What say you to that?... :)
-

No anger here, your just a dumb a$$, something most everyone here has agreed on. Just trying to get you to accept it. But go ahead and make 30 new topics today about whatever pops in your head, thats what keeps us all coming back. :-*

I'm sure his physique was at its pinnacle when he said this as well, not when he was trying to add anymore size. And if he did squat more than Arnold, that would lead me to believe he at least at one time believed in progressively heavier weights, hence the large amount of weight used to squat.

Incredibly,Moosejaw has grown out of that immature mentality of thinking the gym is the most important thing in life, and has decided to dedicate his life to posting on a weight lifting forum 10,000 times a day instead.
-
These heavy weights were mostly performed by Frank in the late 60's early to mid 70's....years before he won any of his Mr. Olympia titles.
There are varyations with everyone.
Every statement ever made applies to at least one, sometimes a few, sometimes many many people.
Thus, every statement is valid.
Dissention arises often due to personal conflicts and preferences.

Do you still train consistently? If so how do you compare to when you were competing?
-
Hmmmm,I didn't realise we needed college degrees from Ivy league schools to post on here.I thought all you needed to do was lift or AT LEAST like lifting.Excuse my poor grammer, but alas,I'm just a stupid ass powerlifter,a sport ,by the way, where numbers mean EVERYTHING!
-

Pretty close...I am 4 years out from my last show at 40...am 44 now...was gonna compete about 2 years ago till I got melanoma...and then its been one health problem after another...but, for the record, I train 'seasonally'...meaning...for each season, training changes.....light in winter; spring I pick it up; Summer at my hardest (intensity); reach my peak every fall....here is last I competed at 40...I am on the right... :)
Peace

Highest lifts ever for Moosejay:
all 1986 numbers, 22 years of age
Bench=305
Deadlift=420, 3 reps (I was using straps)
Squat= Very strong legs...I was able to squat 515 for reps at 15 years of age
I know these don't satisfy 'Big Texas' standards here, but I LOOKED like I could do much more... which was the goal :)

Yes, as you said, you have nothing left to say.
-
PS, the white flag that you constantly wave, Goneaway, suits you. In both name and attitude.
-
if you'd read my statement correctly - that is, on the context it was clearly presented in, you would have read the words 'if you can't understand this' before the aforementioned point about having nothing left to say. the reason i continued to 'talk' is because i feel you understood it, but felt not to provide any facts, for whatever reason.
you call yourself superior to regular members of the board, yet can't understand simple context of a simple sentence? might want to rethink your self-description.
i quit our arguement yesterday and will quit this one right now, as it's turning out the same way. try the gimmick on someone else.

I had indeed interpreted the (your) words "if you can't understand this" in the context that I presumed that you had intended it it be, but chose to dismiss it as another of your ridiculous surmises.
With regard to being "superior to regular members of the board," again to use your own words, that is simple fact and clear in my writings. Furthermore, to address your reference to "regular" members of the board, I also fall into that category. The fact that my gracing of this board has, at the time of writing, not been of a long duration, relatively *speaking,* I post on a fairly regular basis, hence my conclusion that I am a so-called regular member, who happens to be amongst the elite.
