I agree with Bob on that statement.  For 8 years, Ronnie was the best in the world.  Onstage this past weekend, Ronnie didnt look so great as a pro bodybuilder anymore, and thus, he should retire, as he is not going to attain what he did when he was the best. Simple as that.

If Ronnie does want to compete, anything below what he was might tarnish his image.  Especially, if he isnt spot on like he was. Like it or not, comparisons will be made. Still, that is up to Ronnie. If he wants to do it for himself, by all means!

Chic isnt hating on Ronnie, i believe hes hes doing the right thing, Ronnies a legend in the sport, he needs to move on, coming back with an injured tired body will hurt his legacy, im not his biggest fan but seeing him beat by jay a guy who couldnt carry his gym bag when he was in his prime was sad.

Nice words Ron.Like you said if he wants to compete for himself compete after all Bob says not one Pro BB does it for the money.I thought BB competition was for whoever wants to compete we all can't win the same show. Now if Big Ronnie is in trouble with his tears what do you think about Chris C and his Triceps Bob didn't tell him to Retire.

I dont think Ronnie cares much about tarnishing his legacy.

I think he cares more about making money, meeting fans, having fun and still getting attention.

Back in the day, Bbers cared about going out on top, their place in history, etc.

Now?  Too many big dollars to do that. Ronnie can make a half a mil doing what he does... why would he walk away from $500k?  So kids who read BBing books think a little higher of him?  The man has kids to feed.  He should guest pose til he's 50 years old, if the $ is still there and people still come to see him.

Ronnie looked bad at the olympia and at the Pittsburgh, it was really sad.  Its like watching Ali fight Larry Holmes.  Watching a once great champion, past his prime, is hard to watch.

Ron how can you base what Ronnie looks like on stage this past weekend.  He NEVER guest poses in shape.  He is a fat slob for years.  He has come to Hawaii maybe 5 or 6 times for Mits show.  Everytime he looks like shit (at least 4 times that I saw).  Other pics of him posted on here guest posing he looks like shit.  So you can't say that.

NZ, thanks for the reminder...it makes me smile knowing how much progress I have made since that pic 2 years and 30 lbs ago.

I'll get around to making a new pic from the same angle in my computer room with the same shirt for comparisons one of these days.

You hit it right on the money, he is to humble to let his ego think he is tarnishing his image. He simply loves the sport.

It has nothing to do with his condition, but his shape was ruined.  His left leg and left tricep are so small.  I honestly don't think he can ever get the size back to be competitive.

I couldn't disagree with Bob and Ron more. Nothing is going to tarnish Ronnnies image ever. He is an 8 time Mr Olympia and will hold that title long after he is gone.

Ronnie is obviously not on half the sauce that he was using when he was competing and there is certainl no reason to be. Huge props to him for still doing what he loves to do!! Just because he is retired doesn't mean he needs to pump the same amount of drugs he was using when he competed. He is comfortable enough with him self and still looks better than most of the guys on stage at the Pittsbugh to guest pose.

Remember that Ronnie at 50% is still bigger than most of the pros who have yet to retire. I know that it may be a bit tough to see him smaller, but all of us (God willing) will keep shrinking as the years go by.

How many past Olympia winners still had the balls to keep on guest posing after they retired?

but most PRO athletes who have been on top of their sport know when to get out- Jordan,Bird,Magic, Elway, Marino,Walter Peyton, Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Gretzky, Orr, Nickalus,Palmer, Cal Ripken, Nolan Ryan, etc... even ARNOLD, HANEY, DORIAN......they didn't stick around being a shell of themselves, a shell of what we all knew them to be. But then is BB really a sport?????

Ronnie does not have to rely on any type of athletic ability like dunking a ball. All bbers will lose muscle when off the drugs. Ronnie back on will look just like he did in 2006 but there is no reason for that after 8 Olympia wins. Last year Ronnie obviously did not take his training all that serious,  but he still was good enough to beat Jay. Sad thing is that everyone was comparing Ronnie to the Ronnie of old.

anyone who does not think he already tarnished his rep by losing two olympia's when he was well past his prime and looking like this 6 months after placing 4th is off thier freeking rocker ;)

he's already lowered himself below haney, arnold and yates with the losses after a long undefeated stint  as mr "o" , now he looking to push himself into a mike tyson situation.

some of you people dont realize 10 yrs from now  he wont be mentioned as the best ever, maybe his 03 look will still be regarded as the best of all time, but no way in hell these last few yrs did not knock him down alot in a historical sense!

Ronnie has kids to feed, and he's earning more than 99% of America.

Ronnie has done a lot to his body and might not worry too much about what age 90 will be.

Ronnie is milking it, earning every cent he can.  Can't blame him.  So a few internet kids will think less of him after he's long gone... big deal.  Feeding his kids and getting them set for life is way more important to him, I"m sure.

I base it on that Ronnie is having a harder time getting into the physique that got him the Mr. Olympia title. I base it that Ronnie is 43 or so, and like anyone else, he was the best in the world at one time, and now he isnt.

Absolutely, he can do whatever he wants, but people will always remember how great he looked for 10 years, and how off he is now. Such is the casualty when you are the best out there at one time.  And yes, he still can beat a number of other bodybuilders if he competes again.

No - he was the best in the world, and gave it two more times to see what he can accomplish. Kudos for Ronnie for doing that and making it exciting and interesting.

I think were debating two different things here...

1. competing, and whether or not he should continue

2. Making appearances, signing autographs, uestposin, et....which he can and should do if he chooses, and is not dependant on him steping on stage

If anything, his market value as a legend could be HIGHER if he chooses to go out the way he did, on the Olympia stage to 2 standing ovations,etc...

And it could go DOWN with a few less than stellar fiishes off he Olympia stage...

It's not that Ronnie is having a harder time although age does play a factor, he is taking less drugs.

I do not believe that the amount of Drugs has any connection with his ability to hold the same level of condition or severe injuries that he has demonstrate in the past two year in his triceps and Lats. Ronnie is a Legend, but he should not step in stage again if he can not improve or maintain the level and standard of physique he has presented in the past. He should continue to be active in the Industry in different ways, Guest appearances and Guest posing etc

Do you really think promoters will continue to pay the big bucks to have him/others guest pose looking like that. I bet Chick could get on stage today to guest pose and look better than Ronnie/others did this weekend and he hasn't trained for a show in almost two years. Imagine going to a golf clinic knowing Tiger's going to be there and he put on a show but he shows up like John Daly-drunk and smoking, a complete mess. Many people go to the shows for the actual contest but many also go to see the best bb's in the world and expect to see someting that resembles them. Not what most of us look like daily(fat/bloated with some muscularity underneath)

Well you are the Pro and the Expert so we should pay attention to your opinions  ::)

Ronnie was big a ever in 2006 and it was his conditioning that led to him not winning the Olympia for a 9th time. From what I can see Ronnie tore a lat, tore his thigh and has some degree of nerve damage that is effecting his tricep development. Should he retire? Since he has there is no reason to debate that issue. My point is that if Ronnie wants to guest pose for a couple more years then go for it. People are fickle and quit to forget. I guess cause Ronnie has retired he must stay covered up for the rest of his life. Just like Arnold, the poor guy takes his shirt off on the beach and everyones is saying how he doesn't look like he did 30 yeas ago.  ??? Really?  ::)

If he wants to do it for himself, by all means!

well you can say that about cutler and many others too this past few weeks, im shocked that someone like you cannot grasp that its impossible to be in impressive condition all the time add to the fact hes not that young anymore so diet and all that takes way more out of you

If someone in Ronnie's corner is reading and taking it all in, let me give my 2 cents

1. Retire from bodybuilding and never get onstage again(including guest posing without a shirt on)That way you never ever have to get below 7 or 8% bodyfat and don't ever have to take diruetics again...

2. Go ahead and continue to cycle on and off and show up and do autograph sessions etc.....Stay in mostly a bulk stage so you look massive and everyone without a decent eye will think that you can step onstage at anytime and regain your title...(let them think that) and use it to make money and keep supplement contracts...

3.Make sure in your supplement contract that your lawyer stats that you WILL NEVER EVER compete again...EVER...That way your not forced into something that will make you look less impressive then your olympian years

4. Make your own TExas style Beef Jerky geared toward Bodybuilders..(lower the sodium in it) and put the Ronnie Coleman Brand all over it...Build off that but stay away from protein powders and what not(there useless and most of us know it)...Work toward a Ronnie Coleman style hot sauce..You could own the weightlifting niche...Think Newmans on a much smaller scale of course...And you could do all this for small dollars..Jerky and hot sauce won't cost you much for a start up and you already have the brand, so work the hell out of it...

5. Take many public speaking lessons...This will help build your brand...

6. There are a million hot sauces out there, but there will only be one Ronnie Coleman hot sauce..Same with the jerky...Make a mix...Beef/turkey/chicken/jerky all in one package...I've yet to see it but it has Ronnie Coleman written all over it...

8. Here is a brand title(not sure if its taken or not) but how about Olympia Jerky and/or Olympia Hot Sauce...

From what i have heard, Ronnie Coleman has stayed away from serious lifting...So you have the guest posing shots at him at a lower level of muscularity and out of shape because he loves to eat....The guy is a multimillionare so he doesnt need to make anymore money from the sport and he can choose what to do and when to do it....Any competing he does from here on out is probably strictly for the love of the sport...Can not shoot a man down for that....

Should Arnold have competed in the 1980 Olympia? He won but there is a lot of controversy about it...Does it take away his legitimate wins before hand?

From my viewpoint, Bobs opinion is about as good as any of ours in being part of the "peanut gallery"...

No offense Bob....

No...I actually made that picture because I think Bob could probably hold his own if he came into an olympia with that conditioning.

Problem is, there's some weak areas where I think between the 3, he would be #2 or #3 in that line up.

Still, my point is when you're that close to comparison, he should be going for it.

He says he'd lose money to do so...

so be it.

I guess Chick wouldn't deny that Ronnie was one of the best ever. But Chick is realistic and outspoken. Ronnie seems to suffer from the "Hulkster-syndrome" as well, still living in 1999.

No matter how good he was, today he looks like a big bag of horse shit.

Nobody wants to see this mess on stage anymore, so Chick is right, it's time to retire (urgently). :-X

As long as his name's on the marquee he can still get something like the same crowd and money without guest posing.

As far as other older guys still doing it, it's case-by-case depending on how well they hold up. Coleman's fallen apart.

I freaking agree with that statememnt. Vince taylor, at 50, is still onstage kicking it with he young guns, and I'm sure Vince get a paycheck one way or the other. So why wouldn't Ronnie still be having fun? His heart is still on it

This is one of the few times i agree with you.
Ronnie is not exactly adding value to his stock.
The couple of $1k he makes guest posing pale in comparison to the loss in respect for a former great champion looking like a pile of sh*t
just to squeeze a buck out of the fans.

The only problem is that unlike Haney and Yates, Ronnie can't exactly hold seminars.
I can't imagine anyone actually paying to liste to him talk, so they can go home and share "what they learned from ronnie".

ronnie realizes this, so in the end he is doing what is right for him. I guess.

All I can think of is Mike Tyson, and the legacy he left behind...or lack therof.

Certainly not making direct comparisons, as Tyson did time and other assorted sundry things....but it's the idea that he should have been remembered for being one of the greatest heavyweights in history, but all he'll be remembered for is being a nutjob and his wacky antics and his boxing career and being the champ will take second seat...

I would just hate to see a great champ like Ronnie fade away and start placing poorly in shows not at the Olympia level....

No need to compete, nothing to prove...can continue to make appearances, etc and stil be "the champ"...

Part of reason that men like Henry Aaron, Micky Mantle, Joe Damigio (baseball), Joe Louis ( boxing ) and
Lee Haney ( Mr O) are so respected is that they knew when to retire and make appearences instead.
Going out on top is tough to get right. Even Arnold made a bit of a blunder by comming back in 1980 at less then his best and winning a controversial Olympia.

I hope Ronnie is not addicted to attention and that he is wise enough to stop with his bodybuiling carreer. He just has been around long enough and he is not an example into which direction bodybuilding should go. I saw Ronnie on stage at the FIBO in April this year and he again looked like a 'pig': way too fat, pregnant of two twins and with no symmertry anywhere.

Why do you say he can hold no seminars?

I've been to seminars that Ronnie has been a part of, and I would agree he can't hold them.

He comes across as a very nice guy, but definitely not the type to hold them by himself.

Chicks got a good point, as much as i am a ronnie fan, i wish he retired after his last olympia win.  I think he needs to realize the legacy thats at stake!

BBing isnt a real sport.   Legacy dont mean anything in the real world outside the cult following.  If Ronnie can pick up $250K a yr for next 4-5 yrs doing shows, posing and sponsors, then he should do so.  I'd still sponsor him over the mix bag of useless bbers out there at the moment.  Anyway...he loves it and has to pay for his woman now.

Is it possible that his sponsors are behind him, on competing again?

A Ronnie Coleman Texas style hot sauce(many flavors) and beef jerk could be a 25 million dollar company in less then 5 years is branded right...He would already have this whole niche in his pocket and with the right people building his brand, stores like Target or or Walmart could easily be gotten and that 25 million could be projected to 100 million...
