I though i read somewhere that Arnold and Weider agreed he would take away from Arnold's "attention"....
-
Not sure if this is 100% accurate but I heard he was high on PCP and was acting really weird in the gym so they cut his scenes.
-
how about Pumping Iron was 1977 and Dave Draper sued Joe Weider in 1975
Dave settled that suit for $17,500 moments before the jury was to return to award Dave almost $900,000
-
Why sue and then crumble weak BB got what he deserved. That's why they compete for peanuts now and do as they are told.

Earl, are you suggesting Frank may be Jay Cutler's real father?
-
Pretty sure that by 1975 Dave Draper was drifting around the country with a bottle by his side.
He didn't turn things around until the mid 80's.
-

frank was a down to earth normal guy
that's great for real life but isn't entertaining in movies

Supposedly they showed up at his place ready to film but were unable due to his addictions.

What is all this talk about him and substance abuse...I've never heard any of this, care to expound?

Try to see the E! Hollywood story about him, since that's the only media source i know of; heavy substance abuse, heart attack, lost everything, etc. then made a comeback in part thanx to Schwarzenegger's financing of a couple of gyms.

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with Basile snapping pictures of him and really creeping him out...Many people told Draper that Basile had Dave's pictures plastered all over his bedroom(rumor has it)

That is part of it

Actually, they waited until the reults of the 75 contests to see whose footage would be used the most in the film. Zane was out of the money at the O, thus he was not featured substantially

He claims in his book he was living up in the woods and was suffering from acetate poisoning from some sort of shit he was working on and couldn't talk. I'm not going to shit on the dudes honesty but I'd believe him.

The lawsuit is well known, as was the settlement, but where did you hear that the jury had returnd a verdict so large???? ($900K in 1975 would buy the biggest beach mansion in Santa Monica).

At least 10 million to todays standards.

No shit!

Just imagine Draper fucked up on PCP in the gym. That'd be a funny sight. He'd probably shit his pants and slick the feces through his hair I'd imagine.

Draper wasn't competing when Pumping Iron was being made, although he did some guest posing. I don't think he was even training at Gold's with Arnold and the guys back then. Draper's pretty cool though. He's very philosophical and a good writer as well. I spoke to him once when he was at the 78 Olympia. I heard a guy ask him if it was true that he did a lot of dope, acid and booze and he he just looked at the guy and said, "Yep." I've seen some great shots of him still looking shredded when he was in his late 50's and early 60's, but his face looked a bit ravaged.
