Title: Best pros to meet in person
Post by: Howard on May 11, 2008, 08:48:30 PM
Over the years I have been lucky enough to meet a lot of the pros in person , if only for a few minutes.
In my opinion, here are some of the coolest, pros around:

Jay Cutler- He is often busy and has a big crowd around him at expos, but if you get a chance to speak with him , you will impressed. Guy is genuine and down to earth.

Bob Chic - may be the ideal spokesman for our sport. A must to say hey to, at any major BB event.
Bob is funny and upbeat, if you meet him, you can't help but like him...at least a little hehe.

King Kamali- (surprise! :o) In person, with someone not trying to fuk with him LOL , KING is a really decent, polite, personable guy. He guest posed with Jay at the NPC La, a show I judged a few yrs back.
The guy was a lot of fun, very polite and I couldn't help but notice how well he treated his Barbara, his wife.King is very candid and comes off as honest with his own unique ideas on the sport and what makesa great pro, etc.King is very decent in person, around sincere fans.

Lee Haney- He won't engage in much idle chat about bodybuilding, but he is one of the real gentlemen of the sport. One of the best class acts ever to be on an IFBB pro stage. Lee is a reall man's man , very masculine, yet gracious , polite and sincere.

Roc Shabazz- This guy is a real  character with a dynamic personality. He has yet to make his mark on the pro circuit, but is a welcome addition at any shows as guest poser or working a booth.
He knows how to work a crowd and is quite friendly.

Johnnie Jackson is an easy going, laid back guy.

Cutler was eating when I saw him so didn't get a chance to talk to him.

Coleman was in the office when I came in and he left while I was working out, so I didn't get to meet him either.

I didn't mention Titus due to his recent unfortunate change of address. But seriously, Titus was always great to chat with at an expo booth. Kelly Ryan his wife was a cool chic as well.
Ironic how you read about Titus and King on the boards in the mags and then you meet them in person and get a 180 degree impression.

Oh yeah, off season it the extra fat and wt round out Cathy's face and butt, nicely.
A few years back she was working a booth and was turned around bent over getting some stuff to put back on the booth table. I stared right at her ass and she knew it too when she turned back around.
She smiled and kinda shook her head and i admit I was  tad embarressed.
Se had on these skin tight blue spnadex pants and her booty looked incredible.

My list for the COOLEST IFBB Pro's to meet in person in regards to most approachable, talkative, honest and easy going:

 1) Vince Taylor -Loves to laugh and make fun of other bodybuilders. Talks about gear openly.

 2) Mike Morris - Amazingly has the uncanny ability to meet you once and remember your name forever. Talks about gear openly.

 3) Chris Cook - Always likes to debunk myths and rumors. Always told me that IFBB Pros that he knows never ever bother using nutritional supplements we see so heavily advertised. Will talk about gear in a open-ended way.

 4) Phil Heath - Didn't let 'bodybuilding world celebrity status' affect him in any way. LOVES white bitches and also is open about never using supplements. Never spoke to him about gear.

 5) King Kamali - 100% completely not what he is on Getbig. Cocky but very humorous about it. Talks openly about gear but from a general standpoint.

 6) Gunter Schlierkamp - Very much like a boy-scout. I told him to not call me "sir" once. Always smiling and like a politican he'll shake your hand and look you in the eye. Never spoke to him about gear, but I did get him to talk about insulin and how he doesn't like it and see's it as a dangerous disgrace to what bodybuilding should be about.

 7) Mike Mattarazzo - Very open about the disgusting aspects of the BB industry, gear, groupies and everything els in between. A blast to be around. Loves to make fun of typical bodybuilders and even himself as he used to be seen in magazines with the coochie-cutter shorts and baby-oil spread all over him. "Hey, man...I would never be caught dead wearing that shit in the gym but that's what Weider had us wear, bro, he knew guys bought his magazine more than anyone els. "

 8) Lee Priest - 110% open about everything under the sun from shitting on IFBB figure/fitness women's chests to the BB groupie bitches that he flys in to fuck him for the weekend, to pissing in the faces of the threesomes he gets in with 'industry chicks' to the amount of deca he used to inject in 'Ms. Famous IFBB fittness/figure girl' to his gear cycles and drama in the entire industry itself. Lee Priest will make conversation not for the faint of heart. He will say things that will make the devil blush.

 9) Evan Centopani - Very articulate and very classy. Humble and quick to give honest practical information. Will admit what is bullshit and what is not without any reason or without anything to gain. Example: "Dude, I can't even remember the last time I drank a protein shake man...'

 10) Jason 'baby' Arntz - Sent me a bunch of autograph 8x10's to my gym without any compensation. Unlike 90% of pro's who will tell you to send then $15. $10 for the pic and $ for shipping/handling. Talks openly about gear and non-use of supplements.

My list of stick-in-the-mud IFBB Pros. Nothing against them but just very bland and quite boring.

 1) Jay Cutler: Never has a facial expression. Only moves his bottom lip when he speaks which is also in a single monotone. Very unapproachable and you may even get the impression that you're bothering him.

2). Ronnie Coleman: Very monosyllabic. Too shy for large crowds, hence his entire family member running the show at his appearances. Perhaps a phobia of large crowds. Unsure. Not a bad guy but too reclusive. I asked him a straight up question and got a FUCKED up answer.

TBH: "Hey Ronnie...do you really eat 3 packets of grits and 10 egg whites every morning like we've seen in your video? " Expecting a "Yes, usually" answer with a smile I got...

RC:  "Well, eh...basically I eat like you know eh, basically I eat the grits and the egss cuz you know it's good but basically I you know eat my breakfast before I train and then uh basically cuz it's good so I eat it. "

  ::)

 3) Bob Chick: Very suspiscious and uneasy when Ed and I tried speaking to him. The times I seen him in Chicago at Jr Nats he was talkative but always seemed very much like he other things on his mind and you were sort of an obstacle. He did stop in the middle of his dinner with his wife to say a few words to me so I'll give him that. Perhaps it was rude of me to interrupt him but that was before he knew me as "competition" on BNR and another circus clown peanut gallery kid on Getbig.

My list of IFBB Pros who can suck a fart out of my asshole without explanation:

 2) Dexter Jackson.

Coleman's answer seems fine, just because he didn't answer the way you would want doesn't mean anything. No wonder Chick was suspicious considering the person he was dealing with and his screwy interpretations.

  ::)

 1) Lou Ferrigno.
 2) Dexter Jackson.
 3) Ben White.
 4) Lou Ferrigno.

Good summary Block 8)

Hahahahaha. Lou is da king of hate. 8)

My sister got an autographed poster of "the hulk" at the recent Arnold expo. Bog Lou had a girl working with him at the booth and she would write down what you wanted and show it to Lou.
He read it , came over and smiled and autogrpahed the poster, etc.
I think part of the reason some find him aloof is lack of hearing.

Hmmm

I get the impression Blockhead likes gear and hates supplements. He's also into freaky sex.

You got me PEGGED.

 Honorable mention:

Art Atwood: Told me during lunch that he hasn't used any supplements since his amature days and never even tried anything by Optimum Nutrition, which at the time was his sponsor. " Pro Complex? I dunno. I won't drink that shit. "

Craig Titus: Saw him 10 days before the whole fiasco with that girl in the desert and the car fire tidbit while he was in Chicago for some very lame Fitness Expo Wayne DeMilla held. We exchanged numbers. He wanted me to take him out to eat and to 'Crobar' nightclub and/or get him a run on coke or 'X'. "Come on man...aren't you the hook-up around Chi-Town? " Explaining I had no ups on that he wouldn't take no for an answer. My phone started to blow up after 1am with various voice messages. "Ay ehh....it's Craig. Give me a call, man. Let me know if you can get that." Beep. "Uhhh...wats up, this is Craig. Give me a call bro I'm bored out of my mind, man..."  I decided it was best to leave him hanging.

Sarah Dunlap: The only person who strikes fear in my heart. Just the mere utter of her name makes my spine shiver and goosebumps litter my arms. Don't ask. Nevertheless, awesome to train with and even more awesome to party with. Not that I party or anything...

Chuck Sanow: I see him all the time. Very quite. You never know what he's thinking but he's open about just about anything and everything bodybuilding.

Victor Martinez.: It was 2 years ago he was in Chicago for the weekend hanging out with a local MHP guy doing a store opening promotion. I stopped by the store and sat down and dipped while hearing CRAZY stories about fitness whore groupies who suck dick and swallow for 100 clen tabs in NYC and how much growth he knows many IFBB and NPC figure sluts to be using at any given time. It was VICTOR that told me 2 years ago about Kai Green and his underground videos of fucking grapefruit and lunch meat on camera. He also said that Kai is so bizarre he will keep a ziplock bag of RAW chicken in his pocket and pull hunks of it out and eat it 100% raw. I can't be sure but I believe I was first here to dispel the Kai/Grapefruit relationship on here which is now a Getbig mainstay joke.

Abui Feliz: He's from the hellhole of Planet Earth(Indiana) but he comes to all of Chicago's local shows and hangs out. Very funny and very suave. He's a pimpin' mofo! He seems to be able to get any figure whore give him a humjob in his ride in the parking lot. Definitely a hustler. Just competed in the NYC Pro.

I'll think of more...time to call into BNR.

                                                                 -Block!

I totally agree with you on Dexter. Met him at a show in Seattle...he was their with Curly, unseperatable....anyhow, he was cocky, talking shit about other people and seattle...also, a young lady wanted a picture with him...he said, "$20 dollars" she said, well I have $15 dollars...and he said, "well go hit up the ATM, I'll be right here"...thats fucked up man!!!

Ronnie Coleman...might not be the most talkative guy, but by far the coolest....after the show, all the pro's tried to take off through the back door...they didn't want to stick around...Ronnie was the only one that stuck around until every single last person got to shake his hand, take pictures with him and talk to him (FOR FREE). Shit, he's even emailed me a couple times from his black bury phone. He's just way too nice!!!

Jay Cutler, Kris Dim, and Branch Warren. On another note, when it comes to boxing it's Mohammed Ali, he signed a photo for my kid and my kid had it hanging on the wall in his room, Mohammed Ali takes his time with people, gets up and plays around, etc.

My list for the COOLEST IFBB Pro's to meet in person in regards to most approachable, talkative, honest and easy going:

 1) Vince Taylor -Loves to laugh and make fun of other bodybuilders. Talks about gear openly.

Good list...

I think if anyone has met Vince Taylor they would have him at the top of the list too!

I've talked with Vince a few times at various shows, very down to Earth, and he's funny!  He'll crack jokes and has everyone around him laughing.  Oh, and he doesn't charge for his photos either!

Class act, all the way class act  ;)

anyone got a review about their meetings with Kevin Levrone?  ???

Well, Levrone is supposed to be (or was) some kind of musician.

My good friend, Isaiah Williams, is a noted recording artist, has played with Garnd Funk Railrod and has connections in that industry.

'Ike' also like to lift, so he came with us to the Junior Nats when it was held in Hartford and Levrone was guest poser and showed up looking like a butterball.

Anyway, Ike said he'd like to talk to him...see where he was in his music career. Maybe Ike could help him...whatever.

We approached his table and introduced ourselves...Ike started dropping some name of who he knew in that biz and what he had done...Levrone pretty much didn't even speak back to us.

And the beat goes on.....

Rodney St Cloud is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. I worked with him for about a year and day in, day out he had the same friendly, amiable personality. No gear moodines or those highs and lows that some guys get.
Funny as hell too, his stripper stories are legendary and very enlightening. NEVER let your woman go to a male strip show   :o

Kamali:  Cool, personable guy in person.  Met him 3 weeks before the 2001 O.  I told him I hoped he would beat craig titus's ass.  He told me "consider it done'
Cutler:  Laid back guy.  Met him in early 2001.  This is before he made his splash at the O.  He was at a nutrition store and no one was there.  Talked for like 5 minutes.  Meet him again in 2002 and he was mobbed with people.
Dexter: Meet him in 2002 and got a pic (free).  He was cool and chatted for like 5 minutes.  Meet him again years later and he was cool, but not as cool.
Darrem charles:  Goes to my gym. Only talked to him once, but he's a cool guy.
Lee Priest.  Wasn't as cool as i thought he'd be.  Actually looked kinda small.  Cathy was there and she was nice.

Yes. I have heard that if you do not represent some sort of stepping stone to him, then you are less than lint.
