Title: Has The Economy Affected Your Bodybuilding Lifestyle?
Post by: Mark Kerr on May 12, 2008, 09:40:04 AM
With the rising cost of food, protein and gas, have you had to make adjustments to your lifestyle? To eat properly and paying for supplements can easily cost one person $500.00 per month. Two pounds of protein is up $10.00 from last year.

Here in the UK people are apparently spending up to 50% more on groceries than years past.

If you want to really get big, you must earn good money regardless of natural or drug user

This really is quite a serious issue; being able to afford supplements.  :-\

I often wonder what would happen if I no longer had the money to afford supplements. Maybe it is psychological but I need my protein powder.  :-\

Good topic and some great replies.

I'd say as a student in university and upon getting my MBA, I was skinny and weak.  Ate twice maybe three times a day due to lack of funds and time constraints.  Now having an executive role with a mid size software company making a good living I am able to focus a bit more on bodybuilding.  A very expensive hobby/lifestyle when done correctly.  My personal economy is fine as we are a global software company, therefore I can still progress.

This seems to be the case...

I would like to see someone who disagrees with that; I would welcome that. It would give me hope.

I don't think it's even debatable?  I remember being in university (I was very broke) and looking at jacked dudes, wishing so bad that I could look better.  I had to choose though, good grades and waiting tables, or factory job and start working out.

Well, think of it less as a financial investment than one in your future good health. God knows, you could be blowing all that cash on a drug habit...there's not a great rate of return in that.  :-\

Great analogy.  So many peers and colleagues of mine constantly say things to me like, "You are so obsessed with working out and diet" My response " Hey it's better than smoking crack".

In economic terms I view it all as a sunk cost. It's like the electricity bill. It needs to be paid for. At the moment things are still ok but come the end of July I will go from good income to zero income...then set up costs in a new place, etc...

What would be the consequence if all the protein one had access to were canned tuna though? I wonder...

Otherwise I wholly agree with you Dr.

tuna and chicken is still cheap, man up and get off wellfare. Any legal supplement apart from vitamins and amino acids is a total fucking waste of money and your an idiot for buying them.

Even "enhancements" have gone up over the last year, thanks to Bush. I think if inflation continues, it's going to become very difficult to have this type of lifestyle.

I gave over 2000 dollars of protein powder back to my good customers last month, shipped to them on my dollar too. I do this every single month. http://www.intensemuscle.com/30412-discount-codes-april-2008-protein-winnings.html  The record so far is one guy won 56lbs of protein for himself in one month and I know one guy got over 250lbs of protein from us in a years time. Its very easy and alot of these guys are on this list every single month and I pay their monthly protein bill for them. (or waxy maize if they want that instead). I feel its the right thing to do to take care of my good customers and I have no problem paying for their monthly protein intake. You can either email my operations manager Carl@trueprotein.com for the rules or read the rules in the stickies at I.M. http://www.intensemuscle.com/5891-trueprotein-com-will-take-care-your-monthly-protein-powder-intake-read-post-68-a.html

and then contact Carl@trueprotein.com

And if this doesnt interest you at all, no problem there either.....just trying to help out guys who want/need some help. There is a good article in Time this week about why food prices are skyrocketing and its not going to get any better any time soon.

"Welfare"?  I don't think anyone is saying that.  I think the point is, that it's not cheap to bodybuild correctly.  I spend around $150-180 a week on groceries.  Meats include, Chicken, steak, tuna, salmon,etc..

I couldn't afford that when I was going to to school and working part time.

I've had to cut back to 7grams of bullshark testosterone a week now. Been losing some serious size, and some sincere definition.

off the top of my head this is usually what i have daily, this is not completly accurate..

3x chicken breasts
1 Can of tuna
1 Can of salmon
2 Eggs

8 slices of brown bread
2 bananas
100g oats

5 glasses of skimmed milk
1 Gallon+ of water

Multi vitamin
Amino tabs.

I know this is far from ideal, but i enjoy it..
and its not that expensive really.. i don't buy organic.. and I go for the cheaper brands.
