Spike TV on Monday announced that Ultimate Fighting Championship interim heavyweight titleholder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former champion Frank Mir will be the coaches for the eight season of The Ultimate Fighter.
The season, which premiers on Spike TV on Sept. 17, will return to the two-weight class format. It features light heavyweight (205-pound) and lightweight (155-pound) fighters. Production on season eight begins in late May, with the entire cast to be announced in September.
Nogueira and Mir, after serving as coaches, will meet in an as-of-yet unannounced pay-per-view event for the title.
Nogueira earned the interim championship designation by defeating former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia at UFC 81 in February. He finished the fight with a strong comeback effort, choking Sylvia out early in the third round.
At that same event, Mir continued his return to the sport with a first round knee bar submission of former WWE superstar Brock Lesnar. Mir has held the UFC championship in the past, breaking Sylvia’s arm with a submission hold en route to the title. This will be his first title shot since returning from a devastating motorcycle accident that nearly endangered his life, and nearly ended his career

boring coaches :(
-
Unfortunitely, boring show too.
-
last episode really sucked
-
the entire series is hard to watch. although i'll admit i havent watched an entire episode ever. the parts i have seen are all the same; frat house atmosphere, breaking of furniture, alcohol and of course pushing and shoving. never had a desire to watch that stuff.

I believe most brazilians speak through a series of tongue clicks and chest thumping.

Mir seems like a pretty cool guy and was pretty funny at the lesnar post fight press confrence.
Can someone explain to me how he deserves a title shot!?

an incredibly weak division and he's a blast from the past.....I'm guessing
-
I want a HW season of TUF.....
-
why there's not enough talent for a hw division, hell there's hardly enough talent for any division as we've seen in recent shows :(

Yeah but if I have to see season after season of little guys beating each other up, I am sure they can dig deep enough to find 16 big guys that want a chance to throw hands....
-
Mir is a very intelligent guy although his performance has never been the same since the accident.
It will be interesting because both Nog and Mir are hardcore JiuJitsu
Nog's english isnt perfect but its good enough that he doesnt need a translator.
-
Nog v Mir is a fucking awesome match up! Two big/strong BJJ badasses. Nog will probably take it, but I'm rooting for Mir...

In the general population you have less "big" guys. Percentage wise, even less of them are athletic.
The small amount that have both, usually have excellent options in other sports that are well-paid.
That being said, some fresh blood in the HW would be more than welcome.

He cried to Ron daily in pms for over 2 years straight before he finally buckled. He's been demodded three times already but no one gives a shit anymore.

Its really become less of a search for real fight talent and more of a "Flavor of Love" reality cluster fxck
They are finding strong and tough guys but not really any technical guys.
Its suppose to be more entertaining for the general public but I think fans are getting too smart for the "slug fest"
More and more people are understanding the sport and appreciate the skill. Thats why guys like andersen silva, bj penn and george st. peirre are stars and tim silvia and tank abbot are so hated.
Tim Silvia has a very impressive record but his fights are slow and ugly so nobody really likes him

Agreed. Did you see last nights episode. The guy that lost the 2nd fight kept cocking back his right and landing it over and over. How did that other dipshit not see that coming every time...lol.

He was telegraphing his punches worse than Ivan Drago.

i dont know where they find these guys. going on the show with 0-0 records etc rampage shouting the whole fight "keep your hands up" a real boxer would've knocked him out within seconds
