pull without straps and get chalk. yes, for a while it'll be wonky because you aren't used to it, but after a while you'll catch up. grippers are good too, but if you lack the funds, there's plenty of alternatives.
suitcases
farmer's walks
plate pinches
back work with a double overhand grip, etc.

Static holds for time.

that SUCKS, but damn if it doesn't help. dumbbells seem to work best for me, though i did have fun holding 675 a little while ago because i felt like a king. ::)

sorry for how gay this sounds but it did work for me...
I used to have a long drive to work, I'd do static grips on the steering wheel as hard as I could (hold it til' you can't), take a rest then do it again. Gave me something to think about and improved my grip strength

that aint gay do your thing i never ever work out forearms directly though i think grip stength comes from lifting heavy with out gloves or straps

Risking not being in control of the steering wheel on the road for training purposes, classic!
Hardcore, all the way hardcore.

Static holds, suggested by Chaos, by all means. Preferred in a power rack or whatever. Try the 15-20 second holds with a thumbless grip for awhile, keeping the bar away from the body. Can use DB's also. Pinch grip chins from a rafter or overhead 2X4. When you can do that from a 4X4 you should have great gripping power. Reverse BB curl, thumbless grip. Finger curls, off knees while sitting. Can also do these standing with DB's.
Lot's of stuff anyone can do if not having the extra bucks to buy a quality Gripper. Good examples offered by Magoo, though not sure what a double overhand grip is. Maybe I am doing it by another name, who knows? Good Luck.

Double overhand is just that, both hands over the bar, palms facing your body, with or without thumbs around the bar.

Heavy static holds with db's or trap bar, I noticed doing them w/ a barbell put too much stress on my elbows (do NOT do them w/ an over/under grip, especially).
Hang from a pullup bar w/ weight attached, can also do this 1-armed if strong enough.

why would anyone listen to you when you only bench 225 for 5 reps? :D

Im really not sure? I also dropped the bar on my face on my second attempt so.....nevermind.

It's not how much you rep, it's what you put into the rep.

So size really doesnt matter? :D

most of the nerves in the vagin are in the first 5 inches. and the clitoris is the most sensitive part and its on the outside.
i thik it does matter psychologically though.
Is there something? We're talking about grip and bench press here.

Chaos: Got ya....overhand grip as opposed to the over/under grip.
I used the static grip on the steering wheel of my old truck and handles of my dirt bike when going off road from the 8 in the desert. You never want to release the firm to hard grip most of the time. Nothing gay about that. Those 155lb, 20 year old Pro biker's all have exceptional gripping power and stamina. They can pop those Coor's tabs off with no trouble.
One exercise that has helped me and a lot of other guy's are reverse BB curls. Doing both versions in a workout, thumbs under and over the bar. Good Luck.

Only thing I train my grip with is the COC.
I lift with chalk and never ever with straps and have never had any grip problems. I don't think grip should take too much training

do deadlifts without straps (atleast some of the sets)
hold a heavy loaded bar (use 2 systems: one were you try holding it for something like 15-30 seconds, the other is holding a superheavy bar for sets of something like 5 seconds)
these would be my two main tips because your trying to improve your grip FOR deadlifting (so you have to use a strategy that is as similar to deadlifting as possible)
after that you can add 'other stuff' (if you need and can handle it): grippers, pinches etc etc..
finally: if your not a competitive powerlifter, using straps on the heaviest sets shouldnt be a problem. (obviously depends on your goals)
