Title: Are people who train seriously smarter or dumber as a whole, generally speaking?
Post by: danielson on May 20, 2008, 07:31:32 PM
We all know that people who take steroids and look like meatheads are generally at least half retarded, but then again people who train for the healthy benefits are quite smart. So as a whole, are gym goers smarter than the average public or dumber?

I read a recent study that stated the following; people with college educations tend to workout more than those without an education. Educated people also make healthier choices on a more consistent basis.

um.. Steroid users tend to be the most intelligent of all drug users.

And only a very small fraction of steroid users are dumb bodybuilders. Many who train for the 'healthy' look use steroids and are intelligent.

No dude, Meatheads are dumb. They are always grunting and groaning like retards. Also, if they were smart they would realize that that much weight is not good for the ticker.

It's sadening to watch grown men act like idiots in the gym. No one cares what you lift, or how big you are, or how many different wraps you have. The slamming the weights, and grunting is sad to watch!

Well, the dumbasses acting like not eating a meal will kill and them and wearing fanny packs are usually trying to make up for some void in their life.

They're dumb, but they're generally productive people.  ;D

did the study factor in that college educated people probably make more and so probably have more time to work out? where as non college educated people probably have to work harder and earn less, thus less time to work out?

I would say dumber. People with very high IQs, your Bill Gates computer geek types, are almost never athletic and don't work out. However, on the other end of the spectrum, there are some real fvckin' idiots who lift weights.

Bill gates is not smart in the tradational computer geek sence..his people r marketing geniuses..he marketed a SHIT product and sold America on it. Couple that with our no child left behind (mean IQ of the population goes down the fucking toilet) policies, people are comfortable buying a product marketed towards fucktards.

Click here to do this..click there to do that (GUI)..and if you are about to do something bad the product will TELL YA and ask ya about 14 times if you really really wanna do so n so  ::)

i'm a computer geek type so to say...i actually teach this stuff (NOT microsoft though)...and i train regularly..(well recently its been regular)

I would say the fat ones are dumb because they don't understand the basics of nutrition. The ones in shape are generally quite clever because they've mastered their own bodies and understand the best most efficient ways to train to get results.

Fuck, that annoys me so much. There are two guys in my gym well into their 40s who train like this. I have nothing against people taking steroids or their age. But these guys have shit genetics, are full of gear, throw dumbells, shout and walk round like they own the place. I'd be embarrassed to be associated with them. I'm also guessing they don't work, since they train during the day, spend ages just walking around the gym and both look like wasters. That last sentence is an assumption though  :D

On the whole people who train being smarter or not. I'm not sure. Though it has been shown that educated people do take better measures for their health, though in terms of exercise whether that means weight training or cardio I don't know.

Debussey disagrees with you. Eating candy at work = good because of the energy the sugah gives you.

Yeah, but since you're a skinny guy who doesn't look like he trains at all, your "computer geek" status is still safe.

A great motivation speaker once said whenever you go into any endeavour you should be lazy to begin with, if you rush into things and get it wrong you just get discouraged and quit.

Excellent point. That's where focuss come into play as well. Beeing able to give total attention to the task at hand along with pride in whatever given endeavor you choose, is a rare quality. As far as this post is concerned, with all the health benefits, longevity, and improvement in appearence, proper training is intelligent. By one's application of weight training is what determines the intelligence. Utilizing Mega doses of steroids for protracted periods of time would not seem to be an intelligent approach. on the other hand, if one used steroids at some point in their life, and did so in a safe, carefully planned out manner, and suffered no ill effects afterwards, that person could still be considered intelligent.
