Title: What physique do YOU aspire to?
Post by: Boost on May 21, 2008, 10:28:53 AM
Who do you really aspire to look like? For me, i'm aiming for this kind of size. It's
-functional and athletic looking
-dominant but not INTIMIDATING to girls etc
-I believe it is also realistic.
-Does not look clownish in regular clothes

Please post pics of the type of physique you aspire to.

I'm talking purely physiques, don't give a shit,  he could be a murderer and it still doesn't change the fact..... thats a physique to aspire to and at over 6"0 with a wide frame, would be much more visually striking than a branch warren type of a physique (short, dense)

I woul say Bob Paris as posted is the ideal  in my opinion.
So what the guy is openly gay, at least he is honest and proud of who he is.
Which is more than I can say about some of the homophobes around here. ::)

Of course, very impressive, but could you handle the day to day hassle of being that size? It would be like a circus every time you were in public, grocery shopping, going to a club.....it would be a spectacle wherever you went. maybe i would want to look like this for a day.....but in terms of living life...i'm not sure that physique is sustainable.
But hey would be cool as fuck to look like this for 24 hours

Functional and athletic looking?  I think not.

The key word there is “looking.”  What functions do you think a physique like Bob’s could perform?  Pick almost any sport and you will see that real athletes who do real things with their bodies (run, jump, lift, surf, swim, swing, etc.) do not have bodies like that.

The male athletes with the most wide ranging functional muscle are gymnasts and even they do not have (or aim for) the kind of mass that Bob has because it would be counterproductive to engaging in real physical activity.

I think Bill Davey has a more desirable functional physique.  It’s also much more realistic.

I'm sad to report that the bottom guy, Tibbett, passed away this last Christmas. I was recently contacted by his grandson-in-law who was looking for pictures for an upcoming memorial service.

Apparently Tibbett had many pictures of their poses, but lost nearly all of them in a house fire a couple years ago. "

That's all I know unfortunately.  From looking at it I would guess it predates WWII (and definitely steroids).

That picture goes around a lot on bodyweight strength sites because it is such a difficult maneuver.  The position that the top guy is in is called a Victorian.

Birdsong had no where near the symmetry of Paris. Bob Birsong was, however a great bber. He's a Pastor now somewhere in Palm Springs.

Symmetry has nothing to do with the question posed. Especially for non-contest contexts.

It doesn't get any better than that for every day street clothes, not for contests. That's a BB look but chicks dig it because it's lean and athletic.

Definitely, takes some strength to hold this pose from both guys.  The old school guys had functional muscle and used it.  It'd be pretty funny to put the some of the Olympia lineup from the past few years into an American Gladiators type of competition and watch them all suck air.

haha, obviously I set myself up for that.

Well for the old school guys the only way to develop their bodies was to get really fucking strong.  Since the 50s or 60s thought people have been able to get the look without the work (or at least with less of it).

A "Victorian"

Hmmmm....

yes it is currently rated as the most difficult strength movement on the rings.  Only 2 or 3 guys in the world can hold one.  As demonstrated in this picture it is probably a little bit easier than on the rings because one would not have to deal with the instability of the rings and the lever length is shortened a tiny bit by where the bottom guy is gripping his wrists (which is deeper than one can choke up with a fale grip on the rings.  Nevertheless, it is phenominal considering how far ahead of his time this guy was.

there are 2 victorians here, one right at the begining and another at around 29 seconds.  Too bad the camera angle sucks balls.

The funny thing about the whole sucking oxygen deal is that increasing O2 does nothing for your ABILITY to absorb it. Replacing it with a mask is helpful if the atmospheric concentration is low, which, I'd imagine, it was not in the scene depicted with Coleman above.

So, what he is doing here is called NOTHING.

Yeh. I'm from Ireland though. At the moment I'm drug free, competing in a drug free fed, the IDFPA, affiliated to the WDFPF. Best raw lifts: 215kg squat (473lb), 145kg bench (319lb), 280kg Deadlift (616lb). (I know, my bench sucks!  >:( ) I'm only 20. Though, when I hit 26 or so, after 7 years of good natural training I know that depending on how I have progressed with injuries etc I will be sorely tempted to use some chemical enhancement  :) Started training last April.

Arlington is around 604 feet altitude and Las Vegas is just over 2000 feet in altitude.  While it isn't like being high up in the rocky mountains, it is still a climb for a bloated-bellied bodybuilder like Ronnie.  He probably needs the extra oxygen.

You are correct.

In his book, 'Gorilla Suit' he recalls a story where he and a friend were in a Beverly Hills Ice Cream shop and some chicks said he'd be 'cute' if he were 50 pounds lighter.

you can't appeal to everybody, even with bob's face and body

according to posters here that trained with bob, women ALWAYS came on to him

and did you ever see that alan thicke youtube video where the women were drooling over him?  i'd post it if it weren't deleted :-\

Bullshit... Jerome LeBanner, Pudzi, Chabal, Batista... Big and very muscular men with functional physiques... none of them weighs less than 120kgs...

So you aspire to take it up the ass and swallow sperm on a nightly basis?
Who do you really aspire to look like? For me, i'm aiming for this kind of size. It's
-functional and athletic looking
-dominant but not INTIMIDATING to girls etc
-I believe it is also realistic.
-Does not look clownish in regular clothes

Please post pics of the type of physique you aspire to.
