Title: Many of you say bodybuilding
Post by: BODYBUILDER212 on May 29, 2008, 08:31:11 AM
is not a sport however a sport is an activity where a championship can be won, but the point is, is bodybuilding the lowest of the lows when it comes to sports.  Over the memorial day weekend i have seen on t.v som sports that you can question how low is bodybuilding. ex

leaving out your basics
football
baseball
basketball
hockey

I had seen-
spelling bees
bowling
lacross
table tennis
raquetball
volleyball
arm wrestiling
cards
cheerleading
gymnastics
fishing
and some others

all this on espn on comcast sports major networks so i ask is bodybuilding really the lowest of the lows in sports as i am sure 52 pickup of squash will be on t.v much sooner then bodybuilding will ever, but why is it so hard for one of the toughest sports to catch on, i mean 95% of all sports use the gym or read the magazines theses guys are in, i just dont get how watching cards or cheerleading can be on espn and bodybuilding can not get on versus or something like that

Just an opinion as i had watched some very weird sports this past weekend?

In my mind in order to be an "athlete" you need to be in good physical shape.  Gymnasts are in excellent shape.  If they are serious about it so are lacross, raquetball, and vollyball players.  Heck, even serious cheerleaders are in good shape.  Bodybuilders are not.  :-\

simple.  its a numbers game.  bb'ing is VERY SMALL in terms of fans and participants.  the networks put stuff on tv that appeal to the biggest possible audience in order to sell advertising.  bb'ing just doesn't break the htreshhold.  also espn has a hard on for bodybuilding because of the drugs involved in the "sport"

I'm sure that the ifbb has something to do with bbing
not being on tv, or as popular as it could be.

Also, if bodybuilding was classified as a sport, than
drug testing would be required by the panel that
governs pro sports.

Thats why wrestling WWF and WWE had to called
Sports Entertainment.

WWF now the WWE is not classified as a "sport".  It is classified as "Sports Entertainment".

Good point.  I have always wondered why people argue if bodybuilding is a sport or not. What about hunting or ping pong or golf.  Who cares.
