Typical daily meal schedule – pre-competition phase
3,500 calories – 50% - 55% carbs, 30% protein, 15% - 20% fat
7am
Meal 1 500 grams oatmeal, 6 egg whites, 2 yolks, 2 slices whole wheat toast, banana
10am
Meal 2 mid-morning 40-grams of protein (powder mixed with water), 300-grams potato
1pm
Meal 3 200 grams chicken breast, 100 grams rice, 100 grams mixed vegetables
4pm
Meal 4 40 grams of protein, banana
6pm
Meal 5 post-workout 70 grams of carbohydrate powder, 30 grams of protein powder
7pm
Meal 6 200 grams of extra lean beef, 300 grams baked potato, 200 grams broccoli
10pm
Meal 7 40 grams of protein powder, 50 grams oatmeal
500 grams of oatmeal thats over 300 grams of carbs, slow burning carbs at that. I understand this was coming off his sleep fast but how can ones body uptake that many carbs without insulin? Then every 3 hours after that he tops of his tank to keep glycogen stores full. He does all this yet still gets his body to low single digit fat. So my question to all the experts who say Yates didn't use insulin, how can anyone take in over 300 grams of slow burning carbs at one time and utilize them all without insulin?
-
my current diet is 4200 calories and i'm not on insulin.
-
Yes but is that your contest diet?

"protein powder"...... ::)
-
Squadfather would say that his diet is 'bullshit'
-
where did you read or find that this was his pre-contest diet?
-
"protein powder"...... ::)
Are you claiming the Yates diets prime source of protein is in reality gulping down incredible amounts of sperm?
-
You never know - enhanced, lots of lean muscle, training, etc.
-
come on now 70% of the protein in his diet cant be from "protein powder".... oh and "6 eggs" ::)

I don't know... with his pancreas? :D
What are you suggesting? That the carbs go to fat cells instead of muscle without exogenous insulin or what? Or that his body couldn't release enough insulin to "handle" so many carbs? The body has absolutely no trouble "utilizing" this amount of carbs... epecially when he is under maintenance on a diet.

I was just under the impression that over 300 grams of carbs at one time was to much for the body to uptake into the muscles. Seems to me like he would have wanted something that is used a little quicker than oats. Like lets say at that time Dextrose was used allot. I mean it has to take the body awhile to breakdown 500 grams of oatmeal by the time it was digested he would have already been putting more in. Don't get me wrong I think Yates is a genius when it comes to bodybuilding but I'm just trying to understand why all those slow burning carbs. Why not just take something your body could readily use like Dextrose.

Damn he didn't eat that much protein. Was that his off-season diet or contest prep ?
edit: ok I saw it was pre-contest.
was he eating the same ratio off-season ?
-
contest prep
-
According to what I've read the ratio was the same just more of everything. I think he was in the 5 to 6000 cal range.
-
with his incredible muscle mass, I think this diet seems very credible even if he didn't use insulin.
wow so he nearly doubled that in the off-season, that's a huge amount of food but I believe it
-
I call bullshit on that much protein powder tho, I am sure he used a lot of meat and chicken

Squad who?

That's not Yates' diet.
In his 1992 book he outlines his diet in which he eats 5500 calories offseason and 4500 precontest. And that was when he was smaller, so probably bump that to 6000/5000 from 93 on. He ate much more whole food too.

Just type in Yates contest diet on google and that is what you'll find. It was taken from an interview with him and I've seen it posted numerous times as his diet. Yates isn't known for being dishonest so I don't see why he would have lied in the interview.
