Did some giant sets for biceps yesterday, just in my room at college with a backpack full of books. I did a number of variations of curls at various angles and wrist adjustments reallllly focusing on squeezing the bicep and feeling it work. Today my arms have never been as so sore. its almost ridiculous. i can hardly straighten out my arm fully without intense pain.
Question: has anyone actually seen GROWTH from these type of workouts>? the bag i was using prob weighed 15-20lbs, but the unreal DOMS today leads me to believe that my biceps have no choice but to grow.

Growth comes from something you do that you normally do not. Your body must ADAPT. If you train within a certain rep range, and do something you abnormal, you'll experience growth. Or detail/fat loss, or whatever long range effect the stimulus you give the muscle is for. You can't do a single workout and do something else and expect to look like Hulk Hogan overnight after going to bed weighing a buck sixty.

A giant set for bis is pretty pointless as the bis only have two functions, curling and twisting the wrist. I think it was more the high reps you were able to achieve and the intense concentration, causing a huge pump and extreme doms. You should try 10 sets of 10, if you like soreness ;D I agree, it was the change in routine, but, thats not a bad thing. ;)

if you do that alot on a regular basis and it never gets any easier than no..you're not going to see any growth. Giant sets are kinda overkill for most bodyparts but can be ludacris unless done once in a blue moon for smaller muscle groups like biceps that get work in everything. As far as DOMS go..if that's something that happens alot just eat more. If the DOMS get worse..you're over training. Atlarge Nutrition makes a product called ETS... fantastic for keeps DOMS away both to fix the problem and prevent it from happening in the future.

Wicked, do you feel a pump is beneficial to growth? I ask because giant sets can cause a massive pump. Also, you still training in San Marcos. ;)
